Idalia National Park - 4x4 Touring Outback Queensland

Idalia National Park is 113km SW of Blackall in Outback Queensland. I explore Old Idalia hut, Wave rock, Rainbow Gorge, Murphys Rockhole, Bullock Gorge, Emmet Pocket and Monks Tank Campground. Idalia is home to a large number of the threatened yellow-footed rock wallabies, a great place to see one. Perfect for quiet camping away from the crowds. A great 4x4 Touring Outback Queensland trip to partake in.

Another great episode Brett! Always such great, well put together footage. If you wanted to know those frogs in order of appearance: Green Tree frog, Desert Tree Frog (Some calling in the distance too), Ornate Burrowing Frog, Broad-palmed Rocket Frog (the ones calling) and New Holland Frog. If you haven't already, get FrogID (by the Australian Museum) on your phone and do some recordings for them. It's a great tool, and they really appreciate the data. Super jealous you saw that last frog, and those Yellow Footed wallaby's were gorgeous! Excited for your next video already.

Thanks mate, and thanks for the ID. I don't have a frog ID book yet.. need to add one to the arsenal.. any recommendations?
@ADiscreetDeadRabbit

@@RoamingTheOutback Aus Geo just published a new one by Mike Swan and Simon Clulow in October, that covers all Australian frogs and is 'complete', for now. Or there is the Frogs of Queensland guide by Eric Vanderduys that is pretty good - it's a similar price point but easier to use as a field guide. The free FrogID app is the best for IDs off calls, but I've been using it as my field guide anyway! If you want some general frog reading, 'Frogs' (1982) by Mike Tyler is an essential, even if it is a little dated.

A nice looking park Brett,good place to go if you like your own company as I do.That area where the windmill was,and the water tank remained,well,I reckon if you dug down a little,I'm sure there'd be water,if you needed it,and the dry rock hole as well.The trees doing well,all nice and green suggests there is water not to far away. Your little oven doesn't radiate too much heat by the looks,you have it right by your bed,and nothing catches on fire?? Great to see you out and about,catch you next time😊
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 5 лет назад
Always good to be mindful where one can find water. There was another dam close by but didn't check it. Oven is warm to the touch, but never hot, so no problems with stuff igniting. Thanks.

Hey again Brett, I'm rewatching your incredible series again. Just one question; how often have you come across large spiders in your car, seat or other places you've been while on the road in the Outback? Like large huntsmen or the like of them.
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 4 года назад
No large spiders from memory in my car or tent. Most of the outback is pretty dry so maybe not too many big ones getting about currently. One big one on the ground recently near a lake.
