You should definitely check out Waldameer in Erie, PA. Has an old dark ride, Wacky Shack. I know you love those! Also had the only roller coaster to go over a 4 lane road. Also very close to my city, Buffalo, NY

@englishatheart

I mean, that's probably best. You can't have much fun if you're stuck wearing a mask, having to stay six feet away from everyone, and with most of the attractions shut down. I don't believe in living in fear when you risk your life every time you leave the house, regardless of a pandemic, but I wouldn't go to any parks right now simply because I wouldn't be able to truly enjoy myself. I'm poor, so anything I am spending money on needs to be worth the money.

Glad you finally got up into my neck of the woods...too bad it had to be when our state decided to go Defcon 1 Restriction mode. I believe the motel cabin you entered is in fact from the Shirley Cabins which was a few miles west of Ligonier. The ABC Motel sign came from another motor lodge just east of town. Jacob, I love the history; Scramblers, Tilt-a-Whirls, the little train...unknown but represented mystery house and dark ride, and magical carousel from an old beach town...thank you for sharing...it looked well kept..they may be having difficulty exposing staff to issues, as well as folks wisely considering what they should do right now...I'd love to see this little park again...oh, and I live in the great Sonoran desert, so the variety of greens is a delight too

I found this explanation for why the cigarette machines had mirrors: "They often had a mirror on the front of them too, which, as one collector explained to me, had to do with the machine’s placement within a business. They were usually put near the bathrooms of bars and restaurants, since these lavatories were often so small that they lacked the “amenities” that many of today’s public restrooms have (like, say, sinks and mirrors). And so, the mirror on the cigarette machine, right outside the bathroom, would provide a convenient moment to check yourself out - and of course, remind you that you were craving a smoke."

Another big factor to all the rides and games, and food stands, not being open at Idlewild, and many other amusement parks this year was staffing. With the parks not opening until June or July in most cases, people either already found other summer jobs, or did not see an amusement park as the "safest" option to work at. Since Idlewild opened in mid July they have shortened their days, and now are only opened Friday - Sunday. We take our son when we can. It is a great little park, glad you will be back. I really enjoyed you video on Kennywood last year, Idlewild has the same charm when it is open.

My kids and I loved Idlewild! I'm so glad you got to check it out, and I hope you get to go back. If you do travel the full Lincoln Highway, I would highly recommend spending a night at the Lincoln Motor Court just outside of Bedford, PA. These are little cabins and they are still set up just like they would have been back in the heyday. And while you're in Bedford, you might want to check out the National Museum of the American Coverlet (the guides go into great detail about how these were made, and the various styles). Between Bedford and Ligonier is the Flight 93 Memorial (from 9/11), and I think they did an excellent job with info there (although it might not be very exciting for a video). Also, further east in York, PA, the Agricultural & Industrial Museum is fantastic! My kids and I took a trip through Pennsylvania for vacation and loved it so much that we did it again a couple years later! Some other things we enjoyed on those trips: the canal boats pulled by mules in Easton, PA; the indoor railroad at Roadside America in PA; the Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum in Wheeling, WV; and the Toy and Plastic Brick Museum (unofficial Lego museum) in Bellaire, OH. P.S. Love your videos!! :)

If you really do go across the old Lincoln highway, depending on which route you take (the earlier, or later routes) you'll need a vehicle designed for some dirt roads and desolate places. In Utah, some of the earlier routes take you through old Pony Express Stations and ghost towns.
