@dwaynecoy1871 3 года назад
Agreed. You expect to see all the great athletic catches of Griffey, Andruw Jones, Hunter, Lofton, etc. But I had forgotten just how far Edmonds laid out for that ball. And the fact that it was directly over his head and he heading face first into the warning track as he laid out to catch it. Remimincent of a great "Ghost to Post" catch by Dave Casper. I'm glad they started the episode with that catch or it might have gotten lost in the middle and overlooked.

Nice touch having the Willie Mays catch off of Vic Wertz in the 1951 World Series and then ending it with the catch that gave Jordan Zimmerman his no-hitter. As a HUGE Boston Red Sox fan, it was great to see one by Mookie Betts, who as the great fielder that he is, has had a few, now, in his career. When you start off as a little leaguer and the coach decides you're an outfielder your practice is include endless hours of shagging balls. As you get older you would learn to know exactly where the ball is going to land as soon as it leaves the bat , repetition, and these professional athletes have made an art of it. Coming out of high school I had that for a fleeting moment, pure Magic.

@Jameson619B
@Jameson619B 5 лет назад
Yeah I know right? Only people who aren't very smart say and think baseball is boring. Unlike the other sports it's a "thinking man's" game. Not just the play and the history but the way it has to be managed, it's the only sport that requires that type of knowledge because unlike every other sport you can't swap in and out players at whim. You can't come off the field for a breather or to checkout an injury. It takes planning and forethought. Baseball is also the only perfect game (don't get me wrong I love football) but baseball unlike all the rest doesn't rely on a clock meaning unlike most others it can't end in a tie. Each team gets an equal number of opportunities every time so you know exactly who was better at the end of the night. Not to mention hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in any sport. Pretty much all the other sports anyone can emulate and do the tasks of the other sports (not saying they can do it well but they can do the basics) not baseball you could give the average person all day to try and square up a MLB pitch and it ain't happening.
@formalpainter6598
@formalpainter6598 5 лет назад
@@Jameson619B First of all "Thinking mans game" sounds more like football to me knowing schemes match ups and tactics. Also I'm not saying baseball is boring to play necessarily, I like playing it it but it doesn't have the constant action of soccer, basketball, lacrosse, etc. Also pacing yourself is certainly not unique to baseball and, except for the pitcher, not really that big of a thing in baseball compared to other more active sports. No you don't know "exactly who was better" every time, there is luck in baseball like all sports. Also in most sports, besides obviously soccer, a tie game is not all that common. Having hitting be hard doesn't automatically make it better, I don't follow your point. Take your average person and put them in an NFL game as a wide receiver and they aren't catching a football while covered by the corner, that doesn't mean that football is perfect. Overall I like baseball but most of the time watching it is relatively boring compared to other sports. Also fuck off with calling me stupid you pretentious asshole. (Side note are you James' son or Richard's? Maybe you should clarify with your parents on that one)

@Y Marina yeah I totally agree. A hitter with a .262 average, 28hr, 793rbi is totally not a HOF career...oh wait...they actually do look at more than offensive numbers... 62.8 career WAR right there with Ozzie's 67.6 He's absolutely a HOFr. The Chris Taylor catch at 20:06 really stings as a Brewers fan. The game (and catch) that ended the chase to the World Series. Hopefully this year is the year.

Having Griffey jr, andruw, and jim on the thumbnail is pretty deserving. The great outfielders.

Since I'm an Indians fan and I have to sing his praises where ever I go. Kenny Lofton should be in the Hall of Fame. There is no argument you can make to make me change my mind. He was that good.

That Gary Matthews Jr catch is by far my favorite, although as a Mets fan, after that Endy Chavez grab in Game 7 of the NLCS, I thought we were bound for the Series.

I remember a diving catch made by Coco Crisp back in 06 when he was with the Red Sox that would probably be deserve to be in this video.

The catch by D Wise saved a perfect game, the rest were just outs.

Andruw Jones doesn't get enough respect for his defense, and he gets a ton of respect for it lol. (That's just how good he was). He is the greatest defensive outfielder of all-time. Yes guys like Griffey and Edmonds were great but to me even they don't come close. What I think hurts him when people debate and rank the best ever is his unbelievable ability to make the tough catches look easy and make the impossible catches look almost routine. So people may not get a full grasp of just how damn good he was out there.

I’m sorry but that DeWayne Wise catch was crazy I watched it while it happened. The perfect game seemed inevitable at that point. What a play man what a play

After the 97 season, Stuart Scott would say, "still not better than the Jim Edmonds catch" after highlights from other sports. I think he ran with that for almost a year. Devon White's catch in the 92 World Series will probably be forgotten in time, partly because Devo made everything on defense look easier than it was. Dave Justice smoked that ball over his head, and both runners were long gone with nobody out. Only a missed call on the second tagout kept it from being a triple play. Nobody thought White had a chance on that ball, but we were all reminded why he won 7 Gold Gloves.

I just don't understand why Aaron Rowand's catch as a Phillie when he broke his nose running into the center field wall is never in this kind of highlight compilation. It was an amazing catch in its own right and then you add that there was bases loaded and two outs when he caught it, in a game that the Phillies narrowly won. Probably my favorite regular season play ever.
