As luck would have it I wasn't home when Escanaba & Lake Superior locomotive 503 passed by heading north, but I did have the car and was willing to travel! Off I go northbound looking for ELS 503 and it wasn't long before I found her! This SD40-2 is painted in BNSF colors which might be the new color scheme of the E&LS, other locos with this serial were BNSF 7303 & BNSF 6964. I caught some cool crossings and some switching too!

Jason that chemical name on that tanker car is the glue binder used in the manufacturing process of OSB "particle". The hopper cars with the dumps on the bottom are full of wood chips, and saw dust from the saw mills. The are pushed up on an elevated track, were the dumps on the bottom are opened up over a giant hopper were the material goes into a vacuum system were it than goes into a mixing vat wear that chemical is added and it is mixed together, and pressed out as sheets of OSB board "recycled plywood".

503 Turbocharger is awesome, reminds me of SLQ 3804 turbocharger. SLQ 3904 is the locomotive we have of the St Lawrence & Atlantic RR.. i can hear 3804 turbocharger on Run.6 to Run 8 most of the time in town because of a they are climbing up grade. SLR speed limits are 25 MPH but some parts they can go 30 MPH.

You can tell when you're at a rural crossing when it's blocked 5t minutes and when it clears nobody's waiting. I swear somebody used a ruler on that first car as the logs are perfectly squared off. Make the most of the sun and warmth

Actually the wood is on a Perfect slant and fitted into metal grooves that hold the wood down on the car.

Sunday morning Jason binge. Been busy lately so catching up. In the words of Geddy Lee, "Ten bucks is ten bucks!" (from Bob and Doug's Take Off song) I find it interesting to watch with closed caption because sometimes I don't hear too good. The auto-generated closed cation always seems to show the wind noise as [music]. That was a pretty good guess about dropping off those empties! You're smarter than you let on. ;) Greg in TN

Jason your doing more to keep these guys safe then we will ever know . They have a dangerous job and like most of use safety is not the top priority when it comes to getting the job done . It all changes when someone is filming . These clips are a useful tool for the railroad and its employees I'm Shure their watching your clips . Keep up the good work .

They may watch them, but being such a small RR they don't have the same rules others might. No one has ever been fired or let go because of something I filmed, a few employees who tip me off would have said that..

I noticed ahte CTRR reporting mark on the empties and looked it up. Here's what is says: Cloquet Terminal Railroad (reporting mark CTRR) is a small Class 3 terminal railroad operating 6 miles (9.7 km) of track in Cloquet, Minnesota. ... The railroad's shop and offices are located on Dunlap Island in the St. Louis River. The railroad owns 160 freight cars.

A tip on winter operations, while shoving on ice/snow covered rail: Tie on a light hand brake, of the leading car, during a shove. That will help "slice through" the ice/snow, at crossings, and diminish the risk of derailing.

I've seen, first hand, the front wheels of it's truck, a 250 ton locomotive roll up onto five inches of solid ice, seconds before it was on the tracks. It rolled up like it was on a ramp, they stopped and reversed it, and it re-railed itself.

I use to work at the Star Mine in Burke, Idaho back in the 70's and early 80's. There was one set of tracks that went to the mine. As I was rounding the curve approaching the mill, I saw an SD40 that had road up on the ice and went almost all the way across the street before stopping. I had just enough room to get around it.

You need to get yourself an orange reflective vest so when you're out on the road like that somewhere you'll be seen better. They don't cost that much and you can get them at equipment rental places.

The wood would be for different uses and types. 1 way is a pulp wood and the other could be a furniture mill or a lumber mill. Type of wood determines where it goes

Have the train engineers ever called police on you? Where I'm at they call police on people recording the train if they see the same person continuing meeting the train up the road. They don't know what you are doing ,why they call police here where I'm at.
