I have owned the Iceco JP40 fridge for 2 years now. I have had it installed in two different vehicles and it has been a mainstay of my camping kit setup for dozens of Overland camping adventures. In this review, I break down what I like, and dislike and if I recommend it. Please watch like and subscribe.

I have both the JP40 and JP50. I'm a truck driver. My sister has a VL45. And I know a lot of truck drivers with Iceco's. Because they are all over RU-vid. The only things I don't like about the JP series is that crisper area. Especially when used as a freezer like my JP50 is. It doesn't stay cold enough to keep things completely frozen. And the insulation Iceco uses isn't as good as the higher ends. I've had my freezer unplug and it warms up fast. Same with my sisters VL45. The Secop/Danfoss compressor is legit though. Dometic quit using it in their CFX 2-3 line. My original CFX has a real deal made in Sweden Danfoss BD35F. It's now 14 years old. And the lady I sold it to uses it today and it runs 24/7 in her travel trailer she lives in, as a freezer. I've had 11 of these 12v fridges over the years. Only one died a premature death. And it wasn't the fridges fault. It was a 53qt Truckfridge TB51 which is just a Indel B. Secop compressor. Same chassis as the JP50. Left it running with the lid open in 108 degree weather after I left the truck. It was dead when I went back to work. I still have 5. The two Iceco's, a Snomaster 85L Expedition series dual zone. And two Engel MT45's. The Engels and Snomaster are high dollar. The Snomaster is performance driven vs everything else is efficiency driven. It cools fast. I've seen it pull 95 watts on cool down. I was running it off my Bluetti EB200p. I had it outside in 100+ degree temps testing it out. Ran 58 hours on a full charge. If these JP series didnt have the crisper area. They would be perfect. Especially for truck drivers. Their stupid simple. And priced descent.

Love your videos! I went from a 65qt OtterBox cooler (with block ice I got 12 days in the summer from Saratoga WY to Natural Bridges UT still had ice left, but I only got 25qt useable space and it weighed 100 lbs!) to an ARB Zero 47qt on a slider in my '13 Tacoma AccessCab 4x4. I power it with 100aH LifePo4 battery and a Victron 75/15 charge controller. Runs 3 days w/out charge, it's perfect for me. You're correct about compressors! They are certainly robust! Also powers awning lights, SiriusXM radio and phone, etc. Pretty condensed system that charges with a 140w set of solar panels! Cheers, Jeff

Nice … I’ve been using an ICECO VL45ProS and it’s been great. Love the way it opens on either side. I think the basket is to also increase airflow by keeping items from direct contact with the sides.

I hadn’t thought about the air flow. Good observation. I personally like using a basket but I know some people take it out for more capacity.

After switching from a cooler to a 12 volt refrigerator we would not go back. We have been boondocking for a week in New Mexico and kept the refrigerator going on sloar and charging the power station while driving around. We usually restock the drinks as we use them instead of putting a lot in the refrigerator but there are only two of us. Great video we love watching your Videos of Utah it is such a Beautiful place!!!👍👍😊

That’s awesome! How much solar did Or take to keep it running?

@@BackroadExploration we carry Two 120 watt folding panels the weather was mostly sunny we were using a EBL 1000 watt power station. I installed a 400 watt inverter in my truck so that when we drive around we can charge it at max rate. The inverter only works with power stations that have an external brick we we have a Bluetti EB3A that would only charge on the solar due to having a built-in power regulator but since it has a 250 watt charge rate the two 120 watt panels will change it fast in good sunny weather. the solar panels I set up in the morning and evening. For the folding solar panel I highly recommend the Rockpals 120 watt in full sun I have seen the output around 113 watts. Have a great day!!!

Great review! You might try putting those cans in sideways front to back instead of upright. I have seen some refrigerators with that small pocket loaded up with drinks that way. I have been beating on a BougeRV 12V 42 Quart Portable Refrigerator for 2 years myself. It is another half the price to the Iceco. I had heard that they used the Danfoss compressor at one time. Not sure if they still do but it is still going strong. Great solution to having to carry ice for sure. Thanks! George.

Good review Jared. Like you, I am getting tired of battling the ice war in a regular cooler, especially on longer outings when the ice all melts and the nearest store is 50 miles and getting to pavement takes 3 hours. The ICECO looks like a pretty good middle of the road solution. For anyone interested, their next size up, the JP50 is the same length and width, just taller.

That’s good insight. Taller would work with me setup but not longer.
