Thank you for this video! It was so fun to watch the way you create & to hear your thought process. Prompt suggestion: steampunk animals! or mechanical animals/plants. This has really inspired me to get back into my sketchbook and even start a prompt jar of my own!

I definitely feel you about having trouble drawing people vs animals. I can draw people, but it's so much more difficult, and so much less room for error.

today I was sipping my coffee while watching your video; your videos always help me feel motivated. not just in art but it helped me get out of a funk to do some dishes instead of my partner doing them after a very long few weeks of work. Prompt idea: Animals as DnD classes - or if you feel like drawing humans - designing a human character of the Dungeons and dragons class that speaks to you the most? Lately I've been working on commission work but also a lot of personal projects. Inspiration has been hard to find since I started a physically demanding job. I'm hoping to find my balance again because I miss drawing as much as I used to

Very wonderful sketches! I like the way you use watercolors to add color at the end of the sketching process. You always inspire me and have greatly influenced the way I use watercolors and how I sketch. If you want a random little sketch idea, draw a tortoise, but the shell is a flower pot and theres flowers and other foliage pouring out the top! Just an idea ;)

I liked that whole spread you did, honestly. The critters gave me such "Over the Garden Wall" Vibes and the plant girl gave me "Hayao Miyazaki" vibes. I'm currently working on a Strathmore 500 series mixed media journal 5 x 8. For my bday I got an Etchr Hot Pressed mixed media journal Portrait style 6x8 that I'll work on next though. In my Strathmore I've been doing landscapes, fan art landscapes from Breath of the Wild, flower sketches and pattern practices. It's so fun sitting down and figuring out what I want to do next. In another journal (Canson XL) I reserve that one for character drawings and OC art. So there's at least two I have going on right now.

I feel you on the humans vs other animals thing. Humans are so much harder to me, but I also find that it's easier to draw really good looking animals that I don't see regularly or not close up, now that I think about it. I can draw recognisable dogs or cats and such, but I find my, for example giraffes, wild birds, or snails to usually look better.

I also find myself cycling through art supplies, I never go to regular pencils though, if I want thick lines I'll grab a 2.0 mm mechanical pencil. I don't know if you you use those, if not it might be worth a try. I never really sharpen mine (the did come with special sharpeners), I then just switch to a smaller mechanical pencil, keeps my tips somewhat consistent too.

I’m one of those people who think drawing animals are easier than people. I think it’s more on the structure. Like with humans (and even monkeys or apes for that matter - I don’t think I’ve ever drawn an ape) faces must be drawn a certain way or they’ll look awkward… or suffer from same face syndrome. With animals all of them kinda look the same so there’s no need to worry about making them look different - usually there’s difference in pattern, size or anything - but rarely facial structure and body proportions. I think you draw humans really well, they look very good!

Really nice idea! I´m inspired ❤ I was at Phantasialand in Germany & we saw cute little hobit houses who created a face. That´s also an idea or functional items with a personality like Beauty & the beast

I love using the colored Uni Nano Dia lead when I sketch with a mechanical pencil. It comes in .5 and .7mm and erases pretty well 😊

Pilot, pentel and uni ball all do 0.5mm and 0.7mm coloured leads in quites a few shades! Not sure if there's exactly a terracotta, but there are definitely reds!

Animals are definitely easier to draw well than people. We are hardwired by evolution to see and register human faces and their expressions. It's not just you.

I've never been too much into drawing people, but I feel like everyone needs to draw people to be a real artist... every now and again I try again to draw people but it's just not that much fun to me 😆 however people that draw strictly people struggle with drawing animals most often and they are criticised for not drawing animals... sooo my take on it (although difficult) is do whatever you want and want to be good at. People are very hard to simplify because of anatomy rules so to speak. Some rules can be broken, but not all. With animals most rules can be broken...
