Out of all the Metallica band members, I've come to realize that Kirk is the one who is most enjoyable to listen to when it comes to recollecting the old days. He has a very vivid memory and is very articulate as a storyteller. He also genuinely seems like one of the nicest guys you could imagine. I could honestly listen to a long form podcast series where Kirk Hammett tells the entire Metallica story from his perspective. So fascinating interview. Kirk is so humble and down to hearth. His telling is like reading a book of memories. What struck me the most is how intense he was explaining the first gig with 30 people as it was yesterday. Most of the Rock stars would not even go there anymore. They could not even remember it. Egos you know...But not Kirk. The second was the raising of guitar maters as he pointed out, Malmsteen, Lynch, Van halen, and they pulled up justice for all to show they can be advanced technically. Still Kirk saying, "after 40 years of playing I should be better than that"....What is not to like in this man? :-)

@@henrydauseb2844 I'm just a contrarian/highly disagreeable personality trait score lol ( i'm in like the 90th percentile in terms of measured disagreeability, I often disagree just to give people in conversations a different angle, not that I'm trying to make them angry, for me it's entertaining in my mind to be critical of greatness - and as such I admit that it's not a great social skill to be constantly getting a dopamine hit out of sharing unpopular opinions, whether I hold them true or not or degrees in between... I love Kirk Hammett, not every comment needs to validate the very human desire to see everyone praised, I mean if you wen't through this whole comment section you could find a lot worse than what I said i'm sure... it's a part of Kirk's reputation as a legend that he isn't the absolute BEST guitarist on the planet and uses wah wah to cover up for his lack of speed and accuracy. Why he never, or doesn't develop that through practice is beyond me, but I merely want the best for him, I mean it. he's the reason I started playing guitar in the first place. Spent most of high school and college learning metallica songs note by note and it was an excellent band to start with as a guitarist cus you could learn to do some pretty impressive sounding shit pretty fast if you practiced 6+ hours a day like I did. Within a few years I was playing Eruption by Van Halen at the school talent show... god 18 years ago lol I miss those days. From Kirk I discovered my 2nd love, Joe Satriani, and from him a variety of insanely complex and talented musicians of many many genres. I was merely making valid consideration to how I view and admire his legacy. Believe me, my first guitar was a ESP/LTD kirk hammett model (goddamn that floyd rose bridge on the cheap one tho lol) I grew up loving metallica, all of it's members, even Lars (who for the record was RIGHT about napster). I'm sry i ticked your buttons buddy. For the record I think Kirk is one of the best guitar lick writers in rock and roll/heavy metal in general. On almost every album - that's why most people felt saint anger was so dissapointing. I merely wished to express my admiration through fair and honest critique. I could praise his work all day but where would I start? O think his solo work on Death Magnetic for example is fucking brilliant (the day that never comes, suicide and redemption, unforgiven 3) Hell Unforgiven 1 has one the best classic clean to heavy building type of solo's EVER IMO. Similar to the solo in One. It's brilliant. I just wish he had more "tools" at his disposal like some of the more disciplined guitar players in metal. It would help with the evoluiton of the styles of the various albums. IMO Death MAgnetic similar to And Justice For All is a great are great examples of Metallica's musical range, of which kirk is undeniably linked. And speaking of "tools" using some more effects and not relying on the whammy as much would be REFRESHING. Sry I came off as negative - I forget people actually take great offense to musical opinions hehe, because I just don't. If someone doesn't like parts of a band or music that I like, they are entitled to post that argument anywhere across the internet. :3 That good? I could go on... ? S&M and S&M2 are 2 of the greatest live concerts videos/albums EVER. Like in the history of music. Like, very few symphony backed bands sound as good as they do. Happy New Year friend. :)

@Rapportus5 And a prosperous 2021 to you and yours brother🤘🏾 I'm from a settlement in southern Africa, where most people have never even heard of metal. So I won't lie to you, I'm pretty new to it if I'm being honest. I'm 18 now, and I've been playing guitar since long time (albeit mostly African music). I moved to urban area last year for school, and it was there I heard Fade to Black a few months back... and with it... metal for the first time. And I was just in shock, never heard music that sent chills through body, and nothing could've prepared me for that epic fade to black outro solo. And so it began, my Metallica journey. Unforgiven (all three), The day that never comes, nothing else matters and to live is to die are currently my favorites. Being new to this style of guitar playing, I honestly just fell in love with the style, and with Kirk as a person as well. And naturally, want to one day be as good as him (hopefully better? Maybe?). I'm sorry bud I got a little triggered, it's not like I'm an expert on this style of playing so I'm not one to talk. I guess I'm suffering from the noob syndrome where everything sounds perfect to me and I haven't yet explored their catalogue. So that's on me, apologies 🤝🏾

His a humble man and a humble person knows they sure ain’t perfect. Who the fuxk is perfect I wanna ask. I bet Kirk Hammett would say I ain’t fuxken perfect man. I haven’t got a definitive answer to that question there.

Whenever the band members recall memories, my favourite to listen to is Kirk. He explains things like he paints a vivid picture. Lars's can recall exact dates, exact stadium, exact time, what the weather was like. The way Kirk speaks is like listening to someone read a novel. This vid really makes me look at him in a different way. Not only as the lead player, but as a true pioneer. He was there through it all, from before the sound existed to the 50 crowds, to the 80,000 stadium tours. Just a guy that enjoys playing and never gave up on his craft.

Kirk is modest, but he also has a quiet confidence about him. He's not afraid to acknowledge the impact of the band. It's just an objective fact that they are one of the most important metal bands and will be forever. Not acknowledging that is false modesty and he's better than that.
