Been thinking about an RSP SDR unit for a while now. Thanks Nick! I think you have convinced me. Really like the AOR AR-5001, but a little out of my price range. Thankyou for showing and enjoy good DX!
Did you ever try the RSPdx against some of your top receivers like the Icom 9500?? That would be a great test to try out to see how good it is below 1700 KHz, or down near 350 KHz as the RSPdx has some unique filters to enhance that low band reception and cut down on noise... This $200 receiver could beat out the $13,000 radio?????? I was thinking of getting a RSPdx but need to be convinced it is that good... Robert

Nice comparison and tutorial! I've had mine for several months now and enjoy using it. Hey, look at the video around time stamp of 4:30. Watch for that funny frequency blip crawl up the band! When it crosses your tuned area, you'll hear a little sweep sound. I nearly fell over when I saw that! I am down in southwest Florida and have seen that exact thing! I thought it was some locally generated interference. Do you know what that is?
I am told it is called an ionoson and I probably spelled it wrong. It is something sending a test signal across the band to see where the best place is. Best for what? I don’t know
@@curtchase3730 Hey - these are called ionosondes and they're checking for how far signals are propagating on shortwave at any given time. They usually sweep about every 10-15 minutes and you can follow them up the band until they disappear.
Do you use the RSPDX much ? I have the RSPDUO , but I struggle with the whole computer bit. I can see the SDRs endless potential but give me an actual receiver any day over the SDR and I think I’d be more happier.
I don’t use the sdr much. I am like you, I would rather tune a radio than type on a computer. But, the sdr is an incredible radio that does incredible things.
@@dieselten01For it’s functionality and portability in such a small metal case, all you need is a laptop and a random piece of wire etc to get set up. It would be good to see what antennas you use and know how you got into radio and if you are just a listener or a licensed operator sometime , if you don’t mind sharing that in a video or a suggestion for one.
@@arthurtwoshedsjackson6266 i just saw this. I have a Wellbrook loop antenna mounted outdoors. I run it through a Stridsberg Engineering Multicoupler to feed all my radios. I am not a Ham. I just listen. Cheers Mate!
SDRConnect has been released in a 'Preliminary' form. It will work with Windows, MC, & Linux. WIll probably be mid-2024 before the first Release form of the software.
