Pricing fluctuates so we'd rather not give a specific number as by the time you watch this video prices may have moved. Check our price pages to stay up to date: iscrapapp.com/metals/yellow-brass/
XRF analyzers are specialty tools typically used by scrap yards. Unfortunately they're prices in the tens of thousands of dollars, so they likely aren't going to be used by scrappers any time soon
I took in extruded aluminum and verified that it was extruded. After they weighed and emptied the cart, they changed it to clean aluminum. I talked with the owner and let's just say I won't be taking my extruded there again.
I brought in about 90lbs of clean copper aluminum radiators to my local scrap yard, when I got home, I looked at my ticket and they only gave me 5lbs for it. Yes, my bad for not checking my ticket, lesson learned. When I called them, they said yes, we saw you unload a lot of copper/alum radiators, but we can't see the weight so there's nothing we can do. Another trip to the same scrap yard in Charlottesville, VA they dumped about 40lbs of number 2 copper in my tub of number 1 copper, about 35 lbs. When I said hold up that was 1 copper, they started pulling out my number 2 copper and saying, "seeing it's number 2". The new scrap yard give me a ticket before I cash out to see the weight and how much, the old one in C-Ville, you didn't know till you got to the pay window. My new yard is how things should work. Needless to say, I don't go there anymore.
I'm not sure how you can get steel into a copper ingot seeing as it floats on molten copper. But water? I can't say I've ever seen water mix very well with anything over 100 degrees Celsius, let alone 1083 degrees!
Yes, you can. You can also use water displacement to measure the volume of the gold, and then weigh the gold to see if the weight is correct. If the gold isnt 24K, you may have to look up the mixtures of the Karat and do a little math
I have a question a plumber put in a new water service for me replacing the input which was galvanized steel he used high pressure couplings and he said the copper he was using was a much better grade I forget what he called it but it was a different color yellow it was like industrial or something I believe they were both 100% copper I don't know what the difference was but I paid more money.
There are different types of copper pipe and tubing, some are annealed to make the copper more flexible, and some of them are tempered to make them more impact resistant. All the pipes are ~99% copper, but some have thicker walls for different applications. I'll list the types of copper pipe from thickest to thinnest for you K, L, M, and DWV. Also, copper is really bright when its cleaned and new, it turns darker and darker over time. I dont know if that explains the color difference for your situation or not though Edit: I forgot to mention there is a sub-type called ACR, its the same as type L, but it comes filled with nitrogen and is capped on both ends
Personally i dont even bother taking dishwashers anymore, if its been a slow day I may stop and check for copper and brass pieces, cut the wires off and check the motor to see material but i never take the whole unit
@@susanward241 you can use an XRF analyzer on nearly anything that fluoresces when hit with ionizing radiation. I’ve used them extensively as a PMI tech in the Oil and Gas industry.
Seems like so much triple handling in scrap copper to many middlemen sorting this from that when an chemical electroplating set up would take the lot and make 100% copper and sort all the other metals much like copper mines do to make it in thee first place
In a debt based untethered to real money fiat system, price discovery of metals is always an adventure with the reality of a federal reserve. What can untethered to anything currency buy is a crap shoot at best so I just spend wisely.
By removing some of the stuff like the metal trays , the heating element , electric motors and bits of brass that dishwasher becomes dirty stainless steel worth more than light iron . Sorry Thom to disagree with you , but it doesnt take long to do it to increase profit . Keep up the good work. God bless y'all.
Beginner scrapper here, quick question, roughly what is the difference in $ when stripping n not stripping that kind of wire. If you strip will it really be worth 5x more?
Bro what you should do to be more friendly to us viewers, is pause the video that you're watching so we can hear/know what's going on. Sure, I could go watch his video, and then pause it every time just to listen to your reaction, but you're talking over him dude. I'd like to hear both sides of the spectrum here so I can get a better understanding.
My take is if you are going to sell recovered metals to scrapyards, do it in raw form. Aluminum cans are aluminum cans, and to them, they can bake it all without question. Ingots means they have to cut the stupid thing open to verify that it is what it is. If one is planning to use recovered metals for their own casting projects, then by all means make it into ingots. Trash bags of aluminum cans is not pleasant to have around, takes up space and is a pain to store and move, compared to ingot form. It is also easier to melt down for casting as well. (I am aware that soda can aluminum is not casting grade for machine usable parts such as engine components or anything structural so don’t @ me. I grow tired of negative replies regarding the matter instead of offering options and solutions to make such aluminum more usable.)
Please tell me what the magnet will do to tell the difference in the windings? A hot water heater i think you did one in the past, or a glass top stove. Either one would be great.
