Icon Qcon CrapX videos are always welcome, getting good work out of your department Marco, this is without a doubt the best CrapX video in the past 3 years.
Hi I spent some of my time looking at your Tutorial and I decided to buy ICON QCon Pro X. I think it is your best choice, thank you and will continue to follow you bye.
How does this compare to a Tascam Model 12? They seem like they're very similar, but the Tascam has an actual interface with with 10 line inputs. You just use a switch to switch between live recording and DAW controller. Is this more catered to electronic musicians or something? Is the Qcon a better surface controller? Honestly for the price, the Model 12 seems like the better value. Like way better value. Sure the QCon has motorized faders, but is it worth the extra $200 for that? What am I missing? I could get the QCon AND a 6x6 or 8x8 audio interface or get the Tascam and spend half the price.
I think this is something that wasn't planned in the mackie control protocol that everyone uses these days.. Developpers go the easy route of using this old coding... But I'm sure it could be done better if taken time to do it right.. ;)
Hi Mon Ami... Can you perhaps give an update on your experience with the Qcon controller? Have the new firmware/updates from Qcon fixed some of the issues that you had when you were first using the controller with Samp? I’m considering the Qcon Pro G2; the company’s site mentions Samplitude as being supported, but doesn’t really go into detail; and because we Samplitude Pro X users/fans are such a rare breed (compared to those who use other more popular DAW platforms), I’ve not been able to find much info on how the Qcon actually integrates with Samp in a real time scenario. Anyway... Hope you are doing well. 😊🙏
I find the Pro X working nicely with the latest firmware and overlay. You should know that it supports Mackie control configs and protocol.. so it's not so out of this world one could think.. I still can't move many faders at once without glitches.. but I think it's a midi limitation. Pushing 5 - 6 faders at onces doesn't work very well... but a few 2-3 is ok..
Hi Marco, I have just received the QCON pro X, and unfortunately I must note that the Samplitude overlay is missing in the accessories. Patience I will order it.
Thank you for a great tutorials! I Know that this might be irrelevant, but, I tried everything and the Icon support really sucks! am using Qcon Pro g2 and I can not get it to control the parameters of my VST instruments open in Kontakt, such as modulation, vibrato (breath) ... etc... which is basically what I aim to use it for... can you please help us your fellow composers with this issue? I am using it with CUBASE 10. many thanks in advance :)
I'm sorry, I can't find older version either. Althought, if you did not uninstall the software that installed the older firmware, it might still be there as a choice..
@@HishamGabr00 When you download the firmware, it comes in a software, mine is called QConProX.. When going in this software I get to chose to install various versions of the firmware because I've been upgrading to them one by one. The software kept them in memory and I can downgrade easily. Of course if you never installed the software, you do not have that chance.. But, if you load a Mackie Control standard config in your DAW, you should be able to customise the buttons to fit the fonctions you need.. just be carefull not creating doubles. use the actual configs to modify instead of creating new (unless a button is not currently assigned) Hope this makes my thoughts clearer.. ;)
Sorry to hear you're disappointed with our tech support, @hisham. I'll see if I can explain a little better. Your Qcon uses Mackie Control Protocol to control DAWs and plugins. Native Instruments DOES NOT support the Mackie Protocol , so it is sending no data to the controller in this protocol. You CAN use the controller to manipulate the instrument and midi tracks in Cubase, so that could provide you with some control over the midi parameters on those tracks. But no. That is not the same as being able to control the knobs on your virtual instruments in Kontakt. Unfortunately, the Icon devices and Native Instruments do not speak the same language.
Icon QCon too temperamental as it works and previously fixed issues appear to evolve until spending too much time fixing bugs of following instructions to fix new issues. Ended getting my money back. In my opinion, if you’re thinking about installing within a professional studio environment, make sure you give yourself a good month testing for reliability 1st. I also found that not many tech support are really acquainted with it as Icon want us to believe. However, it’s cheep and expandable too. Still has a way to go before I’d use it for work, as too stressful. You could end up with an unusable purchase there’s not a lot of support for. In a nutshell a brilliant looking product, and would be a great first console if it worked consistently..
I'm sorry you had a bad experience. On my side (not being sponsored at all) Mine works fine. Setup was easy and it never bugs.. Of course I'm not using the vsti control aspect which I find to be nonsense, since most are easier to control with the mouse. But transport, faders, pans and a few custom actitions I use work ok ! Let me know what you buy to replace it.. It's a good share for the viewers.. ;)
That is a bummer about the firmware update and overlay change. I just bought this unit and am waiting for it to arrive. I was wondering do I need to order a metal overlay or do they have a metal overlay for logic X? Thank you!
I'm guessing that it will ship with the new firmware installed and everything you need.. If not with the logic metal overlay, I'm sure they will include a plastic one.. Let me know !
@@MarcoPrimeau My Qcon G2 works great! it did come with the plastic Logic Pro template however it would be nice to have a metal on instead of the plastic flimsy overlay. however it really doesn't matter because it works great and I love it!! Thanks for the reply my friend!
I think it is absolute ass they make us pay extra. The CrapX was not cheap at all and it had a huge teething period, remember the shaking faders issue that took forever to fix? The inaccurate to this day meter bridge lights? Mine had a short in it zapping me for awhile there.... oh yeah and also the no meter for the master channel on the bridge that they blame on the DAWs, as consumers we went way out on the line to try to support this product and they have repaid us with down time, suffering, expense and poor performance.
I'm really frustrated by this. I've been using the old firmware and the Klinke mappings for Reaper. I sent the desk to get serviced and they've updated the firmware. Icon support just shrugged and said sorry, reaper's bad and now I'm left after spending almost £1000 on a controller that I can't use. I'm not sure I want to spend the money for the overlays, too
I'm sorry you had those problems. But if it was working ok with the older firmware, you can downgrade it. It's easy to do. Or you could customise every buttons like I did for a while.. Or you'd still be able to resell it.. I bet it kept a good value..
@@MarcoPrimeau i asked both Icon and the UK service centre for a copy of the older firmware, as the icon site doesn't have it listed, and they have either ignored me, or in the case of icon Customer Services, they tell me it's not possible to downgrade i.e. sorry not sorry. I've ordered the reaper plate for the new firmware, hopefully I'll get to grips with it, because I loved the desk before, it's been in service for 2 months and now this! I have mixes to complete for clients. Sorry, just venting, I know you're not working for Icon.
@@Danieljfern Sorry last time I went there, the older versions were available.. Let me check if I still have the file, I doubt it since I change computer since then.. I'll check.. But hey, if you didn't uninstall the software, it should still be available to install...
@@Danieljfern Sorry you're having a bad experience. Yes, old firmware versions are available on the website if a user needs to downgrade or prefers to maintain the old firmware. We have a lot of users who have chosen to stick with the old firmware versions.
Directly from Icon.. at the time they had a link on their support page. Maybe you can write to them. Last time I contacted the support they were answering promptly..
This is very frustrating that they don't give you the option since I have the prox and the extender XS. nearly 2 grand and forced to order a new plate due to firmware
As I understand it.. you are not forced to update the firmware and the overlays. The controler is fonctionnal without them. . . But 30$ isn't expensive for what I got...
Marco Primeau I received my new (Cubase) plate pretty quickly. Ordered mine on Saturday, received it next Thursday! For Cubase they added some nice new additions, but some other functions I still have to take a closer look, some buttons seem to act “weird”....
Marco Primeau Yeah, for Cubase there’s a project and a mixer button. You press mixer and no surprise, it opens the mixer. Hit project and your back in your project window. But if you press mixer a second time it closes the mixer and your back in your project window, so the project button is a bit double??🤷🏻♂️
@@Henry0870 on the Qcon Pro X, I also have a mixer button.. I think it's intended as is, open and close the mixer.. I do use it for this purpose and never tought furter about it ;)
I didn't do a complete mapping just the buttons I use more and they are specific for Samplitude pro X... But if you want it nonetheless, I can dig my harddrive to see if I still have it..
@@kazicotv6815 check in the description of the video.. I'm not sure it's the right file but you need to import this in samplitude controler page. Let me know if it worked
