Dear tested tutor, MASSIVE SHOUTOUT AND THANKYOU! Gave my GRE today(2nd attempt) 169Q, 158V, 327 Overall Previously got 314 (148V, 166Q) As a non-native speaker, i found it really tough to do verbal section before, LITERALLY all the types of questions seemed HARD. My honest comment : You made it all better, I cannot say I became a pro, it still seems really difficult, but your take on the questions helped a LOTTTTTTTTT! THANKS AGAIN, PLEASE CONTINUE WHAT YOU'RE DOING I'll say it again, MOST UNDERRATED CHANNEL FOR GRE, guys this man needs to reach to every student possible, cause they deserve it and more IMPORTANTLY, HE DESERVES IT!

A perfect warm up before final mock test :D . Thanks Philip for your seamless efforts and amazing techniques. Alternative Way if you want to avoid fractions ;) for Q3( can be used ubiquitously) :-> Useful formula=> Work Done = Time x Efficiency LCM of 12 and 10 ------ 120 Now Dhwani takes 12 seconds , Efficiency of Dhwani = 120/12=10 Denisa takes 10 seconds , Efficiency of Denisa = 120/10=12 (which can be inferred as Denisa is taking lesser time so her working efficiency must be greater than Dhwani) Now, for 1 parcel , if they both work simultaneously , => 120/(12+10) = 120/22 For 3 parcels = (3x120)/22 = 16.36 Hope that helps ;).

Hi Philip,what is the difference between identical work rate and normal?
@dhyeyshah7541
@dhyeyshah7541 9 месяцев назад
Hey Philip. Had a doubt in Question 3. The question specifies that they are working simultaneously and independently which infers that they can work on one parcel at a time and cannot interfere in other's work. Thinking logically, at time 0s they start labelling. The target is to label 3 parcels. Denisa completes at 10s and starts working on the next as she's faster in labeling than dhwani. So her labeling will end at 20s. By that time dhwani would completed labeling her first parcel in 12s. So the least time to complete labeling of 3 parcels should be 20s. What are your thoughts on this approach?
@iowacla55
@iowacla55 6 месяцев назад
I agree. It's a qualitatively different task from painting walls. He should have used painting or mowing instead if he wanted to illustrate the usual work-rate method.

In first question there are 6 machines, are they working at same time or in sequential order . As per question I think they are sequential.

in Q3: wouldn't solving 60/11 first and then multiplying by 3 yield the same result as solving 180/11... it doesnt make a difference if you convert or not at the first place before multiplying by no of parcels

10:45 it isn't told that working together told that working simulataneously anf independently. Therefore it should take 20 mins - at 10 min -1st by at Denis 12 th min 2nd by Dwani and at 20th min 3rd by Denis again. feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Hey, Philip sorry that this is unrelated to the video. Just wanted to get your attention. I have been using your strategy of slow reading and fast answering for the verbal section and it does work for me. But I am not able to stop myself from re-reading to understand the sentences better. Is that okay? Coz I am in a dilemma, and my GRE is in a day. I am aiming for a 155V. I got 154V in PP2.

@anastasiastevens8999 Год назад
Hello! Thank you for your video. I've been watching all of your Quant videos for several days preparing myself for the exam. However, I do not quite understand example 3. So Dhwani and Denisa work independently, right? As we can see, Denisa is faster. So it will take Denisa 10 seconds for the first parcel and 12 seconds for Dhwani for the second parcel. Since they work independently, Denisa will be the first to finish labeling the third parcel (20 seconds). Because if we talk about real things. I understand that at this point of 16 seconds that we'll complete some percents of their work that would add up to 100 making it the third parcel. But if we look at the parcels at this point, we cannot say that they have labelled 3 parcels in total. I hope that everything that I have written is understandable.
@TheTestedTutor
@TheTestedTutor Год назад
It's not about when they independently finish a third, it is when they combined finish that third parcel. So after 12 seconds there are like 2.2 parcels done total. In the next 4 seconds about 0.7 parcels are done (adding their rates together). So to the nearest second it takes 16 seconds. I get what you are saying but this question assumes you can fractionally label something. :)

In the 2nd last question, it said they worked simultaneously and independently. So shouldn’t it take 20 seconds for them to complete? As the first lable was done in 10 sec and 2nd is done 2 sec later by the other person as they were working *simultaneously and independently*. Assuming no time wasted in between the 3rd label should have been done after 8 more sec by the person who did his first labeling in 10 sec?

Denisa can label 2 parcels in 20 seconds. Within that twenty second time frame Dhwani can complete one parcel and have 8 seconds free time. Thus, at the end of 20 seconds you will have 3 parcels labeled. How am I misunderstanding the question?
