I'm an Australian Jew and went into Ramallah in 2000, but at that time there were promising peace talks and so going into Ramallah and saying you were an Israeli wasn't as risky as now with such tension going on ! Those people at the mosque were so kind. Scorpions was probably a way to warn you that sleeping alone outside is very dangerous. Do you not notice that all ground floor windows have bars? You would not be allowed in a mosque in UK wearing a t shirt and shorts. There was a notice which you couldn't read. So kind of those guys to recognise you are very naive.

I know at times you are not revealing your true identity but still Palestinians can't even get that far to even come up with a pseudo-identity. For them its just not possible to freely roam around.

It’s sad what the situation has come to between Arabs and Jews, before Zionism Jews lived in harmony with Arabs through the entire Middle East, it was the safest place for Jews unlike Europe and other places where Jews were oppressed and persecuted they were very successful and flourishing in Arab society and were considered a major part in the tapestry of the community, there is even an old Arabic movie called “Hasan, Marcos and Cohen” that depicts the story of a Muslim, a Christian and a Jew who have a successful business partnership.

It reminds me of the story of Jesus - the parable that he told. A man was attacked by mobsters and while he was lying in blood a Jewish Priest walked past him - a levite and then crossed the road and pretended not to see him. Then a Samaritan saw him, picked him up, took him to an overnight lodge, got his wounds bound up, paid for his stay and returned a few days later to check up on him and then paid further money for his keep. The kindness of strangers is beautiful.
