@@LeRescator1 Paired with possible eddy-current brakes. Don't know which country it is, but it's quite common that modern trains in Europe are fitted with either Eddy-current brakes or magnet brakes. Magnet brakes sure were not installed or used on that train, as that would have lead to a far more violent stop and more noise.
@weeardguy
@weeardguy 2 года назад
@LOLO / VAL Yeah, like I'm talking shit there. Magnet brakes that just drop down on the tracks and make sure for a very fast (but also very violent) stop and Eddy-current brakes (that use alternating current induced in the rails to cause friction) are very common by now, just not in every country. Eddy-current brakes for example are not allowed in my country (Netherlands) as they can disrupt the safety-systems that use track current for their functionality. Magnet brakes however are very common on Dutch (and probably European) trams and Dutch trains by now. The train at 7:40 applied those, because it would have had a completely different outcome with the normal brakes: the level crossing in question is hard to see and only gives a clear view for the train driver about 100 to 150 meters in front of it and trains there travel around 80 km/h. With the normal brakes, he would've dragged the thing for hundreds of meters. Besides the brakes, many trains in The Netherlands (and probably Europe) have ABS as well, which can significantly reduce the distance to come to a full stop. Maybe look a few things up before you start talking about things I already know.
@ncsouthernman
@ncsouthernman Год назад
that proved to me that trains can stop quicker than they say. i am not gonna test a train, but they could do better.
@weeardguy
@weeardguy Год назад
@@ncsouthernman The problem is that those sayings usually date back to when trains only had their cast-iron or disc-brakes, which (paired with possible ABS) will take a long time to stop (ABS can already make a huge difference there). I've been on a train once that went into emergeny at 140 km/h and only had normal brakes and ABS. Besides the length it took (about 1,2 kilometer), it was also a frightening experience because you feel that every carriage just wants to go forward. It started shaking and swaying from side to side violently. Paired with the loud popping noises from the ABS and everything resonating from full braking, it was not something I would live through again (The fact it was an emergency due to an act of despair didn't help) I've experienced the magnet brakes on trams quite a few times by now and they most likely saved someones life every single time. They are so violent that it can cause harm to the passengers if they are not holding on to something (and the lighter passenger easily slides forward from a forward facing seat, thé reason I always tend to take the few available backwards facing seats). Trams can stop within their length with the magnet brakes at certain speeds and both inside and outside you will know from the bang it creates that a tram applied them ;)

This accident took place in Roermond (NL) at the local paper factory. A passer-by saw the incident filmed the crash. Fortunately, the train driver had already spotted the truck on the track and had already applied emergency braking. Incidentally, the filmer later received a hefty fine because he did not provide the necessary first aid, but continued to film and he entered the track, which could lead to a life-threatening situation. During the crash, the semi-trailer had also pulled down part of the overhead wires, which at that time still had 1900 volts alternating current on it. There was therefore a great risk of electrocution.
@weeardguy
@weeardguy 2 года назад
@@erikcreugers6759 Yeah and thank god for the magnet brakes. It would have been a totally different situation if they would not have been deployed nor fitted. Good to read the filmer got a fine for trespassing. I could understand him filming, but his total rush of wanting to get an image of the aftermath and such was disgusting. By the way ;) We don't have 1900 Volts AC, but 1800 VDC max on the overhead wires.

It's part of EU training.. You have to try and walk ahead, along the track, in an attempt to warn the oncoming train. In case you have a breakdown, near the tracks. Which direction the train is coming from, is a 50/50 chance
@weeardguy
@weeardguy Год назад
@@mortenfrosthansen84 Which EU-training? Can't remember I ever heard about it here: I think hardly no one knows the 'stop all motion' hand signal (in text: raise your right arm and spin the whol arm around in circular fashion: this way it's a clear signal, even at speed. The problem with that specific crash is the location: it's a very tight curve where not only the traindriver has a bad view on the crossing, but the general public has a bad view on the tracks as well. About 150 meters before the crossing is when a traindriver gets a clear view of what could be going on there. Dutch crossings give you little time: 23 seconds after the lights and bells started, the train can enter the crossing already. And being a Dutch crossing, trains from either direction are a great possibility. I only know this because a traindriver on a Dutch train-enthusiasts-forum provided pictures on the situation at scene.

@@weeardguy as a truck-/lorry-driver you have to first pass, and within 5 years attend a EU qualification course.. The 5 year course is a repetition and learning of new rules or regulations. Despite what many think, it's not that easy acquiring the license. Theory test, driving test and the EU qualification test. The theory lessons are brutal.. since there are quite a bit of rules and laws to learn.. And penalties are extremely harsh, for failing to abide by the rules. In case you register your starting country wrong on the tachograph. 400 euro fine... That's the same, in my country, as driving a car without license. Crazy.. Furthermore... Have 6 wrong registrations over a period of 3 years, and you loose your license all together. 3 years is a long long time, to only get 6 strikes

@@SamZarifYT I used F=ma because when a train sees an object and hits the brakes, that's a change in speed and therefore we consider the acceleration not momentum which is why I used F=ma, but if the train maintains a steady speed then you are right, you would use the inertia equation.

The incident at 6:40 illustrates the problem with putting a crossing arm at the exit of a railroad crossing. The vehicle went past the first gate, as a result of inattention most likely, then saw the second gate arm and stopped. Bad mistake. That’s why in the USA we generally have the arm across the lanes leading onto the tracks. We don’t want to block vehicles leaving the tracks. Of course sometimes people drive around them, but that is a deliberate act so the fault is entirely on the driver avoiding the gate.

I'll just grab some figures out of thin air but, Say there's half a million trains on the planet, mobile for at least ten hours a day and going past a level crossing (on average) every ten minutes, then calculate the number of trucks crossing railway lines every day... It still mean we have a hell of a lot of idiots not paying attention when driving trucks across railway lines. I really liked the idiot at 7:31 that got out and waved his arms at the train, hoping it would stop, hilarious.
@railtrolley
@railtrolley 2 года назад
Logic. A man waving his arms thinks he is far more visible to the train crew, than a 40' pantechnicon.

That accident took place in Roermond, The Netherlands. The level crossing is in a very tight curve which makes it hard to spot where the train will come from. Even when you do know where it will come from long in advance of a potential crash, it's not very usefull anyway, as the time between activation of the crossing and the train actually driving over the crossing, is something like 23 seconds at minimum. Thank god that train had magnet brakes fitted and applied them. The outcome would have been far worse if it hadn't. It was travelling around 80 km/h when it applied emergency braking. The accident occured because nearby roadworks on the main road had closed that road down, but not every driver understood the signs that pointed them in the direction of the detour. This particular road has a no entry sign for lorries/HGV's as it eventually ends in a residential area where they will have a hard time negotiating the tight turns. Especially because the turn towards the level crossing is very tight, well ahead of the crossing, signs are posted that lorries are not allowed to enter. This driver, a foreign one, either missed it or decided to test his luck. He most likely got stuck in trying to make it trough the turn and though many people said he had to floor it once he knew a crash was inevitable, I doubt he could have done that, as his trailer was nowhere near straight most likely would have gotten caught on the level crossing armature.

Somebody help me out here please...you've made a mistake, now you have the option of A - going through the barrier and breaking it or B - being smashed to pieces by a speeding train, I'm really struggling here, could somebody help me out with the correct answer, thank you.

But not the loco pilot fault... The trackside marks and speedsigns must be explicit. (it went like this: "expect speed limit 30" , then few meters far "90" and suddenly "30". SžDC somehow forgot cover the "90" speedsign...)

6:17 was due to multiple factors: - track was under repair - train driver was running almost 3-times faster than alowed for that track section - problem in communication - he received info about decreased speed to tablet, but was not notified about it. 8:30 truck driver's fault. 4 injuries.

A lot of these drivers should be arrested for endangering lives other than their own. Causing a passenger train to derail could result in a lot of very gruesome deaths (those coaches turn into pancakes in some crashes, you can imagine what happens to anyone inside...). A freight train is also dangerous if derailed because they often transport dangerous cargo (one of the videos showed a downed tank car with visible fumes coming out of it, if that had exploded, it would have been RIP to all the bystanders, especially if that had caused the rest of the tank cars to go up). Hell, at high speed just the sheer mass of a train coming off the rails can cause a chaotic chain reaction.

Two things I have learned from RU-vid - 1. American trains have to sound their horns as soon as they see a camera 2. American truck drivers have to park across railroad crossings, get out and flap their arms around

Most are stuck, because the trailer is to long and hit the ground. But what i dont understand: a damaged trailer while backing up or a total truck + trailer..... why all choose a totaled truck + trailer ..... in the end they are at fault for both options....
