I was the one in this video on the exercise machine, I had IPF for 10 years, and went downhill in 2015, after 5 weeks on the wait list I received 2 healthy lungs. I thank my donor everyday for her gift of lungs. Excellent doctors , nurses, respiratory technicians, a lot of wonderful people.
I am 65. I am diagnosed with IPF. Apparently I have had it since from a lung biopsy 10 years ago. All I was told was I do not have lung cancer. My present doctor got the records from 10 years ago. She informed me that I have IPF and to prepare a "Living Will". She got my attention.
My dad was 60 diagnosed August 21 2017 with IPF, sadly he lost his battle to IPF December 18 2018. He was 61. R.I.P. daddy I love you & I'll miss you dearly. 😢

Doctors, when we don't know what it cause the disease, we have to think always about food and about what the patient is eating and drinking! They are very often the cause!
Im thinking more of our body attacking the weakest organ in our body? Which in my case were my lungs, i got pneumonia and after a few rounds of antibiotics my left lung was not the same, like a heaviness, after a year of testing i had to have an open lung biopsy and it was discovered i had end stage ipf. Over the years it spread over to my right lung, resulting in a double lung transplant 😊. Most times its environmental
My husband was diagnosed with IPF. He fell ill on the 16th July 2016, and we went to the hospital and they gave him a chest x-ray. The doctor said that there was scarring on his lungs, and to see a pulmonologist. On the 21st July he was admitted into hospital, put on oxygen, given all kinds of test, and was there for 10 days, before a diagnosis was confirmed. My greatest fear at the time of him becoming ill was that he had cancer, and when IPF was diagnosed, my first reaction was of relief, it wasn't cancer. My husband passed away on the 8th August 2016, he was 57 years of age.
i can understand how you feel and your concern i have developed a cough that hasn't gone away for over 6 months i had 3 courses of antibiotics and still its there i haven't been tested so its rather hard to say my mothers IPF was genetic so i'm guessing i may have very early symptoms i know i should have it checked but i'm afraid i'm 46 and have one child who is 18 i smoke and so did my mother but the specalist said its not caused by smoking and has nothing to do with smoking its genetic i'm deeply sorry for what you are going through and your 3 girls my thoughts and prayers are with you
I had a cousin (on my mothers side) that died in 1975 of cystic fibrosis and my father died of pulmonary fibrosis almost 2 years ago. I am a non smoking, 52 yr old . I work for the post office delivering mail and am reasonably active outide of work. I was just wondering if PF might be hereditary.
Samir Baida ouch ! I have a bad addiction to Little Debbies but Thank you for your response. I am going to try to be more responsible for cutting out the sweets.
Ipf can be hereitary, yes. Some are isolated cases too. No one in my family ever had ipf or lung problems, and we never knew anything about this disease until I got it.
Hello all, I am doing some research into IPF for a film that brings some awareness to this disease. Does anyone know of IPF occurrence in children? What is the youngest patient case known of to date? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. God Bless!
I don't know you but read your comment about your father having Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. My thoughts and prayers go out to him. I don't have this disease but I am a Cancer Survivor and being ill is a struggle.
