This is Classic Aus rock Mate enjoy the ride, this band are an amazing live band, this is what Australia was like, laid back carefree not screwed over and too expensive too live in.

Saw them live in Palmerston North, (NZ), and they were terrific/ Also saw Hunters and Collectors in that town, too. They came back to our flat. What an evening.
❤❤❤ Even after 40+ years this is still one of my favourite songs of all time! Any Aussie who tells you that this song does not hit them in the heart are liars!!! ❤❤❤
I was coming home from England one time, and this was played over the P.A. system....you immediately knew who the Aussies were...it was insane, everyone started singing and there were a few tears as well...a true magical moment.
I'm so lucky. My husband looks like Yahoo Serious, especially when he was younger. He's 53 now and lost his hair, poor bugger. We both love this movie.
It’s a shame they never got the recognition in the US they deserved. An incredible Aussie band far better than other bands that were really successful in the Unites States. Iva Davies is an incredible musician and still continues to make great music.
I don't know if that is accurate... They hit it huge with Crazy and Electric Blue. Man of Colours album did quite well in the states. They are by far one of my favorite bands of any decade so naturally I think they should have had number 1 hits with Crazy, Electric Blue, Great Southern Land, and especially No Promises. Still they were very successful.
Guy from the Bahamas here. Watched this gem of a film as a kid. Definitely one of the best. This movie had heart and soul. I forgot to add, it also had a wicked soundtrack.
This song should be Australia's national anthem! I hitch hiked around the whole country and down the "Track " in the 80s for 1.5 years. Broome, Tenant Creek, Calgoolie, Coffs Harbour etc. Best country on this planet. Hands down 😊
What ever happened to our awesome bands from the 80s? There were dozens and dozens of em. Build me a time machine and send me back to 85 and leave me there.
Icehouse hat einige schöne Lieder in den wunderbaren 80er Jahren rausgebracht, aber dieser Song ist durch seinen fantastischen Sound bis heute einer meiner absoluten Lieblingshits. Schöne Musik aus Australien. Great Stuff 🌈🎸👍
Got the chance to work as support for this awesome band....blew me away...such awesome guys...aussie legends..pure aussie magic!!!! Should be our national anthem!!!!!
I recently watched this film and its a tone of fun, and Ive been listening to this song on loop every day, its so damn good, Australia back in the day produced some of the best bands
@@Mmmm2217,,,, ,, Divinyls, Boom Crash Opera, Machinations, the Angels (I met my wife at an Angels concert), the Church, Hoodoo Gurus, Little Heroes, Spy vs Spy (probably the loudest band I've ever see live), Regurgitator (I saw Regurgitator live in Vientiane Laos in 2008 and have the pics to prove it), Sunnyboys. I could go on and on.
I gotta say as a Canadian that this was a bloody good song! Thank you Aus for all the great music over the years (thinking of the great Hoodoo Gurus as I write this)
Standing at the limit of an endless ocean Stranded like a runaway, lost at sea City on a rainy day down in the harbor Watching as the grey clouds shadow the bay Looking everywhere 'cause I had to find you This is not the way that I remember it here Anyone will tell you its a prisoner island Hidden in the summer for a million years Great Southern Land, burned you black So you look into the land and it will tell you a story Story 'bout a journey ended long ago Listen to the motion of the wind in the mountains Maybe you can hear them talking like I do They're gonna betray you, they're gonna forget you Are you gonna let them take you over that way Great Southern Land, Great Southern Land You walk alone, like a primitive man And they make it work, with sticks and bones See their hungry eyes, its a hungry home I hear the sound of the stranger's voices I see their hungry eyes, their hungry eyes Great Southern Land, Great Southern Land They burned you black, black against the ground Standing at the limit of an endless ocean Stranded like a runaway, lost at sea City on a rainy day down in the harbor Watching as the grey clouds shadow the bay Looking everywhere 'cause I had to find you This is not the way that I remember it here Anyone will tell you its a prisoner island Hidden in the summer for a million years Great Southern Land, in the sleeping sun You walk alone with the ghost of time Where they burned you black, black against the ground And they make it work with rocks and sand I hear the sound of the strangers voices I see their hungry eyes, their hungry eyes Great Southern Land, Great Southern Land You walk alone, like a primitive man You walk alone with the ghost of time And they burned you black Yeah, they burned you black Great Southern Land Great Southern Land Great Southern Land Great Southern Land Great Southern Land
Not got a long time left here BUT i will allways remember this great band and the great aussie sound you gave to me... Icehouse if they where from the U S A they would have been one of the worlds bigest bands BUT in my eyes they are.xxxx. FEED THE MACHINE.XXXXXXXXXXX.
Está canción me transporta aún atmósfera de añoranza, nostalgia no lo puedo explicar pero la reservo para las noches despejadas con una luna que ilumina mi sombra.
Funny, my dad was in the Navy in WW II and out of all the countries he visited during the war, he had the fondest memories of Sydney Australia. He actually mentioned he wanted to visit it again before he died but sadly never did. While he grew up idolizing the big bands of his time and Frank Sinatra, In his late 70's, he told me he really liked this song and heard it on the movie Young Einstein.
Reminds me of what one veteran who served on a sub said about a wild party a town gave them for saving some of their folks at sea. Apparently the mayors wife got bit in the rear by another man. Something that needs to be remembered. ;)
Im American and this is one of my favorites, I was in the 6th grade shortly after the movie came out and we watched it in class and I have been hooked ever since, great song, great band and great movie.
Everytime i hear this song, it reminds me of my time spent in Auckland. They played it all the time on radio. And my time there was such a great southern land.
If you have ever smelled the scent of burning gum leaves, seen a brilliant endless land of ochre and green underneath a steel blue sky, then this song makes sense to you.
Graças ao meus pais tenho um ótimo gosto de música boa até hoje em 2023 viva anos 80 e 90 essas músicas vai ficar eternamente em nossos corações ♥️🇧🇷👍👍👍 pra sempre
First time I saw the movie was in music history class in high school. It's still one of my all time favorites. Just bought the soundtrack on CD yesterday. Can't wait to listen to it!
I remember leaving a lame party with friends and checking out the theater. This was playing next and so we saw it. We all said we didn’t like it but nearly 35 years later I have fond memories of the flick for some reason.
Fantastic music that I listened to in my youth, first time in 82, then I was 21. Icehouse (Ishus in Norwegian) has always been one of my favourites, they are firmly on my playlist to this day👍
The scene when young Einstein sets off leaving his parents to go to school and this music starts playing is so epic one of the best scenes in the movie.
rows across Bass Strait just to get to School or to sell his patent for "EMC". haha. Blows up the dunny putting bubbles in beer and 'accidentally' discovers atomic energy?
This is a fabulous song, - and I'm from a northern European country. I been looking for this song for 7 years honestly..and finally I found thank you 😉👍
