Traveling solo South Iceland road trip 2023. My 6th solo trip to Iceland, this time I went to the Westman Islands, got a flat tire on the east coast and drove the entire south coast on a spare. I wish I could have captured a lot more footage. Going solo is hard work with driving and battling snow and bad weather conditions. I took an FVP drone I never flew which will be a regret forever, just not enough time for it all.
I do not know when I will next go back to beautiful Iceland. If you go solo my advice is plan your shots and concentrate on a smaller area, versus trying to drive and rush the whole south coast in 5 days. I really wanted to see the rainbow road and that was much further out than I expected it to be. When I got there I had little time to spend before I turned around and drove back due to a storm coming. That's when I got the flat tire on top of the pass in a snow storm.
It was an adventure - driving 20 miles to the nearest gas station hoping I would survive as the tire just kept going down and down. I made it to the gas station and when I parked the tired was dead flat. Then imagine trying to explain I needed help to no one that spoke English, getting the car to a repair shop was something else. Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that don't go to plan - I quite enjoyed driving the entire south coast at 30mph watching the sunset, apart from everyone beeping at me!
