It's sometimes easy to feel like doctors aren't human like us because they see so much every single day. I'm glad you not only have a good head on your shoulders but are also kind and compassionate. This video hit really close to home. I had the exact situation as the man with the cardiac arrest, but I was 34 at the time. I was in the ICU for 5 days before being moved to the cardiac ward of the hospital. I, thankfully, didn't suffer any neurological damage. The doctors never discovered what caused my heart to stop.

I also wanted to share a quick story. When I was in elementary school my principal passed away from a heart attack while riding his bike one day. He was only 42 and had no history himself of any issues that may have pointed towards something like that happening nor any family history. He ate incredibly healthy and exercised regularly. He wasn’t on any medication and refused to take even a Tylenol. But somehow, something got to him and unfortunately it became what I think would be considered a medical mystery because there wasn’t a single thing that should have caused that to happen to him and and they still haven’t been able to find out what caused it. (I’m still hopeful that one day once there’s more technologically and science or whatever else they need they’ll find a reason) The first patient you talked about just reminded me of him and his family and I just wanted to share his story. Who knows, maybe it can help inspire someone to make the technology that will make it so his family would finally have some piece of mind.

When I was diagnosed with LQTS in 2002 it was considered a zebra and most doctors I saw didn't know what it was. I have actually pointed out the QT interval on an ECG and worked the Bazett formula for them. It wasn't until 2017 that the mutation I have was verified by genetic testing. It is really good to see that it is being recognized now.

You've been helping Covid patients for too long when an ugly bone infection and a cardiac arrest make you "happy" - but I get what you're saying. In Switzerland - where I live - it also feels like things are going back to somewhat normal, and it feels good. As always I am so impressed by your bedside manner. In that case the way you're talking to the wife, asking important question, telling her she did the right thing and showing compassion.

I have been very fortunate that it has been months since I have had a whole patient load of only covid patients. I have them mixed in here and there. A few months ago the same exact thing happened to my father. Sudden cardiac arrest from an arrhythmia that was undiagnosed and he was in the ICU for weeks. He's home now and doing well but this was really helpful to watch.

Hello my name is Cecelia I’m 18 years old, I am a former preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome patient. I had my son at 29 weeks gestation due to my unfortunate events. We spent 84 days in the NICU day and night. We witnessed intubation numerous times, C pap, ram cannula, proning, chest tubes, nasal cannula, decodron, etc just to keep him alive. After 84 days of sleeping at the hospital I had grown a comfort to it. My point to this story is I love watching your videos it brings me comfort. Although our times in the hospital were long and challenging seeing you saves lives in the ICU brings me back to all the doctors who saved my sons life. Thank you for that.

I am a volunteer community first responder here in the UK, I have been doing this 7yrs now, the reason I do it is because the NHS saved my life and it's my way of just given something back. I have done 17 cardiac arrests now and got one person back. These are all outside hospital so the rate of survival is a lot lower. Like the doctor said CPR and getting on the chest asap makes all the difference it really does. I have been the 1st person on scene a lot of the time. I cover a 5 mile radius around were I live and I love in the countryside. I love what I do I am on call now and have been all day it is now 10.30pm. It's my choice how long I am on call. And I have carried being on call though out the pandemic, I did not have too but it was my choice to help out were I could. I also go around the villages and give free CPR lessons and also what too do when someone is choking? And how to use a defibrillator plus putting someone into the recovery position, always have a good turn out. And I also did 100 scouts too that was good fun they all very good. I got my hands on 30 cpr dummies so they all can do cpr. There faces when they walk in and see all the dummies and that it is all hands on. I even have a choke vest so you can practice the abdominal thrusts. It's always a bit of fun doing that one as people love given back slaps to others.

I have watched a lot of your videos and love them. I went to an outpatient appointment at a hospital ENT and from there to surgery. Spent the next 9 months there. Got to know a lot of folks and walked around a super lot. Observed how things work. I had many great caregivers from surgeons to cleaning crew, food service, nursing, consults, etc. They make a big difference. You look to be among those. Well done!

Thanks for making this video. When you talked about the guy who had sepsis and had a long history of poorly controlled diabetes, it really reminded me of my dad. He would get recurrent sepsis after his colostomy surgery. At the end, he died from that C. diff bacterial infection that got to his bone, aged 60. I hope that guy gets better.

Even though I've been vaccinated for weeks, seeing your call shirt was comforting. We've all been through such a long, tough time. Every bit of normalcy is another deep breath!

I’m so glad to hear that the Covid situation seems to be turning a corner up there!! It’s so hopeful to feel like it *is* a light at the end of the tunnel, locally and globally, even if we do still have a ways to go. I also just want to say how much I appreciate getting to listen in on snippets your work night: the compassion you showed the wife of the man who had the arrest, and the anxious Covid patient, maybe particularly her, because I’m the same age, and would be scared to death in the same position. It’s comforting to know, had I been in her shoes, there are people who aren’t only skilled clinicians, but caring, empathetic people too.

I went through Cooling Protocol about 18 months ago after a 40 minute cardiac arrest. I don't have a wife, but the EMTs were called for a heart attack before I coded and they promptly rolled me down the stairs and to the ambulance where they used a LUCAS device to do chest compressions. Apparently, my gag reflex was too strong for intubation, so they bagged me. They eventually got it in somewhere along the line, but then I got intubation pneumonia, collapsed lung, pulmonary edema, etc. Luckily for me, they identified the cause of the STEMI/VFIB: thrombosis in an under-expanded LAD stent. I'm fighting a URI now, which is why I missed this video when it came out. I tested positive for Adenovirus, but it's acting more like Strep Throat (rapid test and culture were negative for Strep) and is causing mouth sores on the tonsils, gums and tongue so bad I can barely eat or drink and it keeps me up all night. Ever heard of Adenovirus behaving like that? (My Google-fu fails me.) On the plus side the fever finally abated last night after 5 days and nights hitting 101-102.5F. I was that guy outside in 99°F weather shivering in a fleece jacket and stocking cap. Oddly, now my temp keeps crashing to 97°F, so maybe I'm getting better, but the tickling in my trachea and bronchial tubes is making me wonder if round 2 is coming.

I’m serious about this comment, if I ever co back to Ontario, I want to know where you work just in case a get ill (I have some pre existing conditions), but I have to tell you, after 11 years of weird things in my life (brain aneurysm, aortic aneurysm, sepsis, and many things in the middle counting about 1 year in the hospital during this 11 years and now a pituitary tumor) if I need something, I want to fall in the best medical hands and you fit the profile, you’re excellent, dedicated and most importantly, you love medicine, if I ever go to Ontario, I’ll send you a message!! Congratulations on your channel, you’re doing such a great work! Is admirable! Keep I going!!!
