Thanks.. I sold my R75 about 5 years ago.. These are nice SWL radios for sure.. Just needed to make room for other stuff!! Sort of Musical Chairs...After the 75 I got a Lowe HF-150 "Europa" version... The Europa version is the one to get, sort of like a Sony ICF-6800 "Orange" version.. I have a sticky S Meter in the Sony that needs to be fixed,, come on Summer time!!!
I did a better job putting whiteout on the knob indicators on the R75. For a minute, I thought you bought mine. But mine was the newer model w/o the synch. I'd still like to try a 8600 regardless of recent review 73
If you hold down the filter button, I think you can see the filter BW. You just toggle thru them & you can adjust how you want the 2 filters to act for the 3 position (N, M & W)
On the 890 the EQ setting are Factory Set for nominal operation. You have the ability to set each one as you like it. However they give you 3 User Defined EQ settings. Those are the ones I have set up for personal preference.. Listening now to 6000 KHz, Radio Havana Cuba... Don't tell the government on me!! LOL ROBERT
Does the 9500 have a lever under to adjust free spin on tuning knob like R75 does? I enjoy that little bonus. Nice to adjust from easy to turn to hard so ya don't bump it. TY for sharing.
If both the R75 and R9500 audio line out were connected to the line-in of an external high quality sound card unit, and amplifier with quality speakers, the apparent overall receive quality difference would noticeably reduce. I use two Edifier R1280db speakers to monitor R8500 or R8600 audio. The fidelity improvement is startling. The R8600 in wide 12 KHz AM on shortwave broadcasts sounds unusually good. RF man-made and natural ambient external noise at HF is sufficiently high that the RF sensitivity on modern receivers (e.g. R75, R8600, R9500) is already noise-limited. Hence Icom receivers feature more than adequate high RF sensitivity. The most experienced DXers know that location, and antenna system are the main contributors for success. The R9500 as impressive as it undoubtable is, for the majority of DXers, is not worth the considerable financial outlay. DXers obtain minimum 80 percent performance for a fraction of the price. Paying AU $18,500 versus AU ~ $2,000 for virtually all DXers is an easy intuitional call.
I honestly don’t know. They are whatever came stock. I have read the manual so many times and the way they describe the bw filter options/combinations is like trying to read Cyrillic.
