Excellent video probably one of the best tutorials I've seen on RU-vid on any given subject. Unfortunately my transmission appears to be a rebuilt 2006 47RHM. (4 Gears, 7 Capacity Rating, Rearwheel Drive, Hydraulic control, MUTT!). But with the help of your video thank you guys I'm going to make a checklist so I can at least figure out what components are what year and that way I can begin fixing it (somebody put thumb tacks in it my transmission fill line!!)

Great info, maybe in the future or when you do converter 101, talk about adding some stall speed to help with spool up time in a 500 to 700hp daily driver, and please if you dont agree with that theory, why, you guys do a great job with all your videos.

December 02 was the last month of regular production 47re, but you are right that Dodge used some left over spares. I have an 03 3500 DRW federal emission truck and it is a 47re.

You guys are badass, if I had more money I would ship my truck out there. I really do like the power but, I can not do it with out the mileage. Maybe 400 with at least 20mpg. Could I do that? It's a2001 short four wheel drive with the 47re and maybe 353 or 354 gears. 330,000 miles. I really like it. I adjusted the valves for the first time at a little over 300,000 and none of them were more than 5 thousandths out. What can I do a little at the time? There are a few different pump gear sizes which affect the pump application as well.

My 94 2wd 47re hunts for OD going in and out at steady rpm on flat ground at 60mph. Everything else seems fine with it. What should I look for? Ppump linkage or the 3 pin connector?

At the moment I have a Dodge NV4500 mounted to my 2nd Gen Cummins in a 1987 Chevy K20 with 3.42 diff gear ratio with stock GM size tires! My question is the NV5600 or G56 better for highway use than my current transmission or would I be better off with a NV5600 or G56 ???

5:10 I got a 1994 dodge 12 valve that used to have a 47rh, the bell housing has 238-1 stamped on it.

I'm that 'hot rodder' guy that didn't want to go manual valve body on a 47re. got a stock computer, but not entirely sure which signal is the one that allows 123 shifts. Any feedback is appreciated. All 8pins connected, but not VSS or TV cable yet. Lockup and OD are working on switches, but goint to install a pot switch for lockup.

Ok so I have a 2004 early 305 hp 4 wheel drive is it a 47 or a 48 from the factory. I'm planning to biuld it to your 650 rhwp. Kit and am going to need to know it know has 120k on it hard towing still in good shape running 35" tires. 3:73 gears pretty tall gears but right were it likes to tow. Hello!!! I have a question!!! I have a problem with my 94 ram 2500 5.9 diesel!! I change the transmission twice, I charged the wire harness all transmission oil lines, transmission cooler!!! And my mechanic checked the pcm and he said it's working fine!!! But my truck still not charge gears!!! There is any other computer under the dash there i have to replace!!!

I have a 2005 diesel ram in the shop, the customer put a older transmission in it and the plugs won’t work. They need to smog it for California. What can I do to get rid of the codes to smog ? Will the new sensors fit? Do i need to change the harness and ecm?

I have 47rh, definitely sure, yet I just recently was driving and slowly but surely, the trans started to NOT upshift to the point that it's not moving from first to second! It was driving fine, then it just started kicking out of gear on street speed 40 and lower also my speedometer stopped showing the proper speed. Question is ....Is it the converter ? It goes in gear when it wants but no lock up and does reverse but tends to grip then slip.

Wow, thanks guys! Super helpful. Here's a mystery for you. I bought what was advertised as a 47rh 4x4 core a while ago. It has the long tail housing of a 47rh, the pre-98 neutral safety switch and the 3 pin control plug for the value body, but the bell housing is stamped 238-1. Do I have the rarest 47rh ever or could it be that a rebuilder put a 47re bell housing on a 47rh?

Curious on a 2002 4wd what would be the best transmission for a solid tow rig build. Not racing but want to build a solid tow rig.

So my 2003 transmission bell housing says 238-6 has the round 8 pin plug and with the big 5 pin neutral indicator. So is it a 47re or 48re?

I havge a 1999 ram 2500 with the 24v. The trans bell housing code says 238-3. All of the plugs point to a 47re but the number code being 238-3 confused me. I guess my question is with that number and the plugs do you think i have a 47re?

You left out the quickest and absolute surest way of telling the two wheel drive 47 from the 48re tail housing. If you don't have the two side-by-side to compare and don't have all the differences in memory the quickest way to tell without having side-by-side comparisons would be the 48re is lacking a mounting point at the tail shaft section of the transmission. The 47th clearly have bosses with screw holes readily available to add a mount to that location
