Here's an annoying sound from my brand new ice maker (IM116000) that came with my brand new Frigidaire refrigerator (FGTR2045QF).

I was dealing with this all summer long! My wife was making ice cubes in plastic trays and dumping them in the ice bucket. I finally got around to fixing it - an easy fix! The reason it is making that noise is because of a mechanical failure caused by the front gears on the mechanism becoming out of sync with the cycle. The mechanism is waiting for the backside of the big gear to trigger a switch, allowing it to go to the next part of the cycle. Here's the fix: Remove the ice pail from under the ice maker. Get a good Philips screw driver and loosen the two screws on the left wall of the freezer. Push the icemaker into the wall while pushing up a bit and the ice maker should come off. Then disconnect the molex connector. Lay a towel down on a table and place the ice maker on top of it. Pop off the plastic square cover on the top. Remove the 3 screws that hold the face plate onto the icemaker (one on left, two on right). Wiggle off the face plate. Next, remove the screw on the big gear on the front of the face plate and wiggle off the big gear. This will allow you to rotate the trigger mechanism that activates the switches behind the face plate. Look into the hole on the trigger mechanism. There is a flat spot in this hole. This should line up within the line of the screw on the immediate right and the screw to the left. Hold the trigger mechanism in this position and place the big gear back in place on the other side. Make sure the trigger mechanism did not move out of alignment. If all looks good, put the screw and washer back on the big gear and tighten down. With the metal wire lever mechanism in the downward position, the adjusted face plate should now align with the comb mechanism pointing horizontally to the left. Place the face plate back on, making sure the wire lever mechanism feeds through the little hole in the upper right. Put the 3 screws back in the face plate. Plug the molex wire connector back in. Align the ice maker with the two screws on the left wall of the freezer and put it back in. Tighten the screws and put the ice cube bin back in. It will take a moment or two before the mechanism clicks back on. Also, you may need to adjust the control that allows water into the cube tray. Do this by turning the screw with the spring on it towards the - (for less water) or + (for more water). My ice maker only makes clicks now when it is dumping ice in the bucket otherwise it is quiet!.

shoehorny Thanks for this! My ice maker makes this noise too, but only while the "ice scooper" is turning. It was leaking though out the front of the door, and I'm now thinking it's cuz that screw was too far on the + side. Hopefully it's fixed now! Thanks again.

I was unscrewing the last of the three screws under the plastic cover (top right screw). All the sudden the mechanism clicked on and started rotating. After it stopped rotating the water filled the ice tray. I stopped there lol. Seems to be working now. Thanks again!

Don’t ever buy a Frigidaire ever again. Very poorly built in Mexico. My landlord bought one new for our house and nothing but problems with the ice maker since it was brand new. In my old house I had a new Kenmore fridge and it never had a problem. Never made any noises either. Was cheaper in price. And lasted a very long time.

Glad you found this useful. I had the icemaker replaced shortly after posting this video. It's a little better, but still annoying. You just get used to it, I guess. They don't make appliances like they used to. Good luck!

With the vignette around the video, I feel like I’m at low health in a video game.

Our Frigidaire side by side is 9 months old. From day one the ice maker has never worked correctly. The noise was so loud we had to turn off the ice maker at night. Currently we are on our third replacement ice maker unit. The last replacement was installed last week. The next morning I checked and the whole back off the freezer was covered with thick ice. I made my call, again, to Lowes Repair line. I talked with a lady who really was not interested in helping but set up an appointment for 3 days out. I told her I wanted a replacement frig. She said as the ice maker was an accessory that Lowes will not do anything but keep sending out repair people. She said when my warranty runs out in 3 months I am on my own. Also I was told at the time of purchase I could buy an extended warranty up until the one year warranty runs out. Someone has mislead me. I have called my local store twice and asked to speak to the Manager. I was put on hold forever and had to hang up. EVERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. So in three days I will have to stay home for the four hour waiting period and waiting for the repairman whom, as with every other repair will come out, not have the correct part and will have to order it and will return when it comes in.

My problem is the 2 gears each have lost a tooth, I can’t find the small gear so I had to replace the ice maker, ($284.00) installed by a repair man.

Next time buy it at Lowes is a 50 dollar part and is super easy to replace. Tons of videos on youtube on how to replace it yourself.

I eventually got this fixed. I contacted Frigidaire customer service. They arranged a service call with local appliance repair provider. The guy had the ice maker on his truck, so he just replaced it. Problem solved. I'm disappointed with this fridge in general...it's very noisy...a lot of popping sounds when the unit kicks on. I had it looked at, but they didn't do anything.

I'm not really interested in making ice but I was very interested in stopping the noise. I took the front cover off and turned the screw on the big front gear and it stopped
