When I think of bags that have stood the test of time I don’t think of the Birkin I think of the Chanel classic flap…… that is a timeless classic I think more so than the Birkin. Also Princess Diana was gifted the Lady Dior bag (not called that at the time) in 1985 on a trip to Paris and was called the chouchou bag before Dior re named it…… x
I'd add the Gucci Jackie to the list - Named after Jackie Kennedy/ Onasis. Potentially the Chanel original classic flap, as it's so associated with Coco.
Chanel 2.55/classic flap. I watched a 1950's movie the other day and a woman carried one and looked every bit as effortlessly elegant as if worn today. The classic of classics.
The Chanel classic flap should have been in the list for sure. In my humble opinion, Birkin, Kelly, Chanel classic flap, LV speedy and lady Dior are the most classic. They all have history and a story behind them, they were not discontinued and they’re all still popular today.
I love your videos, Deb! I will watch whatever you put out! You have a great personality that comes through, and a very soothing voice! I love seeing your bags and my faves are always your LV bags! Great to see and hear your thoughts on them! ❤
Great video, Deb. I think you’re correct about social media; it seems to have encouraged the different design houses to overproduce and saturate the market with so many handbags that nobody can catch their breaths. The closest that I’ve noticed in my short time watching luxury youtube is the contemporary brands of Launer London, Aspinal of London and Strathberry that have been loved by some of the women from the Royal Family in Great Britain (Queen Elizabeth, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle). Although these brands aren’t known far and wide, these things generally take a long time to catch on.
Love this video Deb! Also another iconic bag is the Louis Vuitton Alma, it was created for Coco Chanel as a special order in 1925 and the she approved to sale it to the public later on. Also the Chanel 2.55 which was created with straps and it was a total hit bc back then the bags were just made top handle 😂
I get people arguing for the classic flap as an iconic bag _but_ Coco Chanel didn't carry a classic flap with the cc clasp. She carried the reissue. All the bags listed are worn by the women they are associated with. The Chanel classic flap is still iconic, regardless.
I think the Birkin stood the test of time because it wasn't used in a pretentious way by Jane Birkin. She uses it went day and it stands up to being used every which way and always still manage to look chic even in a well used stage.
It had to be affiliated with an icon! Someone pointed out the Jackie bag for Gucci which I hear they have changed the hardware on. Chanel obvs is a classic but what icon person carried one that it influenced the House to change the bag name? People pay attention! 😂
