There are more than 1 million independent waste workers in Indonesia, yet only about 50% waste gets collected, the rest ends up burned or sent down the river and eventually into the ocean.
Olivier Pouillon, and the team at Gringgo (Green-go) Trash Tech have created an AI-powered app, that equips waste workers with a map of customers, ability to communicate and take payment, and waste type and recycle value detection/
Gringgo Trash Tech is a grantee of Google.org’s AI Impact Challenge and received funding as well as mentorship from AI experts to help accelerate their growth to address the problem faster.

The non english speaker basically say, He is 10 years picking up trash He sick of it But if somebody dont do it, it will be piled up For the locals, he is spirited to keep doin it

Pollution is one of those topics that can make somebody depressed pretty fast. Being somebody who has cleaned up after others near beaches, it's a very overwhelming problem that seems to have no end to it. I'm so relieved that there are so many talented people who are investing in technologies like artificial intelligence to take on these challenges at scale. Thank you Google!

When trash come to our lagoon side we always throws it back to the lagoon but those trash gives on coming back to our shore because we don't have wall yet to build it but even the typhoons come it just go other side. When we see the trash gives on coming we put all in our wall even plastic and it build. Was trying to throw the plastic but when rain come it cracks the sand and fall down where water go at, than we try plastic and it's doesn't break even rain comes. We put small stone on it and when it night it shine around our home but when it full moon it night but at the back of our home is seem like day time.

That is on the collection side, but you need tech for the handling of the waste also. Most likely it is going to dump somewhere.

I was thinking.. that .. the videographer used one orange colour plastic cover for making this video. Like he put it in sea where people surfing and shoot with his awesome camera using a good angle, and he make someone to take it from the ocean and holding it in the air .. is that the same orange plastic cover? Somebody got creativity. . Anyway that plastic cover acted well in this video . . I liked him more when he was holding in air than he was floating in ocean !

Great work. In waste collection the main problem is non segregation of waste i.e. organic waste or wet waste and dry waste. With help of the AI technology we can definitely reduce the dumping yard and land fillings. And Google have potential to do it. I have an ideas for it but don't know it's viability and don't know how to present to a such big company. Please guide. #google

Waste may be a man-made problem, but it's first and foremost a company-made problem. Coca Cola, for example, is responsible for > 1% of global single-use-plastic production. We can support garbage collectors in the third world with AI - but we could also do more so that companies don't dump as much plastic into the world anymore.
