Great review. Love to see the love for the new piece. I appreciate the love for the new screen setup. I spent a bunch of time trying to get the simpliest wording and make the quickest and most important info show.

Nailed it dude. Hard to critique this thing. What’s next? Redundant MADI?

Love the video and the small playback rig history overview at the start. I would love to see a 2U too, with the connections (and more like more MIDI din ports, adat, bnc) the back. That locking IEC (preferable with the small metal outside lock, so you can use regular cables) would be great too. Usb A to C cables added can still be handy if you are running out of C ports. I would probably still make a patch panel to keep the connectors safe and to add more options.

hey eric love this vid! was looking for some advice on a rig. Trying to combine 1 Mic, 1 Bass(DI or Virtual), Novation Launchkey 61(Midi), Maschine Mk3(2 outs), Launchpad(Midi), Midi Fighter Twister, and 4 V.1 Sunhouse Sensory Perc Sensors. Would be a total of 8-10 inputs. Been considering the Play Audio 12 for awhile but im unsure of what to sum all of those channels to before sending. Will be running IEMs and moderate lighting in the future as well. Do I need something like a Scarlett 18i20 or a M32? Trying to keep cost down as much as possible. Happy to provide more info if needed, cheers!

Nice review! Now that leaves the question, will you eventually get another pass through panel with a power con for your Apollo interface or just simply route that out the back with a TRS to XLR cable and call it a day?
@eldowns
@eldowns 9 месяцев назад
Great question. I actually just sent my PA1U out on a week rental with an Apollo Solo. It didn’t really fit in the rack intuitively, but because it’s little and bus powered, I just tossed in the case separately, which, tbh, I don’t think is a terrible solution.
@GarrettSchwenk
@GarrettSchwenk 9 месяцев назад
@@eldowns nice! I didn’t know the solo was bus powered. very convenient. I’m currently trying to find solutions for my Twin, with the PA1U while still keeping it in a cary on pelican size and solving power for both units…
@camshash

iConnectivity says the XLR outs are also phantom power protected, whereas the PA12 they were "phantom power resistant".

I’m not sure what the difference is on that one.

Nice review! I'd wish it also were some kind of digital output like Dante or Madi on this thing too. But I guess you can't have everything unfortunately. How do you prefer splitting the signal for FOH and IEM ? I was thinking that as of today, I don't need more than 6 outputs for playback. I could split each channel like the same signal goes to say output 1 and 7, 2 and 8 etc. Else you will also need a splitter like Art S8 too I guess.
@eldowns
@eldowns 2 месяца назад
Yeah, digital would be weird to have alongside analog, but that’s definitely the next step for me. The outputs I use depends on the show, but I’m rarely below 8, so I’m generally not using it as a split for FOH and MON.
@runesig
@runesig 2 месяца назад
@@eldowns OK, so you are using a separate splitter as well?
@eldowns
@eldowns 2 месяца назад
@@runesig More often than not, the split is digital with FOH just pulling off of MON, but Ana analog split works as well.

Hey Eric. I know you mostly build rack-mountable playback rig but I'd like to know what you think about the M-Live B.beat?
@eldowns
@eldowns 9 месяцев назад
I had never heard of it until now. I checked it out, but right away anything that only plays pre-loaded files without a quick and easy way to make edits is an instant dealbreaker for me.

Hey Eric can you link to where you got the rack mount case for your current setup in the video? I've just bought the PlayAUDIO1U , so looking for something exactly like that. Cheers!

Hey Adam, I currently swap my PA1U between either an SKB 2U Studio Flyer or a 2U Fly Rack. The rack in this video is from a Norwegian manufacturer called Flight Case by Skarding. Really lightweight, sexy cases!

just got hired as a Keyboard tech for a BIG band, but one of my new duties is triggering samples in real time on a midi keyboard along with the band through ableton, we need a redundant rig and was looking at the Play Audio 12 or this for the redundancy and outputs. one song has playback tracks but the rest is me live triggering, will the play audio 12 be good for that, and sync them correctly through 1 board? Life sine work even if the song has no playback? Can ya steer me in the right direction?
@eldowns
@eldowns 8 месяцев назад
It sounds like either the PA12 or the PA1U would be fine. Both will offer you redundancy (and yes, LifeSine will work even if there's no playback). You could control playback and the samples all off of one keyboard via USB. Piece of cake.

@@eldowns interesting! I'm curious why your opinion has changed since making this video?
@eldowns
@eldowns 5 месяцев назад
@rustonfettig It hasn’t really. The 1U is the better interface for the vast majority of people - just think the video reflects this, no?
@rustonfettig

@@eldowns23:25 in your video you comment that the PA12 isn't dead and still has a very significant use case.
@eldowns
@eldowns 5 месяцев назад
@rustonfettig I suppose, but prior to that, I said that the PA1U is the best choice for the vast majority of people. The PA12’s use case may be significant, but it’s very specific.
