Same as a Somali person. The rapid adoption of a conservative interpretation post civil war has been jarring especially as a woman. The AlShab. group has harmed so many. Their 2009 target of a medical school graduation in Mogadishu was especially devastating. There goes future doctors and their professors. Some of these mothers and fathers worked in the scorching heat to pay for their schooling. People in the West did harsh jobs to send money back home. We needed doctors there so badly. Worst of all, these groups are funded by the same oil rich people that are protected.

Oh Tim Tim Tim, Charley, u have done it again!! 😢😢😢 U made me cry, and still yelling at my screen, becos it felt like My "wear Ghana" younger sister, was taking all my words out of my brain. I've been trying to say her same words to the youth of Ghana forever, but the brainwash is so deep, and it frustrates me that, they don't really think or understand what I'm saying to them, to help them understand their futures and privilege!

It must begin with the social studies curriculum. It should be inclusive of pre-colonial, colonial and post colonial history. This should be taught from primary school across Africa.
@josephineamawiafe9428
@josephineamawiafe9428 10 месяцев назад
Colonial history cannot be out of our curriculum! The reason why we are where we are today as a continent is because of colonialism! We have not as a people been able to take the time and evaluate the effects of that history! Why it happened, what the effects were and how it is still affecting our lives daily! And I mean daily! Till today! Africans are not interested in geopolitical affairs! How much the west still controls our affairs to their advantage! So colonial history is important to us! We cannot on a single day dismiss what our forefathers endured and the aftermath been played out daily through puppet leaders!

I so agree with the Ghanaian pastor regarding the definition of success. Success is not material things. Peace is success, a sound mind is success, having love is success. Having money or material things is NOT success. We as black people around the globe need to understand what is really true success and stop competing and comparing with one another. In the US some of the most miserable, spiritually and emotionally bankrupt people are society’s definition of success.

Tim this video is so touching. I’m one of your biggest fan by the way as I’m young like you, educated, black and powerful, but most importantly black excellence. What I have to say is that I am an Asante, I was born in Ghana and left African shores when I was 8 years old to live in the UK with my whole family. I’m now a qualified lawyer, now 40 years old, I’ve not forgotten my African self. I’ve invested back home as much as I can. I did my DNA 🧬 and realised that I’m only 50% Ghanaian, I’m literally West Africa from Mali, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Nigeria. Most importantly, I have traced my ancestors to the Americas and I have cousins as close as 5th-8th cousins who are African Americans and Carribean people whom obviously do not know me and probably never will. We are the same people, so we should just love ourselves.

It's beautiful that we are having this dialog. It's a sign that we have entered a new season. 9/10th (if not 10/10th) of the planet as we know it, has been colonized. For this to have happened the process of colonizing the mind and affecting our spirit, co-opting the land and resources has thrown all of us off balance. So in this season of awakening, the dichotomy of say the descendants of African's in America for centuries under the colonizers and our present day Africans on the continent under the colonizers will naturally have conflict, disparities that needs to go through the process of uncolonizing the mind, spirit and just as importantly the land. All entities are connected, one. In my opinion we must be in the mindset and spirit of being patient with one another. The colonizer were successful in their mission in part because they had patience. It was over generation and generation they achieved this feat. Let's stay uplifted family Knowing that we will come back into balance and Harmony. The nature of all things, of love and good and strength are who we are and on our side. This is the nature in which the planet and the universe is created. All Thanks and Praises are due to The Most High. from the author of the book: TRYIN TIMES from the Pyramids to the Projects

OUR education by parents and guardians is of the highest importance. My mother raised me & my siblings to know WE were Kings & Queens. "You sold them"😢 Tim, I do understand the position of the Ghanaian lady but to make such a blanket statement of Africans' complicity in the slave trade is most unfortunate! The true history and facts betray that position. When you have just about one percent of so-called African slave sellers, it is dangerous to create the impression that all Africans were just selling each other into slavery. That also undermines the numerous wars and resistance our ancestors put up against the slavery enterprise. It's almost akin to entirely blaming the Jews for the Holocaust because Hitler's security capos used to oppress the Jews were actually Jews themselves; we hardly hear that argument, dont we? What we need to note is that, the slavery was a complex enterprise that had no benefit whatsoever to any group of Africans compared to the actual enslavers and that's a fact! One thing we all have yet to explore is the fact that Africans at home are yet to also have a closure from the trauma slave trade brought home. Great conversation all in all...let it continue!!!
@josephdonald1765
@josephdonald1765 10 месяцев назад
I agree with a lot of what you said, but to minimize african slave sellers to 1% is not a genuine statement. We have to be honest with history regardless of how it may make our ancestors look. The European didn't run that whole system with just 1% help from africans. Overall, I understand your point. This is not an attack.
@py20
@py20 10 месяцев назад
@@josephdonald1765 What would you say is the more accurate percentage? Fact is, the vast majority of the African people had absolutely no part in the exchange. If anything, they rather suffered in various ways. I understand the need to acknowledge Africans' complicity in the tragedy of slavery but let's not exaggerate that or get things twisted. This unspeakable evil was orchestrated by Europeans for the benefit of Europeans.

Honestly I hate hearing that too. And to think this’s What most white People use as defense for all the the Atrocities they did to our ancestors that is affecting us till date. Africans don’t just need to know their History through reading Books, but also try to travel within the Continent if they have the means, so they can really relate with the Identity Crisis and miseducation spread across the Continent. We have a long way to go, especially with our education system.

georgenankor9688 She referenced her people specifically, and also as far as central and west africa is concerned, there was definitely a lot of selling. That's how people traded things sometimes, a person for a gun, there's no reason to deny the truth. If you have enemies in war selling them for fabrics, guns or other materials doesn't seem that crazy because you were just killing each other not long before that. There was also no collective african identity or black identity contrary to what some people now want to portray

This was deep. If your are a black African, you must read Deuteronomy 28. Start with verse 30

This was a great listen. Would love to see a follow up to this in some sort. I think the discussions about religion and creating a “paradise” in Africa are particularly fascinating. Much love from the USA. Keep up the great work, Tim ✊🏾

Tim. I loved this. First, where are you? Is this library bookstore accessible to the public? 2. I shared this with 3. people before I finished this and thinking about sharing this with some more. 4. This opens the door not only on who we are as a group but also on introspection of our individual self. How messed up we are with are thinking. Why can't we seem to get on board and fix something s for ourselves? I'm speaking in terms of small things? And stick to it? This was excellent. I hope to see more of this. Nit just talk but action. Just thought of four more people to send this to. We are human beings. ♥️

My favourite saying after more of these frustrating convos, "We are human beings, for God's sake! When are we ever going to start behaving like one!" We desperately and seriously NEED to start helping ourselves, take care of ourselves, looking after ourselves, one little thought executed at a time! At least we know what was done, what has been done, what continues to be done, therefore, what not to do, and what to do, so what and who are we waiting for?! Goodness help us!

Great video! We can't sit around waiting for our oppressors to teach us our history to us. We have to teach ourselves and our children. We owe it to ourselves and the future generations. I really enjoyed the 2 younger people's thoughts. I agree with both of what they were saying 100% We need more people like them to speak up and make changes.

This was a worthwhile watch. I liked your panel. Sometimes I think that African people can be too grounded in a romantic past. Africans may have some common affinity but often there persists tribal divisions and a greed for what the West (or East) offers. I did not hear any talk of deliberate outreach for trade with the diaspora. Making it less costly for example. Tim, you should consider a Zoom sign-up meeting with the diaspora. In order to facilitate discussion, you may have to limit attendance and set some ground rules...

My thoughts exactly. We really need to start turning things around seriously. The damage needs to be undone in any little progressive way that we can, together!!

louverture905 They will have to be very selective on who they allow to speak and respectfully decline others if they insist. Some people just spoil or muddy conversations. We need clear conversations

Does anyone know the setting of this … a library? Does anyone know who the man is (white hair) in the picture that is on the shelf directly above and slightly to the right of Tim’s head?
