I used to play Gardener before but because of what people think of her, I had to quit playing her at some point. When I'm playing rank if I pick Gardener, they would say ''I will not rescue you'' or ''Are you joking? Don't play her she's trash.'' etc. I really get offended. But still, I love Emma no matter what. Now, I pick Gardener even if it means I will play by myself and my team is going to ignore me and not rescue me. I'm playing this game because I want to have fun. It's pointless if I'm not playing the character I would like to play. I'm good at playing her and her rework is not that bad. Her shield is really useful if you get pursued first. And ''Confidence'' is really good too while you're kiting the hunter. I don't get people who says ''Gardener/Embalmer/Lawyer/... is trash!'' because it really depends on the person who plays them. It's good to know that there are people out there who actually appreciate Gardener.
Ikr! If you can play a character really well, I don't see why you aren't allowed to play as that character. If you really love to play as Emma, then go ahead and play as her! It's sad that people will judge others and be toxic... Games are for people to have fun and they should have freedom to choose which character they want.
When I play gardener. I first decode, once cipher is done , I move to next cipher. Whenever i encounter a nearby chair, i break it first. When hunter is carrying a survivor and going to a chair and you are near it, i immediately destroy the chair so that the hunter will put down survivor and fixed the chair. This gives a little bit of time for the survivor to struggle free and other survivors to decode/ rescue. When hunter let go of survivor far from chair and it got fixed, i go and destroy it again (its like im trolling the hunter).
That's pretty much how I play Gardener ^ ^ Though, I'd be careful with that last one. You could try break the chair after the hunter fixes it, but if the hunter tries to chase you, you should get away just in case the hunter injures you. So, you can still rescue your teammate safely with full health.
I understand that Gardener is not useless when she was use by good players. People said the same things with Embalmer and Lawyer as well. But i have been matched with those who plays them very good. I even use her when there's already a Mercenary in the team. But one thing i don't like about some Gardener's players. It's that they keep focusing on breaking chairs instead of decoding. They forget that some hunter can go to their location very fast (WuChang, Bloody Queen, Mad Eye with his walls,...) or keep breaking chair could accidentally bring hunter to nearby teammates as well. And if they still not good at kitting and get caught early game then hunter will have a very high change of winning the match. So i see why alot of players don't like Gardener. She sometime could be very annoying to have as teammate if she's in the hand of those who don't know how to use her skills correctly or just want to be toxic.
I agree. Especially in rank, focusing on decoding is very important since it needs to be done as quickly as you can. With Gardener's current state, there's only a slim chance of your teammates escaping, so players should definitely be decoding more than breaking chairs. I guess it's acceptable in Quick match since people can experiment stuff there. But definitely not Rank.

But the good players i meant here are people who are not toxic, and take the gameplay seriously, people who are trying their best no matter how good or bad at the game they are. If you thought i mean by high level of skill then no. I'm also not very good at this game so who am i to say to other that they need to be master of the game to play.
The good thing about gardener was that she forced hunters to equip abmormal just in case they needed to use it. Now, they don't. Therefore, her item will work in few situational ocassions. Making time for a survivor to struggle free is very hard. I'm kinda sad with her rework :( I only play gardener in 2vs8 because without a useful item, I feel kind of vulnerable
Personally, I think her rework is okay. As a hunter who doesn't have Trump Card, I really hate it when I have to slug survivors. But I think the devs really need to put a 20-40 second cooldown every time the hunter fixes a chair. That way, it would still give a chance for a survivor to struggle free without making it too miserable for the hunter.
I feel like the old Gardener was too OP since I couldn't fix chairs(unless I equipped abnormal and I'd rather use blink) so I just left the survivors to bleed. I think the rework for her is ok... But I agree with the cool down until hunter can fix chair.
Thanks for the tips ! I’m a main Gardener and honestly I really liked the old Gardener more but with the new Gardener it’s not that bad. I still win in rank and focus on decoding instead of breaking chairs. But I think her kiting still is way better than before if a chair is nearby. And I don’t care about what other people say to her I pick her in rank and I still managed to win 😌

how would u imagine a animation of a hunter fixing a chair for 12-15 seconds?! i say they can repair the chairs after the protection bubble of the gardener popped or that they walk slower when repaired a chair.
I hate the fact that when hunters fixing a chair they don't have a process bar. Aka the bar there is when ur decoding and stuff Also her shield is low key useless since hunters WILL avoid you when they see you with ur bubble (it is very useful on BJ) Other than that im happy with emma
nah if u time the shield good the hunter will hit the shield instead of u (like Eli's owl), buying you more time. the shield also wastes hunter's time if they just wait the shield out allowing the kite to be longer & ur teammates to decode quicker
Also try to find a decoder as fast as possible because if you don’t decode in a few 90 seconds or so, the hunter will get a alert and when you break a rocket chair no do not decode one near a rocket chair because it will be alerted by the hunter or just hide
Hello yall! 2020/2021 person here! anybody happy abt her shielf buff? I certainly am, even though Gardener is a kiter I keep on getting "Rescue Master".. Anyways im so happy NE did that rework and im extremley happy because i bought her deduction skin!
my tactic is to destroy all chairs and later when Hunter fixes one, I destroy them again so survivor which is on balloons can run away ;D it's a waste of Hunter time
ilovesatan that only work in lower rank, in high rank hunter can located you right away and focus you down first. You could have kitting potential but others with self-defense skill is better, like echantress, priestess, mercenary,... In the match if you r too focus in dismantling the chair you will loose your focus in decoding which is the main goal. I prefer the old emma, because you can do sth i called the "perfect trap" by almost fully dismantling the rocket chair. This way I won't get debuff and i can break chair super fast. Overall, emma is mediocre and neutral like lucky guy, not bad but not great either
ilovesatan if you do that more than 1 time, hunter will focus you down first because you are being pain in the butt for them. And if you didn't see it coming you will get chair right way
Hi, here to share some stuff (dont listen to them) Since im a nev idv player, i dont have that much survivors yet, just the classics. And i personnaly use gardener most of the time, because she is the only one im good at using ;w;. Anyway tips time, when i get in game I usually just start decoding, dont really focus in breaking chairs. I only break chairs if hunter is near me or if there are rocket chairs near each other, if theres a hunter chasing me, i try running in different paths and try kiting (yes lol) even though im not really good at it xd
I mainly play gardener cause I LOVE having the hunter on me... and also trolling players by destroying all nearby rocket chairs while they're carrying a survivor is extremely fun
I've heard people say Gardener is good because early game is the most important part of a match, and Gardener can't die early game. On top of that, she has veterans bonus and situational vaulting buff. But even with all these perks, I still don't see her being a preferred choice in high level play, she only gets utilized when all the other (and better) characters are banned out of the equation. It's a shame, Gardener is meant to be a beginner's character after all.
Yeah, unfortunately, the nature of Gardener's abilities aren't the best for high tiers. People have already stuck with the usual but safe such as Merc, Seer, Mech, etc. Nevertheless, she's still fun and cute to play as in Quick Match.

Well I wouldn't recommend this but when the game first starts I always hide. and when my team mates getting chased them I break the chairs and the reason why I always hide when the game starts is because I don't want to be found first.
It depends on you. If you think you're confident enough to kite and you're at a good kiting spot, then you could start breaking chairs to alert the hunter, especially since you've got your bubble as an extra protection. I'm not confident enough in my kiting skills, so I also don't break chairs first, haha.
my tips for gardener: Tip 1 (only works if you have any survivor that has snooze or a trait which makes chair time longer): while decoding a cipher near a rocket chair. dismantle it so your coordinator or merc on your team can survive more and kite more. Tip 2: if injured. break all nearby chairs incase the hunter catches you and chairs you. (this is so your teammates can have more time to cipher rush and rescue you.) Tip 3: if your team needs urgent kite. then kite near a rocket chair so you can take advantage of your traits. Tip 4: if against a hunter with range attacks then use your bubble to protect any damage. Tip 5 (not exactly a tip but a plan incase yours dont work): If your decoding in early game and the hunter comes near and your bubble is still available. kite as much as you can. this increases the chance for a win. after kiting and the hunter stops chasing you. break any rocket chairs around you to give your team more time to decode ciphers. in end game. kite the hunter so your team can rescue anyone who is on a chair. Thats All! Hope these tips help you improve more at gardener.

I think old gardener was better being able to break the chairs that are really hard to save from or have no kiting areas nearby were very good to break and made the hunter have to take more time to chair a survivor if they kited near broken ones. And if a hunter brought abnormal that meant no blink to end a chase and no teleport to find the decoder. Now shes not very good slightly usable but I’d rather have a kiting ability rather than just 10% extra vaulting speed.
Old Gardener was also good but what I like about new Gardener is that hunters can still fix chairs even if they don't bring Abnormal/Trump Card. I really hated that I had to slug survivors. However, I think the devs should really put a cool down for every chair the hunter fixes (maybe 20-40 secs?). That way, Gardener can still help her teammates to struggle free or at least waste hunter's time.
Lady Belles-lettres Rage and giant claw made it possible to basement them since if you are slugging people and nobody has exit path left then you should have time to get to a far away chair since gardener wouldnt be decoding but I think that not being able to repair the chair right after its broken would be very good it’d make her into a kiter and increase the usefulness of sticker and will to survive.
Oh and it hides the chair aura which if its not in immediate sight the hunter has a chance to go to a normal spawn point when a chair isn’t even there shes OP on white street asylum for this perk
Gardener is used alot now. She is not toxic anymore for VERY PRO PLAYERS coz one thing that made her somewhat meta is she can secure you that 60 secs kite
I run BW with BT because I like to kite with her. Another thing I like to do is dismantle chairs near kiting spots so that the other players can have more time to struggle free, and if I'm lucky, I can dismantle chairs near a downed survivor before the hunter gets them.
I rack up the most points when I use gardener. Just go around decoding and breaking chairs. She’s also decent in mobility which is a plus. Prolly gon use her till I save up for a Seer.
Heyhey this is a really good tip, however as a soon to be gardener main i normally left my cipher at 50% and went destroying all nearby chairs (excluding basement), that way the cipher is indeed neglected but if the hunter hasnt chase anyone yet i would finish it but if the hunter hit someone or is currently being kited i would left the cipher mid progress to find another cipher and rocket chairs near the person who is downed, that way even if i didnt bring tide or its too late for me to rescue i can cause disruption for the hunter making all the attention goes to me and the rescuer to rescue without getting noticed. Although i basically also dont count as decoding so my teammates kinda struggle with cipher rush and im over here causing disruption and annoying the hunter when its unnecessary ;^;
I use gardener as an kiter/ lasy hope cause if you break the rocket chair and then. If the player struggles enough to get almost out when the hunter puts them down and fix it when they get back on they will be free

Gardeners, (from a gardener main), stop dismantling every rocket chair you see, especially if there is someone decoding nearby. The hunter can see Gardener when she dismantles chairs
Make it so she can fix broken pallets. And make the first 2 chairs she breaks unfixable and her immunity only go active when the hunter first goes near you so she doesn't waste it . Of course her immunity would only be a one time thing though

A-Troller-On4Chan only work when hunter is far away, there's no other chair around, hunter is jack with rosecane or geisha with the reluction hug (they both have hug effect so the can't hit you)

If it's just the starting of the game. Yep. Don't break chairs first because the hunter will notice you. But if the hunter is occupied with another survivor, you could try breaking chairs. You could also fix the cipher machine first just in case the hunter tries teleporting towards you.

N in higher rank emma has a slim chance because of her lack of self-defense like other. Like how a tool kit can save u from hun. In higher rank everyone just gave up on emma and pick others
