this song reminds me of being 14, and summers that never end. this album was a huge part of the soundtrack to me and my friends adolescence, happy times :)
Saw this band around 1997 at a tiny venue. Roddy spent most of the time rolling around on the stage floor. The place was rammed, i spent the gig sitting on top of Rod's foldback speaker. Great gig. Amazing band.
I remember getting kicked in the head by a crowd surfer at Reading 99, 20 minutes before they came on. They were being touted as the UK Nirvana at that point. Punk, but with an REM collection. My perfect band. 100 Broken Windows was just as good. After that, that went a bit Manic Street Preachers.
I think James and Alex did the later 'Hope' singles and most of 100 Broken Windows's. Can't remember to whom the earliest ones were accredited to though (fragile etc). Think James and Alex were the best at doing Idlewild videos, as there's a complete irrelevance to them, which suits the music.
I been going around commenting on late 90s indie / pop punk bands of the time, and putting them on trial. Idlewild is one of the few bands which gets approval.
My band just released the first song off our new EP and it's heavily inspired by Idlewild. So it would be great to get some opinions from Idlewild fans. It's on this channel if you're interested. Thanks!
