Part 5 - Iceland to Greenland Ocean Crossing Flight over the North Atlantic in a DA62.
The biggest General Aviation flight I’ve ever flown! Austria to Canada.

In this multi-part series, the largest #generalaviation project in FlightChops history, ride along with us as we team up with the Diamond Aircraft ferry crew and act as pilot flying on delivery of a new DA-62 light twin aircraft from Vienna, Austria to Diamond Aircraft’s Canadian base in London, Ontario Canada.
In this fifth episode of the series, we’re again packed into the survival suits in the DA62 and first real part of the Atlantic #oceancrossing from Iceland to Greenland. Micke is following behind in the DA42, allowing us to bird dog for weather using sophisticated weather radar and Garmin avionics fitted on the DA-62. This flight was #IFR but we were above the main cloud layer for most of the journey. Arriving in Greenland we had a little fun on the visual approach and nearly called a go around to do it again (joking!). We were hoping for a clear approach to see some of the scenery and managed to get down low enough to see the start of the glacier at the beginning of our descent..

During my DA62 familiarization flight at Diamond Aircraft’s base in London, Ontario prior to departing for Austria, I tested the Bose ProFlight in-ear headset; I already knew it was comfortable, but I wanted to see how the active noise canceling held up, and it was impressive - I am not surprised it is what Micke wears exclusively when flying Diamond Twins (which are admittedly quieter than most regular piston powered aircraft).
As the journey unfolds, we will continue to release more awesome extended/raw exclusive footage to Patreon supporters.

Not for $2 mil, it's not. That, is bullshit..! I don't care how "safe" a plane might be. For what this thing cost, it better cruise at 400kts & have a 2,000nm range. Because it's made from an injection-molded carbon-fiber material, with diesel engines and glass cockpits...?? For $2mil..?? You can buy a used Beechcraft Turbo P-Baron for $250,000 with the same cockpit, and laugh about it. It'll fly faster, higher, and go further. This thing is a frigging joke...!

Wow such a great video on this awesome ocean crossing. I swear if I could afford it, I'd love to have a nice sweet DA-62 twin!! Such a sweet plane!! Quite windy on the 09 and still, the sound of your video is more than acceptable in all conditions. The grey muffler on top of your camera is becoming one of your trademarks! Thank you for all the time (often tedious) you take during your flights and after, editing, to share all those great experiences you live, allowing us to live them through your videos.

@@nicolasbilal8769 We always referred to the boom and microphone assembly as a "dead cat on a stick." I always admired the audio techs for being able to hold that thing overhead for minutes at a time while keeping it as close to the talent as possible without it being visible in the frame.

Fun to follow along, then check out the Kangerlussuaq Airport on Google maps (too bad it wasn't the historical Bluie West 1 - Narsarsuaq). Fun watching the teaser for the next episode in Windsor and thinking "Yep... I've done that". Enjoyed the BAe 146 cameo; used to fuel those for USAir in SJC. Great to see Ron again, too! Editing my first engine start video now; my first 3-camera shoot and my laptop is hating me for it. I can just barely imagine what it's like for you to produce your videos; respect, as always. Hoping for Airworthiness Inspection before the end of the month.

Of course he's happy. He spends all his time playing with the glass cockpit, and almost never "aims his eyeballs" out the cockpit. He's a gamer who needs a glass-touch panel to play with. Not impressed.

In this ep I know you left from Reykjavík but have no idea where you were going in Iceland. I am 1.93 meter and sit very comfortable to be honest. I have more space in the 42 than in a Citation or Phenom. Actually today I was sitting in a M600 and there is no chance I could fly it, I am just too tall for that.

@@MickeLang I'm 1cm taller, though probably don't have your shoulders. ;) But I had figured as much: some of the comments about "42 is way too tight" were quite possibly from the... ahem... somewhat super-sized American type (and Australians are now statistically only inches - har! - away from Americans). The 62 seems to be even roomier? Very interesting on the M600: there's a guy on RU-vid who just traded in his 62 for a 600. Said he needed/wanted the pressurisation. He must be shorter than us!

That DC-9 at 15:48 was a surprise as well. It's had the Coke stickers peeled off it, but that's the Coca-Cola World Cup livery it wore in 2010. Good to see it still out there earning a living.

Btw, we’re getting accustomed to all these greased landings, you’re turning into a really accomplished pilot.👨‍✈️ And we can’t have that, you’re going to make the rest of us look like cement handed monkeys. 🐒 So feel free to throw in a couple of balloons, bounces, and erratic unstabilized approaches or you’re going to jinx this series. “Yes, I suppose we have time for some foolishness...follow za river..!”

But I have to be honest… it wasn’t about my skills :) All 6 of the landings I got to do on this trip were greasers because the DA62 is such a well balanced design it is really almost too easy to land. During my familiarization flight, Jarred gave me some great pointers specific to the DA62; I applied them, and it worked every time.
