No. Anglo-saxons were a mix between north Germanic and west Germanic peoples who mixed with native Celtic peoples (later on there was also mixing between french and additional foreign Germanic peoples such as the vikings to some extent). They spoke a west Germanic language which was old English, this was diluted with french and Latin influence after the conquest of the Normans in 1066 till today. Interestingly the Normans themselves were themselves vikings who intermarried into the french population over a few generations (which is where they got their name, Norman means from the north - ie Scandinavia). English is still a Germanic language despite it being primarily having Latin/French vocabulary.
Underdogs? They will bash through the cuckold France. The only regret I have is not betting with my friend before the competition started. We've had a habit of burning 30-40e on "underdogs" since 2008 (or 10). 2010 was fun, Uruguay had iirc 175 odds (fin 4th?). No fucking idea why, since forlan and suarez were pretty ace both back then. And I'm babbling. Carry on.
lol. Really, a Man's life without Football is like a wind . Football makes us strong , and by the mean of strong is we have a Strong Passion to the team that we support. Congrats Iceland Vikings for beating the Tea Drinking England! Thats #2 brexit for ya !
I am Portuguese but after seeing how valiantly these guys play if they ever face portugal again i won't be sad regardless of the winner... i will still prefer portugal to be honest but i will still rejoice in iceland's triumph, actually we almost got our butts kicked against them in the group stage... humble and hard working players... you don't represent my flag but you represent good values that apply to all of us... Best of luck in your future endeavors, i will be rooting for you!!
Iceland is my favourite team at Euro right now, they play beautiful football and they have awesome fans, I hope you will make it to the final and why not win the trophy. Greetings from Greece!
It just doesn't get any cooler than that hand clap and it doesn't matter one bit that you couldn't beat France. The whole country couldn't be prouder. Love you guys
Congratulations to Iceland.I wish you to live the same dream that Greece did in 2004.Of course you already have done a wonderful course.Greetings from Greece!
I was so happy to see England lose. Before the match, the commentators and fans were agreeing on how it'd be an easy victory and wham - England were demolished. Arrogance never works out well for the English.
That is what you get when you have a nationalistic team. Unlike England who is half foreign. the insensitive just isnt there for England. not untill it becomes English again.
***** Not necessarily. Morale and reason to fight are often deciding factors. Dont really get why you would be angry at someone for being nationalistic.
Machismo HISTORY FUN FACTS :did u now that Germanic Nordic Viking tribes take some Irish Celtics Womens before they settled to nowadays Iceland SO THIS CAN BE ALSO CELTIC INVASION OF THE EUROPE
Irish fans were plain awesome, but this is epic. I've never witnessed such power coming from fans to their playing team during the game and all game long, fantastic! 25% of the victories belong to the fans in the stadium, but also did Iceland play very well, besides the outstanding team work. Now they get to play against the host, what a wonderful journey for the team and their small football country! Congratulations and good luck!

A population of almost 320k citizen has 8% of their population traveled to Europe to watch their team play. Which means 27k of them, now that's what u call dedication. I mean u got to love it
This team are amazing. This, the greatest game in their lives and it's the prematch warmup, what did they do? Broke off from practising and went over to wave at their fans. Their keeper looks like an outfield player forced to wear the jersey - but every member of the team fills in for each other and helps each other out. A country of less than 350 000 people has humbled "the mighty" England - dumped out of Europe twice in one week by their own failings and misguided feeling of superiority. But it wasn't even close - England weren't peppering the goal with near-misses and great saves in the second half ... the opposite was true - why it wasn't 3-1 by the end to Iceland, I'll never know. They kept coming forward - even in the 91st minute when they shouldn't. That great overhead kick, unluckily straight to Joe Hart, in his last ever game for England... I know who I'm supporting from now on!
thank you iceland for beating the english, the whole of ireland is celebrating, now lets kick french ass on sunday, come on iceland!!!!!!!!!! love from ireland!!!!!!!
no no let them come home cos' there is not Europe... there is no place like home. Most important: gratz Iceland for your spirit, may the people of this planet learn from this
Actually Soccer is an english word, termed in the eighteenhundreds when english gentlemen sat down to make clear rules between football(rugby) and football (soccer) (you couldnt have them both called football now can you?) Over the years the term football took hold in england and rugby became rugby, soccer took hold in america and australia. The rest is history. Look it up
I'm not French, mais j'suis francophone and vie aux etas unis. For the first time I won't be supporting France. Iceland all the way 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.
