As a Swedish lingustics nerd, the most interesting about Icelandic to me is, that it still pretty much is the same language, that our common ancestors spoke one thousand years ago. The old more complicated grammar, that we Swedes only can find in some old expressions these days, is still very much alive in Icelandic and Faroese. In this song, the expressions "i Gledhibankanum" and "tóman blús" are great examples of this.
Á dögum hrunsins stóð ég við hliðina á Gunnari Þórðarsyni utan við vegg alþingisgarðsins. Í alþingisgarðinum höfðu mótmælendur hópast saman. Í þann mund sem lögreglulið marseraði inn í garðinn horfumst við í augu og verð ég að segja að annan eins reiðisvip hef ég sjaldan séð á öðrum manni. Ég vippaði mér yfir vegginn og Gunnar þórðarson á eftir eins og hann hefði aldrei gert neitt annað um ævina. Allan tímann hafði Gunnar ekki sagt orð, reiðisvipurinn sagði allt sem segja þurfti. Þarna reyndi lögreglan að tvístra hópnum og er mér það ógleymanlegt þegar einn lögreglumannana æddi ógnandi að Gunnari. Ég fylgdist sérstaklega með þessu og þarna á þessum tímapunkti skynjaði ég reiði Gunnars sem áþreifanlega. Gunnar sté eitt skref fram með hendur á síðum og þannig ekki ógnandi en með alla þessa réttlátu reiði í andlitsdráttum. Um leið birtist hikandi svipur lögreglumannsins og ákvörðun hans að taka á Gunnari varð vandræðaleg. Svo vandræðalegt varð augnablikið að hann tók sér svolítinn tíma að ákveða hvorn mótmælandann hann ætti að takast á við.
The guy at right, with black suit & black gloves, is it really Eirikur Hauksson / Eric Hawk, now singer of the norwegian power-metal band called Artch ? It's amazing, I cannot believe it...
Hello, I have a question. I am currently making a educational audio about the history of Icelands Eurovision journey and I would love to use a snippet of this song in there. Could I maybe use it or is there any way you could direct me to the makers of this song so I can use it without copyright? Thank you so much in advance
Hi Mr. Ronnie, Thanks for your reply. Maybe I was a bit absent-minded, but the English lyrics of this Icelandic song appear in the own presentation of this video by eurovideonary, below the label "more info"....bye!
Hi...I don´t speak Icelandic and I can´t find the english lyrics of this song...could you tell me what the song is all about?? What do they say?? Thanks
I'd like to add the trivia that Eirikur Hauksson(guy in black) is kind of an "honorary norwegian"😅 he is well known in norway as well and he speaks norwegian fluently.
