I have both of those rigs also and the receive on the 7800 is way better than the ft1000D

Totally agreed IC-7800 has far greater reception capability than FT-1000D and TX is also way better too. If you use Icon SM-50 Microphone it will shine and people will tell you that you sound like BBC. Enjoy them both are excellent HF equipment of all times. You have the preamp on the Yaesu, so it's going to be more noisy.

Thanks totally agree noise is by product of signal amplification at pre-amp level. I try not to use much but during weak propagation it brings signal to readability then off course noise increases too. Though noise filters are very effective in this radio but they also have adverse effects on the crispness of audio. But I must admit you have very good ears and understanding of amplification of signal-to-noise characteristics. Thanks for bringing it up and supporting the channel, much appreciated. Best 73s
