This video focuses on the ghost towns of Dewey, Silver City, Delmar, and Ruby City located in Owyhee County Idaho. Men such as William H. Dewey and Joseph R. De Lamar made lasting impacts on the area through mine and town developments. The mining activity in the Owyhees was centered on gold and silver and lasted nearly 50 years before many people moved away.

My great grandfather was born in Delamar in 1894. His father and uncle, John Williams Plummer helped to fund the building of the hotel and were overseers of the mine.

Love the focus on mines in the Owyhee's. I've found most are all about mines up in northern Idaho when there's so much they are leaving out in the southwest corner.

Where do you gather so much information on these towns? Ive tried to look into some of then but had teouble finding much information

There are a couple of older books published in the 1970s and 80s I used to gather a lot of the information. They were pretty generic in their titles like Ghost Towns of Idaho and that sort of thing.

I was hoping the “Gem State” would host some awesome mine tours! Just abandoned mine hikes…very sad they kind of destroyed history in Idaho.

I haven't run across a mine tour in the US before. I've only ever seen them in Europe. I assume part of the reason is that the insurance required to operate a tour would be incredible. That said I have been in a few closed mines in Utah where I was guided by the current claim owners or just entered on my own. Idaho mine history is a bit different beacaue it's always been more agricultural based and mineral based like Nevada.
