Brilliant! We have a boiler leaking just like this and didn't know what it was - had a gas engineer look at it and he diagnosed blocked condensate outlet, cleaned it and yep it still leaking later!. We're about to revamp our heating and hot water system and move the boiler - I may send you some pics as the house is only 25 years old but the installation looks 100 years plus! some poorly soldered gas joints under floors etc and now this so will keep it running until we have new boiler in place and then expel the whole thing and the tanks to a recycling place. Your video and explanation are just spot on and if I knew where to get the replacement part I would have our new gas engineer fit it too! Please accept my thanks for this video - GREAT JOB!

I bought an endoscope camera for a flue I wanted to look down. It connects to my phone and I can move the camera around and watch the pictures on my phone. I got it on amazon and then download an app for it. I got one with about 10 meters of cable on it and it has a light on it. It works really well did the job on the flue which was 4 meters plus long and had a couple of 45s on it. It was only £20 I think I just thought that it might help you in a situation like that when you want to check those clips at the back. Great video btw.

Thank HG another good one, I’ve only ever done the Heat Only Logic sumps, never had a Combi & I’ve looked after 100s of Logics. Of course Ideal would never fess up to a problem, however, the Logic range of boilers are very good. Easy to fit, service & repair. In the grand scale of things I’ve had very limited problems with them, but all our boilers are fitted & commissioned as per the MIs, into clean systems. Everyone bangs on about SS heat exchangers, but aluminium has a far better heat transfer rate. Thanks again fella👍
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 5 лет назад
And much bigger water ways!! However any boiler that dissolves its main heat exchanger over time isn't the best. Also I had a couple where the heat exchanger needed replacing because they were blocked on the flame path (at the bottom) causing high CO. Obviously due to lack of servicing but still annoying. Much better boilers than the last lot from Ideal. (I actually quite like them but don't tell anyone).
@TheDickPuller
@TheDickPuller 5 лет назад
HeatingGeek It’s funny HG, but when you sling Logics on a wall most days they become like old friends, you know them so well. We fit lots of Logic Combi 35s on New Builds, no BS, I fit one including 1M plus copper tails for FRHC,BO & gas in just under two hours. They’re 100 times better than the older Ideals. Unrelated, ever seen the water pressure build up on cold supplies to a Combi with a DCV on the incoming mains, holy shit!! It’s no surprise Compo hydro blocks split.
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 5 лет назад
No matter how easy you make it sound, its still graft!!! I dont think I have ever seen the pressure very high because of a double check valve. But I don't check it tbh. Just fix it and f off.
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 5 лет назад
I agree about cheap parts but thats it. Every other boiler is leaking P.O.C from a seal on the completely shite main heat exchanger. Could be the burner box to Heat x or the sump to heat x, but it will be one or the other seal failed. That trap design is also very poor. It takes way to long to remove it and clean it out. I fixed an istor last weekend after 3 visits by others. Rodent damage to harness and wire off the main NTC.
@TheDickPuller
@TheDickPuller 5 лет назад
HeatingGeek I always appear to shear the burner bolts on the older Ideals, nightmare!! But it’s probably lack of servicing. Oh God knows the Logic has its faults, but they’re great to work on. Going off on another tangent HG, do you have a Spark Plug tester in your kit of tools?? Invaluable for the Logics.

Hi. Does this problem cause the boiler to lock out with an L2/F2 fault code
@seanb-ol3up
@seanb-ol3up 3 года назад
No that's means boiler isn't getting gas, check that theres gas in the meter and beside the units it says ON, if that's ok then it could be your regulator locked out, if that's ok then check what the gas pressure is at the boiler, if there all fine could be blockage in gas valve or faulty

@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 5 лет назад
I haven't seen fumes leak from the crack but it could. If fumes leaked out it would cause poor combustion which if got into the room is deadly. The long and short of it is: it has to be fixed ASAP. If its just a hairline crack then it should be relatively safe. However you can't be sure when the crack will completely fail and be a very dangerous situation.

If you don't have a new part already for it and your earth cable which is screwed to the bottom of the boiler is in contact with water tripping out my fusebox and not being able to have central heating and hot water til the part comes and my fix has stopped it leaking I don't see what the problem is After all its not causing any more damage so no issues
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 4 года назад
If you wanted to bodge it temporally until the part came (you didn't say that though) you can just smear silicone grease (not sealant) onto the crack from the back. It lasts a couple of weeks. Using solvent cement to repair it won't work. But let's be clear you didn't say you were doing it until a part arrives.

Not disputing the fact that you are wrong However is does and has worked. In the meantime I'm ordering the part in case it starts to leak again. The problem is you can replace the part with new and it's clearly a design flaw with this type of boiler and could easily go again at any time with or without a new part
@HeatingGeek
@HeatingGeek 4 года назад
Apparently Ideal have upgraded the part. FYI solvent weld chemically melts 2 plastics together. So they become 1 (PVC/MUPVC). The plastic used in sumps has a lot of additives such as fibreglass (to make it stronger and more heat resistant) which solvent weld will not "melt" The plastic isn't the correct type and won't melt. What you have done is use solvent cement to cover over the crack like a plaster. There would be much better ways to bodge it than solvent cement is all I'm getting at. I don't care what you do, I'm just letting you know I don't think it will work. I would assume that the water will creep behind the solvent cement. I could be wrong. Just my thoughts.

@@HeatingGeek The parts not come yet but checked again today and still no leaking but good to know if the part is upgraded then will replace it anyway. Do you know why my bath tap runs colder than the others? The tap has to run slower. I was told could be the flow sensor but not sure if its the part near the pump or the the thermistor part I need? Thanks for your info and much appreciated.

@@onehandsomemuttha2423 It probably won't be the flow sensor. just figure out that the blue tap under the boiler had full on pressure so the faster I run the bath tap the colder it became.I turned the blue tap under the boiler which I think reduced the flow between the sink in the bathroom and the bath and now they both flow very hot

one contributing factor of cracked sumps could be the force required some times to remove the plastic exhaust from sump to flue outlet.
