Summed up by your often used word ‘ little’. Even the extra 200mill just takes it up to the length of the SWB T6.1.

I saw one of these on the M1, admittedly it was a left hand drive I think German number plated one. WOW! they look much much better in real life so to speak and are actual bigger than they look. I was expecting a mid sized van but NOPE they are full size and the paintwork look exceptionally shiny lots of depth to the paint work. Very in proportion so to speak.

Super keen to see what you do with this. Had a lay down in the back of one today and was immediately aware of how much smaller it is than the transporter. Personally I kind of like the idea of a smaller van as it's easier to place on the road and park, plus it's usually just me sleepihg in it, but for someone that always goes away with the family i think they would seriously miss the space.

Is there space under the passenger seat to put a fridge drawer under it? I can’t believe how much height/space they are wasting by covering the front part of the cargo space, though I guess they value the flat load space higher. I have looked at VWs guidelines and they state you should leave the roof truss in place but then I’ve seen at least two conversion with pop tops already that clearly removed/moved them. Looking forward to see what you come up with.

@@charlesdeakins2546 The buzz does have a heat pump. Or at least the ID platform has a heat pump, although I gather it's efficiency turned out surprisingly poor in the ID4. There is an updated version in the LWB Buzz which alegedly works way better, and that model is clearly going to be a lot better as a camper anyway due to more space and (a bit) more range. What's currently missing (ridiculously) is a camp mode to keep the van heating on overnight. Also no bidirectional AC charging, which is silly - the vehicle has all the hardware. Come on VW, pull your fingers out (or give us the bloody software so we can fix this stuff ourselves).

I got to have a good look at one of the first ID Buzz Cargo's in Norway, as the first "customer", in the basement of Norways bigest VAG dealer (and may be the biggest VAG EV dealer in the world) 2 days before it was to get its license plates, in september. My conclution is that, at least the short wersion is a little bit to smaal to make a good camper (Well, people in the US lives in their Prius). At that time the messurements of the LWB was not known, but it will be 30cm longer, not 20cm and it will be awaylable with 2 bigger sets of batteries, and also as a 4wd and for the passenger version, it will be possible to take the back seats in and out. (it is not, at the moment) I think we should consider the Buzz to be the EV version of the Caddy, not the T6,1

The cost of any vehicle is not just the price of buying it, but also the cost of the fuel. You will be saving a lot of money driving electric, but you would need to have some very distant holidays to the south of Italy or south of Spain till the saving on fuel start to add up.

It might be worth considering the recharge time of the traction battery. All EV's of any brand will either have a 400 volt or a 800 volt traction battery. If an EV has a 400 volt traction battery the 10-80% recharge time is about 40-45 minutes, depending on the make and model. If an EV has a 800 volt traction battery the 10-80% recharge time is about 20-25 minutes, depending on the make and model. All Volkswagen's that are currently on sale have a 10-80% recharge time of 40-45 minutes. However Volkswagen has announced that in 2024 they will start producing the ID.7 which will have a 10-80% recharge time of 25 minutes. And Volkswagen has announced that in 2025 they will start producing the ID.2 which will have a 10-80% recharge time of 25 minutes. The ID.2 is a much more budget focused car and will probably cost about 25,000 Euro's. So it looks like Volkswagen will be rolling out faster batteries in the coming years, probably for their entire range. I don't know when Volkswagen is going to give the ID Buzz a battery upgrade, but it won't be any time soon, they have only just released the ID.Buzz. But give it a few years and you'll be having the 25 minute recharge time which if you have to recharge about 10-15 times between the UK and the south of Italy, will be a very important metric to look at.
@xxwookey
@xxwookey Год назад
The LWB has the option of a slightly larger battery (82kWh vs 77 kWh) but it's still a 400V architecture. The Buzz charges pretty fast at 170kW peak, and good fast curve past 60%. So it's 28 mins 10-80%. Not as good as the 15 mins of the eGMP vehicles, but good enough for most people. I'll take that. Manufacturers should publish charge curves. It's really important info and it's hard to find.

The infrastructure for electric cars and the range is simply not there at the moment and will be many, many years before it's worth going down the electric route. By then, hydrogen vehicles will have taken over like what GCB is doing. Or, there will be a conversion kit for your current vehicle to have an electric system fitted. If you look on RU-vid now, there are companies taking VW Transported engines out and fitting electric systems to them so it's only a matter of time.

If you think that it’s difficult to build an electric charging station, I’ve got news about hydrogen…. Most of the very few hydrogen filling stations in the UK have closed.
