I bought a iDoing unit because of this video. I just installed it and realized the front speakers didn't work. Then I ran into your solution in a subie forum mentioning the telematics. You saved me from splicing any wires. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Just installed this one in my WRX. Mine came with totally different UI’s than the ones you showed. Something to keep in mind for people wanting to upgrade. I guess it’s luck of the draw? I don’t mind since I’ll be using CarPlay 99% of the time lol
Do also remember, he said he's had that unit for almost 3 years, which would be about 5 now. It isn't very unusual that in that length of time, they changed their options. But, I'd love to hear your opinions on it so far, as I am really considering buying one for my '04 WRX
Thanks Chris, i bought this headunit because of you. Love it. Had some problems with carplay here and there, won't seem to connect when my phone battery is low, but when its above 20% it connects fine. Otherwise, really love the carplay. Keep up with these nice quality videos :)
Hmm that is strange! Definitely some random issues I’ve heard. Fortunately, I haven’t had any issues with mine. Is the cable you are using brand new Apple supplied cord?
Thank you for this video. You're (wittingly or not) one of the ONLY guys who shows the RADIO app long enough to see if the RDS/RadioTXT feature actually is USABLE. (which on this unit, it clearly is, and this is very important to a lot of people -they only realise this after buying- and most (all) companies are pretty dodgy when it comes to answering questions regarding RDS/RadioTXT.
@Scoobyfreak86 what are your thoughts on the Kicker speaker upgrade? I justified the purchase of this headunit because it'll increase the power of whatever speakers I have. Debating between the OEM Kicker upgrade vs aftermarket units.

Is there a way to customize the Home Screen? I have the same options as you do for the Home Screen and looks completely different. Also having an issue with Apple CarPlay to work
What do you think about the Junsun head units? I’m thinking of getting one but I’m not so sure if Junsun is better than Idoing for the price because they are cheaper.
I’ve seen a couple of this Android head units. I wrote to you about the subwoofer yesterday, thanks to your feedback, I bought the subwoofer & the head unit as well. But I bought through Seicane. I didn’t bought through AliExpress, they take extremely long times to deliver items.
it looks a little more awkward on camera than it does in person. It flows very nicely and you don't even notice how it sits. In fact, I actually prefer it this way as it is closer to the driver. I felt the stock unit was very flat and not driver focused. I wrapped the silver trim in gloss black.
I got this head unit based on your video, and for some reason, my AM radio doesn't work? FM seems OK (but not the strongest signal). I believe the 12V amp is not plugged in? Any idea?
what voltage does the headunit put out? consensus that android headunits are garbage for sound quality... anybody that upgrades the stock headunit is going to "sound better" because it sends more voltage to the speakers. but how much? trying to compare to the well known headunit manufactures in sound. and android headunits are usually less "plug and play"

Installed this radio... it's great, but about six months down the line, the radio doesn't work. Been fiddling with it. Only works now and then when I reset it... it's really annoying
Hey Chris, I saw in your video it looked like you were using your factory USB connection that is located in the center console. I've watched other videos on this head unit and they've said you won't we able to use your center console USB connection. So I was wondering how you were able to get that to work. Also, do you have to use a factory apple charging cable to use the Apple Car Play feature?
What would it take to use this with an inline amp...I do not have the hk I simply have the universal alpine inline for the door speakers and then I have my subwoofer

I purchased ownice 9 inch...i bought this had to send back because frame wasnt exact fit..then i realized i could buy frame and unit seperate...i have ownice with 6gb on purchase wondering if i try the idoing but already made purchase i guess i could cancel so im on fence.
Great video! Thanks so much for the review! Quick question - I have an HK 2018 Forester Limited. I think I hooked everything up correctly, but I'm getting a low/quiet hiss. Doesn't get louder or softer with the volume just constant anytime the unit is playing. Switching between sources or "turning off the amp" in the settings will stop the hiss briefly before starting again like when music is paused. Any thoughts? have you experience the same?
@@Scoobyfreak86 Thanks so much - will do! I isolated the problem - it's in the upper/windshield speakers in the front and the upper speakers in the backseat area. Both left and right do this front and back. The door subs in the front and the lower speakers in the backseat area.
@@Scoobyfreak86 I just messed with a lot of settings on the stereo and didn't cure it. It sounds like a static/grounding issue. I'll let you know what Idoing says.
So I just got mine installed today and noticed the same thing. There is an amp setting (I believe, not in my car at the moment but I can check tomorrow) that boosts your volume. If you have that maxed (I believe max is 60) it will hiss I think I set mine to 45 and don't notice it now. It might be in the developer options but can't confirm at the moment.

Hey Chris! I saw the trajectory lines for reverse was a bit off from the center lines. It had like 2 different trajectories on it. Can you remove one to make it look like the stock reverse?
I know I changed this at some point, but it has been a while since I did it so it's escaping my memory at the moment. It's in the settings where you can turn them on/off and adjust.
So I just installed, everything works great sound is great... the only thing I can not figure out is how to use WAZE via carplay while listening to radio? Is there a setting I am not seeing? Thanks!

Do you lose xm with this head unit? I listen to xm a lot and have a subscription so I’d be pretty upset if I had to give that up, though I know I can just connect it phone to the xm app and play it through there, it’s just the ease of access of it being on the head unit is a lot easier

Sir. I bought it and I love it. And I have a question 😂. Is there any way to have network access on head unit while I'm connected to my phone and using android auto? Of course I can use Hotspot on my android phone, but then I can't use android auto on idoing.
Does it work with the OEM Aux port? Just curious as I noticed that “AUX” was an option when you were scrolling through. If not, could you just get an aux adapter that has RCA plugs to plug into the Head Unit?

How do you get the wired Apple CarPlay to work? I’m plugging in an Apple certified usb cable (Anker, not the white Apple one) and it charges but doesn’t boot up CarPlay. I prefer the wired option since there’s a slight lag using the wireless one

I installed a similar unit on my WRX 2017 model. Unit works fine but when I use the volume controls while the headlights are switched on the brightness of all the dashboard lights increase, any idea on what could be wrong?
Scoobyfreak86 yes Oem apply cable on USB 1, it’s still finicky at times. I talked to some people at IDoing and they told me they enabled CarPlay wirelessly but no luck on that either
I have the same unit in my 2017 wrx. Just wondering if you’ve updated your firmware at all? Mine has quite a few glitches that I’m sure would go away with an update but I’m finding it impossible to find one. I’ve only found them for the other brands. I sent them a message on Instagram over a month ago and haven’t heard back. Any info you’ve got would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I love the channel!
I’m more familiar with iPhone but all you need to do is going into the android auto settings on your phone and put waze on the Home Screen so it shows up.
@@Scoobyfreak86 yeah I tried putting Waze on default and settings on the headunit, still wouldn't pop up automatically and there's no app to click on in android auto setting in the car.

I installed my idoing unit, everything works well, but i cannot get the lines on my reverse to come on and the most of the radio channels come in static. Yes. You need it plugged in for the front speakers to work. It’s shoved in the back and at the bottom. Just need to maneuver wires out of the way and it’ll fit.
