I agree what the hell did the american breeders do to the famous doberman...they made them look like skinny greyhounds and less intimidating....... if you want a doberman make sure it is from european stock.
Eh... It's personal preference. You can either get an American dobe or a Euro dobe. It isn't like the Euro lines are completely gone, the american lines have just decided to go a different direction. Many of the Euro have too high of drive for some people. Those who just want a pet dobie should get one from American lines and those who want a working doberman should get one from Euro lines.
both lines look different but the ability and desire to protect doesn't go away. American lines are shaped morw elegantly and stay true to the agile body. Euro lines usually always try to make the dogs look big and tough. these Euro dogs are great but don't talk about looks if they aren't what they use to be either. Euro lines are far bigger than befor and weigh alot more than they use to...this partially takes off on the agile part of the doberman which is very important.
+Paz Hernandez interesting observation. In fact, it is just the opposite of what you say. The international standards are far more true to the breed than American. With a little research you'll know what I say is true. Euro's are far less likely to fall prey to the maladies or disease that the American does. This is another feature of breed purity. The international standards, or that of the euro's is the one that stays true to the breed. The original breed is far less nervous and more adapt as a working dog. This is also the reason you don't see much for Doberman's anymore in law enforcement or military application. The American standards has leaned more toward that of the perfect pet. In truth, the American champion Dobe would have little chance of making the cut in a show against euro standard dogs. The desire to protect does not completely disappear, but the discipline, refinement of control and mood is another story. Not trying to malign the American breed standard,
2 doberman closest to camera are 100% perfection reprosentation of the doberman breed. cropped ears and docked tail look so much better. shame most countries have banned it. its a shame most kennel clubs breed thin. spindly dogs which can no longer be man stoppers. may as well get a rottweiler because these 2 perfect specimens are no longer being bred :(
THAT's REAL DOBERMANN , european dobies are the best, the true one, what a shame that americans breeders have transformed this legendary dog in a fuckin shitty skinny " thea saloon doggy" wich have nothing to do anymore with the real big guard dog from germany
They look bigger because european breeders breed their dogs larger in height, shorter in lenght and with a deeper and stronger torax, they are heavier too. But that was achieved through genetic selection, no special food nor weird tricks
Was thinking the same thing, it might actually just be good training. I've seen people use weight vests on pitbulls when working out to make them faster and stronger. Might be the case here.
these dobermann are simply the REAL dobermann as they 've been created in 1860's . heavy and massive! sadly as u proove it, actually the dobermann from USA hvae been modified a lot and have almost nothing to do with the real one from germany, that's why people ( as u) are surprise when they see a normal big dob, that's sad! the dobermann have been created to be guard dog and the european line are so much more beautiful than american wich is skinny
We should all know by now that if you want to win ANYTHING any longer, you just have to be the politically correct one in a crowd of non politically correct competitors. The dogs that are not cropped or docked just don't look as good as the others. In the U.S. we still dock and crop (thankfully) but a lot of the aggressiveness has been bred out of our dogs, along with some size. I think that guy that kept having the ball thrown to his dog may have won if he just stopped his friend from throwing the darn ball constantly. The judge even asked him to stop but they continued. In the case, the best dog did not win. The PC police are making everything not fun or fair anymore. I think I will host a competition in which all dogs must have cropping and docking done. Then maybe we will actually see a fair competition. I love these dogs though.
Simple. One of the main reasons people buy a certain breed of dog is the beauty they find in the look of that breed. If one likes the beautiful look of a cropped and docked doberman, fine. If not, look at a different breed. Personally , i have german shepherds. However, if i was ever to get a doberman, i would definitely get it cropped and docked because that is the look that i like. Otherwise, i would get a weimeraner or coonhound.

I love the doberman with the unaltered tail and ears, I used to own a doberman with undocked tail and uncropped ears, they may not be the poster children for what people think a doberman should look like but its how they're born and I wouldn't have it any other way.
where as i don't normally agree with cropping or docking (just my personal pref) the science behind the 'they feel no pain' theory is that the nerve endings in their ears and tail do not 'turn on' until about day 5 in normal dogs so if their tails are docked and their ears cropped before day 5 then they are not likely to feel pain from it. however, my argument to that is that they are still healing after day 5 and would feel the pain then once their nerve endings have 'turned on'
Psych0Mikey. Again. Another page. You will never change our minds about this. Do you think you are the first guy who has preached this to us? Do you hold on to the hope that you might be the one that finally changes our belief and turns us around? Saves us from ourselves? Come on. Stop this or go away. I suppose that if nobody, including myself engage with PsychoMikey, then he won't have anything to comment about." Go away
Wrong! If u check the latest research, there are many reasons not to spay or neuter. Dogs getting killed in the street is due to owners negligence, so your argument doesn't really hold water. Cropping and docking also has benefits and is painless when done at the correct age.
Here we go again. Another person who has nothing better to do than criticize the traditional look of the Doberman, a dog that was designed to look like this. Far less cruel than neutering or spaying. Guess what? They weren't born neutered and spayed.
i don't see that i posted anything ignorant. i asked a question and posted fact as well as opinion on docking and cropping. nothing in that is ignorant. and my question about them being guard dogs or not was a serious question.
what are you talking about he was almost perfect. only thing 'wrong' wasn't even wrong it was just different and thats the fact that his ears are unclipped and his tail not docked.
Europeans are the only ones that strayed away from the original path of any breed the least. The German Shepherd is completely gone. But maybe in the next couple of years they might be re breed . The great dane, boxer, rottweiler, and alot more. I think the doberman is the least affected.
yep German line GSDS became known as a badly beed dog because in most cases its true...not always but very often. American lines have been improving alot since 2000...their bavks aren't as sloped as they use to be and they aren't nearly as overangulated as back then...sure many dogs still look like that but about half if the American showline population has been bred out of its bad traits...many are actually even getting their working drives back
Douglas Borgaro my family hads been dedicated to this breed and ever bloodline(working and showlines ) for over 50 years and im learning everything they learned throughout that time. Everything is said actually very true. The Czech lines are like the true Gsds. They are the best gsd lines. You don't believe what i had said like many others...its ok im use to everyone saying its not true. But I've seen the changes myself...and many others have seen the changes too and have agreed that qhike American showlines aren't the best gsd and aren't perfect...they have improved alot. Look at Shereldean,Heidelberg, Keystone Gsds. Titled in herding and Schutzhund plus American and Canadian champions. German line dogs are very good with the working drive and many are health tested as good...i love out imports but as every year passes by i see that the Euro linea are getting an even more curved back while american showlines are loosing their slope. There are plenty of great German showline breeders but im talking about the bloodline as a whole...yhere are more dogs that are getting worst in this bloodline then the ones that are improving and for American lines improvement has been really high mainly in the structure
+Paz Hernandez my apologies, I was actually not trying to respond to your comment, but put my response in the wrong place. I'm not questioning your expertise. Damn cell phone!
ok so I have a 1 year old male doberman but looks nothing like these guys... is there any advice I can use to make mine look as big and muscular like these dobies?? plz reply back
Well I like it to but Where I live,,, Estonia it is against the law now to docke your dog's tail or crimpe ears.... that's why estonians buy their dobemans from Russia and Latvia.
Lol. Many doberman owners will tell you that it isn't the size. It is the beauty and the brains. beauty in many ways too not just pretty pretty. This one doberman extra large please is cute! Love it
are these supposed to be guard dogs or no, other wise i don't see why the dog who showed dog aggressive tendencies was allowed. if yes then wholly understandable.
Sorry, there's more important things in life than worrying about cropped ears and docked tails. I suggest you find something more important to do with your time.!
I have an American bred Doberman Pinscher and she looks just like these guys so dont classify all American bred ones to be puny and not a real Doberman ;)
It's probably a doberman with european stock, some breeders produce them in usa because they're passionate about the real doberman look and not the american version.
Felicia The euros do look different. Perhaps your pooch does have some euro in him. Does he have papers, do you know for sure that he's all American? There is a big difference between euros and American. This is well established with international standards.
Just because they look different does not mean it is right to state that all American Doberman's are puny and not real Doberman's. The woman I bought her from got her from the original breeder and the breeder stated she is just from American lines. The woman I got her from showed me her papers and then "sent them off to get them back in my name" I have still yet to receive them back :/
+Felicia Flinn No do not misunderstand, I am saying that the physical structure of the euros is different in general. The chest is more barrel like, and the head is more square. By FCI standards, the euros weight is calculated to be higher with greater maximum height. Not saying that it's better than the American, just different. The euro is generally more of a working dog, as in security, protection, law enforcement. That is due to American breeding. Now that doesn't mean that there aren't some exceptions with some things. Bottom line is that your a Dobe lover, which means your my kind of gal.😀
ear cropping and tail docking is illegal in Ireland as from last year! thank goodness. I have 10 year old dobie and he's a great old slob😊 when we got him at 6months old he had his tail docked but not his ears. all is left of his tail is the tiniest stump which barely moves when he ties to wag it. cropping is man made vanity. leave the dogs alone. going to miss my boy when h goes!😥
Why did you get a dobie if you don't like how they are meant to look like? Cropping their ears and docking tail is a tradition because when dobies are used in work such as protection or bitework the enemy cannot for example grab them by those long wavy ears or the long tail. When they were used for hunting in the past by first generations those animals like wild boar could have hang in their ears or tail so that's why those were cropped and docked. These things (+ breeding the personality) made the dobie to be BEST working dog in the world. However now you who refer animals as humans and think that ' thats so sad what a cruel thing to do to dock its tail ' why not fucking make it wear a fucking tutu as well? I bet it will just LOVE it. Because which dog doesnt want to look beautiful? Or how about make it wear shoes on winter so its paws won't freeze? Yeah go ahead. RIDICULOUS! Dog is a DOG and it doesn't give a fuck about having a tail or not or having its ears cropped or not. In fact if the dog could choose, it might take that few days ear ache instead of two weeks ear infection. I have heard from people that dobies who don't have cropped ears get ear infections much easier and often than those with cropped ears and it's true, because they can not get the dirt out from their ears as easy as those with cropped ears. And now those who say ' yeah if it could choose' I wonder if your puppy was given a right to choose you as their owners either? Dogs cant choose their owners either so that argument is irrelevant. If you want to be so fair towards dogs then how about let the puppies choose their damn owners? Humane as fuck!
I love both the brawn of the European Dobe and the elegance of the American Dobe. It is not good to be mainly and immodestly obsessed with the promotion of national superiority over other nations. Rather, it would be best for us to be cheifly concerned with making improvements in WHATEVER areas of improvement either of these bloodlines might need.
I think we may be looking at two different dogs. the only time i saw the winner jump on his handler was near the end, but then i was paying quite a lot of attention to the one closest to the camera man HE was my pic to win honestly. and i did say almost.
mix into his food a raw egg everyday, daily walks and exercise should help, and most of all LOVE, my 3 dobees look like this, and they are most certainly NOT EUROPEAN, well they are, but you know what I mean
A nice collection of beautiful, spirited animals. Does anyone know what country this was in? I noticed that most of the dogs were cropped and docked but I am aware that most western European nations now ban the practice. I'm guessing this is perhaps Poland or the Czech Republic?
