Another quick tell is to drop the item onto a hard surface and listen to the sound that it makes. Pewter has a very dull, flat, dampened sound when compared to a silver plated base metal like copper, nickel or steel.

Very soft!

Tin is a metal of antiquity. Where I personally most saw it, was as an HVACR installer in the early 80s. At one time, probably more than 60 years ago, ductwork was commonly formed from tin sheet. The original insulation around it that I usually saw, was corrugated asbestos. Looks exactly like cardboard, but grey in color. Bronzes by the original definition was copper/tin alloy, but analysis of ancient bronze objects shows it usually contained other metals in small quantities. Today "bronze" might be any number of alloys, even aluminum bronze.

Great feedback on the bronze part of it.

I'd can't believe I'd forgotten to mention my favorite things a about pewter earlier while watching this. One is the affordability of it. Two is that fantasy artists make the best dragons and other beasts using this medium. Three is that I enjoy carving at it like it's a piece of wood with zero grain.

Pewter is excellent for casting with. It has a low melting point and it’s easily workable.

@@iScrapApp It is widly used on antique fire arms .A well done cast , pewter fore end cap and pistol grip caps are just sexy as hell on a 1874 shilo sharps or Remington rolling block

Some solder has silver in it. Is it worth messing with ? Like silver solder, and silflos ?

The use of lead in pewter was outlawed after 1974 in the US and 1994 in Europe. Does your Olympus XRF analyzer work on gold?

@@iScrapApp How much is scrap for English pewter and German pewter? Is it lower than brass? Or lower than iron? I hear pewter is only worth $0.30/pound?

That they continue to use lead in plumbing is something to be concerned about.

@@iScrapApp plastic is no solve tho. From it you get estrogen or some ridiculous chemical that actually works against men's baby batter in at least two ways. Drops the numbers produced and stupefies or retards what's still made. This is no joke.,

what is the best way to get the lead out? To refine pewter?

Generally grinding it up and sorting from there.

@@iScrapApp So what is the price range for pewterware in $US in 2022? Let's say lower grade pewter 70-90%? I just can't find the price on any scrapyard sites.

Yeah. That scanner must cost $1million, and require regular calibration/maintenance with the manufacturer. It would not be something scrap pickers can afford to buy and maintain.

Where can I sell my pewter for hundreds of dollars? I have about 60lbs of pewter ware and I just heard it is only worth $0.30 per pound as scrap.
@steamboatmcg2197
@steamboatmcg2197 3 месяца назад
@@Macky1101 you should get at least $3 per pound as it's 90+% tin and tin fluctuates around $10 a pound. Don't confuse tin the metal with what scrapyards commonly call "tin" or "shred" which is low grade steel.
