What fridge do you use while on the trail?

I’m still rocking the Yeti cooler haha. Hopefully I’ll get a fridge soon but not sure if I can get a high end brand fridges
@ConquestOverland
@ConquestOverland 2 года назад
@@glennferrer6349 Nothing wrong with that! I've used the Yeti coolers extensively in the past! Should the day come to transition, ICECO was kind enough to offer a 12% discount for those interested in purchasing through the channel using code: "ConquestOverland". Not the biggest discount in the world but should help a little! Have fun out there and safe travels! 👍

Just bought one of these bad boys with the Father’s Day sale it was cheaper than the non-pro model. Absolutely loving it so far. Just need to pick up a slider

I love my VL45 (non-Pro). It has been fantastic compared to cheaper fridges and I honestly have zero desire to spend 2-3x as much on one of the more popular brands.

That's awesome to hear the VL45 is working well for you! Something to be said about products that work just as well but don't come with the name brand price tag.

Very good review, answered most of my questions other reviews left out with regard to the mechanical design. Your point concerning the seal is very important, ironically this is something many fridges fail in the design of. The seal is very important when maintaining the cold and the long term usability due to frequent use of the lid.
@growthandunderstanding
@growthandunderstanding 2 года назад
I think that for a top loading unit, the seal is much less important than a front or side loading unit. Obviously, cold air is heavy and so will not have a desire to escape a top seal. Certainly, the concern for insulation is relevant, but I think that any handy individual could probably improve it adequately.

Nice review, hope you can do more reviews on all the gears that you are currently using. Perhaps new IKamper mini 3? Love your introduction on IKamper channel. I am heading out to GreenWater this weekend, hope to see you on the trial.

Thank you! That is certainly the goal of doing more reviews on gear I've used and trust while in the field. As far as the iKamper 3.0 Mini video, stay tuned for Monday at 11AM PST. I'll have a full video covering all the details 😉 👍 Have fun this weekend!

Good review. One option not talked-about was Bluetooth. Have it on my current fridge and find it very useful.

That's awesome to hear! Bluetooth can certainly be a useful feature! I personally have not used it with the prior Dometic but heard great things regarding the convenience.

I’ve been watching units from a year ago. Good track record. One person did drop something of good weight, which left a pretty good ding. Another review revealed a bag that was pretty cheap. I’m not here to troll, just some buyer input. Initial observations from a aesthetic pov, they look more competitive in design, but not liking the charge display so much. Restating, they are supposed to be very efficient tested against top competitors.

Does the fridge have to be plugged in to run? It has a battery meter. Does that mean for a time it can run off the battery without being plugged in? The review you gave doesn’t go Into that point with clarity. Not really sure what the purpose of the battery would be if it can’t run off battery storage. This is our first trip with this fridge and we’re still learning and adapting to a new technology. Thanks.

Fair question! The fridge does require a power source of some kind to run. In short, you can use your vehicle's 12V or AC outlets, a portable power station, or some have hooked up dual battery systems on their vehicle for long extended use. The main concern is ensuring power is supplied after the vehicle is shut off, not all vehicle outlets allow this and only work when it's on and running. This is where a portable power station can come in handy to power the fridge along with other items for camping. As far as the battery meter on the fridge itself, this is used as a sensitive threshold setting for when the fridge should auto shut off should the source of power dip too low. For example, if you hooked up the fridge to run off your vehicles starter battery, the fridge would auto shut off before consuming all of the vehicles battery so you are not left stranded or having the vehicle not start. It's a nice handy feature to have for peace of mind! Hope that help and thanks for watching!

Nice video Michael! I'm on the fence about which brand I want to purchase..Now you and David (OTG) are running with Iceco ... I was leaning towards another brand but now your video has made me question that decision again...lol thanks

Haha, there are certainly a lot of options out there! I know it's biased but the ICECO fridge has done well so far, especially for the price point compared to others on the market. I'm definitely looking forward to putting it to the test this summer once temps start to warm up. Best of luck with the fridge hunt! 😉 👍

Any review on power consumption between the two units? Either one appear to use more/less?
@anywhereoverlander416
@anywhereoverlander416 2 года назад
Just gonna say it again as I have many times in reviews of fridges, I understand price points and quality builds and all that good stuff but I got a costway 54l. off amazon like almost 4 years ago, paid about $400 & have had absolutely not one problem with it and I by no means just glamp. This thing has been on many trails being knocked around (in the fridge slide of course). Just saying.

Two questions. First, how is the top seal? I've read concerns regarding the seal but never saw any testing. Second, from other videos I've seen there is a gap between the wall and floor of the unit, so does water leak into the cabinet?
@ConquestOverland
@ConquestOverland 2 года назад
I've thoroughly used the fridge for the past several months and have noticed no issues on the two concerns. Seals are great and hold temp with no additional strain on the fridge as well as no leaking found. Time will tell in the long run but so far so good out of all the use and abuse banging around on trails in the back of the truck.

Can anyone tell me if the length is 28.1 inches is including the handles? I’m trying to figure out how many inches the bottom half of the cooler is. Not including the handles.

Well the weight is a positive for me, harder for it to walk off. I am picking up the 60L version, for $100 more it seemed like the best buy.

Have you had any condensation issues on the inside toward the lid?

None at all, just inside on the walls themselves but that’s normal. Just keep the lid open and air out after use 😉👍

Beautiful unit but I wish they made a smaller version of the VL pro series. At the size and weight of the VL45 pro, the smallest version, its just too damn big and heavy. The thing weights 50LBS plus the food you put in it. Ridiculous for those of us not entertaining a platoon!
@ConquestOverland
@ConquestOverland 2 года назад
I too would love to see a smaller size of a 35 or so on the VL series, hopefully one day ICECO will take note of that and create a new model!

@@ConquestOverland . Looking back at this after getting the JP30. The JP30 works great but I can see the build is not on par with the VL45. At the same time, I think I wouldn't enjoy hauling around the massive VL45 unit loaded with food and drinks. Recently, Iceco added the JPPro to their lineup which might be a good compromise. The JPPro unit has two back wheels but I'm not sure how much it weights.
