If I'm understanding correctly, you'd use the cos rule.

If you have no angles, then you need to use the inverse trigonometric function to find the angle. You still need to identify the two sides that are part of the question and use those. Careful with A level maths though, because they're likely to not be right-angled triangles, so you might need to use the sine or cosine rule rather than the regular trig methods in my videos.

Assuming I've understood what you mean correctly, then you can choose which to use, as long as you're consistent throughout the question.

In these examples, the question has given it.

Presumably you'll have been asked to find one of the angles? If that's the case, then you use that unknown angle you've been asked to find :)
