Ice Hockey requires players to change from the bench to the ice while play is still active.
Cardinal Rule: Change when our team has puck possession.
Avoiding a "Bad Change" is paramount in reducing mistakes which are often premium scoring chances against your team. Learning when an opponent is making a bad change might also help you capitalize on the opportunity.
Learning all the nuances of this very important skill (for example managing offsides while changing, changing a goalie for a 6th skater, jumping the boards, player exiting the ice in the offensive door and replacement player entering via defensive door) which can take years of playing.
This video attempts to lay some groundwork guidelines to help you get used to changing players on the fly while the play is still going on.
