You're so kind. I did end up having to buy another refrigerator. I got an LG and to my surprise, though it is definitely slower making ice, it is much cheaper to operate. The old Frigidaire was $204 a year, this new LG, same maybe a bit larger size is only an incredible $39 a year!! I had a meter on both the old and now new refrigerator, that is how I definitely know the electric cost. Of course that is based on what my kilowatt hour cost is, in my area. The new LG is Model LRSXS2706S /01 and I purchased it a Best Buy.

Bless you for making this video. We changed out the water filter & ever since the ice maker has been making this awful, and very loud, knocking noise. Such an easy fix!
@Biber0315
@Biber0315 3 года назад
Just dealt with the same issue. In my experience it was a conspiracy of two things. The knocking was the sound of the gears slipping because of broken teeth. Adjusting the size of the cubes seem to alleviate their sticking in the tray and being difficult for the paddles to flip them out, thus easing the stress on the gears. Replacing the large gear would have been a simple matter ($6-$16 on average) of removing a screw and swapping out the gear, but the smaller motor gear was $41 and needed special tools to pull it off and press it on, which essentially made it unreplaceable. In the end a whole new unit was only $50 (Lowes). It was really easy to do, and in about 15 minutes I had a new ice maker unit installed.

This worked for me. So far the clicking noise is gone and I'm actually enjoying the smaller size ice cubes! I hope it stays silent. Thanks so much!

Also... Try taking the icemaker out and cleaning the tray. I use vinegar or better still cleaning strength vinegar. remove the ice bucket for better access. Loosen, don't remove two 1/4 inch bolts that hold the icemaker to the side of the fridge. (Unplug the fridge if you are more comfortable) Unplug the electrical connection by squeezing two tabs on the side of the plug. Remove the ice maker from the fridge and then remove the one plastic cover held with a phillips screw. I let the tray soak for 15 minutes or so. You can feel the difference in the smoothness of the mold. We have fairly hard water where we are so it builds up on the mold and makes it harder for the ice maker to harvest the ice. Might have to do this every year or two depending on the water mineral content in your area. Easy no cost fix!

Wow, bless you posting this video. I told my mom the ice maker is haunted, but as long as it makes ice I’ll put up with the noise. Glad to know the cause.

This is great information! Thanks so much for posting. Mine just started clicking. It takes about 10 clicks before the ice drops. My gears look fine. There are no stripped teeth. I'm going to try this adjustment and report back.

I agree with you except the fact that the tray the ice cubes are formed in is made of metal (pot metal actually), not plastic, and there is a heater that kicks on to melt the surface of the cubes so the nylon fingers push the ice cubes out. Seems to be a common problem with this ice maker and a possible design flaw that the heater should kick on sooner to release the ice quicker so the gears don't slip. I just replaced the gear in a friend's ice maker because the slipping eventually wears out the teeth on the gear and won't push out ice at all. Reducing the size of the ice cubes should help some though like you said.

FYI, besides lowering the water level a little (smaller cubes), also tightening the screw holding the new big gear a little extra tight seemed to help. Luckily his smaller motor gear was okay. So far my friends ice maker is making ice and not slipping at all.

I had turned off the water for a while because of the clicking. I turned the water back on and the icemaker made ice for 12 hours then the clicking started plus the ice in the bin were sticking together thus I assume water is leaking. I just put the arm back down and the icemaker is clicking consistently. I just took cover off too and adjusted screw. Please advise, thx Wayne

Update.....perhaps I accidently found a solution? Even though I had some short term results as I shared earlier, as of March 22, 2023 - sadly the loud clicking always came back. Well today, I might have another hopeful result. I had my water freeze up on the exterior door so I thawed the freezer and that allowed the water dispenser to give water again. But in the process I realized I had the freezer and refrigerator coldness settings colder than the factory suggested number 6 for both. Well, I looked up what the healthy freezer temperature should be and set it to the number 5 ( for 0 degrees) and left the refrigerator at 6 for 40 degrees, both the ideal per many website references. Then I noticed the ice maker either made no more loud clicking noises or just a few mild clicks... to refill the ice tray last night and as of 12 noon today. So.... I had the freezer section set to colder than 0 degrees before this; perhaps having the freezer set to lower than the standard 0 degrees causes the loud clicking noise to be more prevalent? Stay tuned... and I'll update again.

Hi, sorry I just want to make sure this works as well. I’ve replaced the gear, I’ve used a screw driver to tighten the screw to make smaller cubes, like in your video. And I just read this comment too. You’re saying you set the freezer to 6, correct? I had mine on 5 so I put it up to 6 and am hoping the problems done. Have you had it happen frequently again?
@david_miller
@david_miller Год назад
@@pinatadonkey5934 I finally settled on the freezer on "H" for high and refrigerator on "6". And still, after so many tries (I haven't replaced any gears) nothing has permanently worked. Let me know if you find a solution and able to share details. I wish you the best!

Whoever designed this should face the firing squad! Piss poor engineering, PERIOD! How did you get the side cover off to get to the screw to make the ice cubes smaller? Clockwise or counterclockwise to make them smaller? Thanks!

Should the gears always be turning or not? I manually turned them and ice dispensed, but they stopped turning shortly thereafter.

As of June 28, 2023 I currently saw short term hope for this noisy annoying ice maker. And sadly, that is the case of the matter today. I would buy another icemaker but I'm afraid it would simply do the same thing. So, until this icebox otherwise 'dies', I'm going to put up with the annoying clicking sounds as the ice can't seem to detach easily from the icemaker. Anyone finds the magic answer... I'd be grateful if you would share!

David this works great for me. Any thoughts on why the fridge no longer dispenses water in the door??
@david_miller
@david_miller Год назад
I do not know. You are doing a good step in online searching for an answer. Hope you find one!
@david_miller
@david_miller Год назад
Yes, it has to likely due to the fact the freezer allows the water line to get too cold. I have no idea how to prevent that. Some people say that is why many new refrigerators are designing the water and ice to be inside or covered by an additional door, to better control that issue. Saying all that.... I'm here to formally announce my Frigidaire refrigerator 'died' this past Monday and tomorrow I get a new LG brand refrigerator. So, my woes of the loud icemaker end... the ice maker 'won'. I was never ever able to repair it. Maybe I could have replaced it.. but wasn't willing to take the chance that spending around $200 would have solved it.
@brianj9262

It's the water filter. It needs replaced. If you use after market ones, be sure the rectangle piece is tight. It tends to slip and you can't get the filter out next time

Harold you are welcome. I have to regress though on my solution because, that ice maker is still pretty much doing the same thing, even though I had some temporary success with items mentioned.

Unfortunately my ice maker which exactly the same seems to dislocate the big gear that turns the dispenser on the back of the ice maker I have tried multiple times to adjust the big wheel gear and when I put everything back together and tighten the main screw I have to loosen it for the gear to turn. I guess I imagine I will have to replace the whole device?

You are probably right. One day I may do the same. If I find one at a bargain price.

Sounds like you may not have a small water line connected to your refrigerator or if it’s there , water may not be running through it. Id check that first. Then be sure there isn’t a “wire arm” inside ice maker in the “ off “ or “full” position.
