She faked her age actually, she said she was 15. Because of that Eurovision had to state explicitly in the ESC's rules that no performer under the age of 16 might perform on stage in the contest.

Exceptionally difficult vocally challenging song to sing & she absolutely nailed incredible vocal performance & stage presence for someone so young, she was only 14 back then I believe.

When you think that young Sandra Kim went out and completely nailed this vocal which has a wide vocal range in a live performance . These days at Eurovision some of the contestants are only good in the studio. When they come to sing at the contest despite all the tracks etc they are a disappointment. Sandra went on to have a career as an adult too. She has a great voice.

It's a pure eighties classic brilliantly performed. It would be hard to imagine anything as infectious as this going into Eurovision today. Most of the recent winners have been pretty forgettable. But this song will live forever.

Sandra Kim was born as Sandra Caldarone in Liège, Belgium, on 15 October 1972. She became a star when she won the Eurovision Song Contest in Norway in 1986 with the song "J'aime la vie". She was only thirteen years old at the time. After her win, she became a big star in Belgium, but she didn't score any hits as big as "J'aime la vie" anymore, so the number of gigs fell down.
