Of course Surge and Kit did make it out of the collapsing lair, because on their last panel, there’s a hole on the top. So they got out that way and have disappeared to unknown places.

After Sonic, Tails, Metal Sonic, and Eggman have managed to escape the Collapsing Lair, Eggman tries to skedaddle, only to be met with one hell of a Death Glare from Sonic, complete with a detailed Extreme Close-Up. Eggman meekly asks for the truce to continue for a little longer, to which Sonic, clearly fed-up, agrees, conceding that he has to bring the wisps back to Whisper. *Shows that despite Sonic's own morals, you wouldn't want to mess with him when he's truly angry.*

The wisps couldn’t help because they were drained from the dynamocage and also surge and kit will most likely return but I really hope that it’s shadow that helps them since they are both made from a lab and had memories changed but like you said they kit and surge weren’t cared for but shadow was thanks to Maria.

I feel like the longer Sonic is reminded of his morals, the sooner he will SNAP…

It was a fitting conclusion honestly. I couldn’t see Surge and Kit having any way out that didn’t feel off. 1. Surrender and team up? That would be anticlimactic after the past few years with them 2. Get captured by Eggman? That would be devastatingly sad considering what’s happened so far. 3. Escape and find a life somewhere else or plot revenge? Best option. I only wonder if we could’ve seen Sonic lose his cool for a bit and try to “delete” Eggman at the moment and either have Tails stop him, or remember Mr. Tinker and maybe Belle’s wishes. I know Sega won’t let him go super bad or anything but who knows?

I really enjoyed the characters of Surge and Kit and really hope to see them appear in future story arcs as criminals that have a better hold on their minds and cause their own style of chaos for themselves and not because it has to do with Sonic or Eggman. I can't wait for the next Sonic arc to begin.

Surge and Kits' "final" appearance reminds me a lot of Archie Sonic #200. The villains are defeated, with one of them being left a broken and mentally unstable mess, and the other scolding the heroes for their actions, and then retreating into hiding, leaving the heroes to deal with a new mess.

Yes this issue feels a little bit rushed, my feelings is that they wanted to wrap up any dangling story threads. IDW isn't doing so well financially so I wonder if there trying to have there comics become more self contained in the event of they have to cancel or go bankrupt.

I feel like if Surge & Kit were to keep being villains, they are better off being ones for Shadow or Knuckles. More so for Shadow, since the similar connection they have & if Surge & Kit truly believe they will never be free so long as Sonic & Tails are around, the best one to put them down to save them from their suffering would be Shadow.

Ian did say he wants Surge and Kit to be recurring villains.

I think the point Kit was trying to make is that Sonic is trying to use Surge and Kit as a way to prove his methodology of rehabilitating his enemies, proving that he is right after all the mishaps he had in this series

I would question why the Wisps didn't help Sonic and Tails escape. But then, they were just freed from the Dynamo Cage. And they might be drained of energy or they're just strained from the experience.

Could you imagine if Whisper's Wisps came out of the cage as Frenzy and Void Nega Wisps?

A bit of a long post, because its a Conclusion for a long arc. I apologize ahead of time: I recall Flynn mentioned in one of his podcasts that originally Surge and Kit would have appeared during a Metal Virus. But, I think he mentioned the editor thought it would be too many characters introduced at once. About the comic: I had mixed feelings. The fight scenes were fun, and the team work was interesting. And it was impressive to see Sonic actually struggling. And see the range of emotions he's gone through in this issue alone. But Surge and Kit, as characters, were starting to get repetitive. None of what Surge said made sense. She looked happy hurting others, before she even met Sonic face to face. And when she does, she starts spouting nonsense about why a Hedgehog who saves lives is no better then someone who kills. And Kit said Sonic is no different then Eggman and Starline because he wants them? I'm sorry, but that just made no sense. Surge and Kit are an amazing duo in appearance, with cool abilities. But I wouldn't mind if they disappeared for a while. Or if just Kit shows up. Conclusion: Surge almost looked like she had a super form while going through the color spectrum. It was glorious.

i'm pretty sure that Surge and Kit are fine, just look at the broken window behind Kit when they left they are like what Belle is for Mr. Tinker while their creator is gone, their story impact remains in there creations

. REALLY HOPPING IDW COUNTUE WITH THE SONIC THE HEDGEHOG SERIES I REALLY REALLY WANT TO SEE MORE OF SURGE & KIT IN THE FUTURE

Surge and Kit are slowly turning into my favorite new characters of this series, thanks to their need for one another, their tragic origins story and their powers, and I really want them to return. However, in order for them to become an even bigger threat that this time, the key action might be healing their mental instability. If they somehow find a healing pond (something akin to a Chao Sanctuary, powered by a Chaos Emerald), they could start from there and reflect on their actions. After that, we can have many possibilities, like being recruited by the other new villains, evolve their natural abilities, being mistaken by heroes and thinking about their past, etc.

I imagine after Surge's overusing their power and her short circuiting freeing them from the dynamo cage, the wisps barely had enough energy to float. If Tails had his tablet on him they could've asked but I think the Wisps being too drained to help them escape makes the most sense.

I'd like to say that I totally didn't notice that Vegeta pose reference 😂. I should have known a long time ago 😩 Next, I would say that this was the kind of ending that I expected since they wouldn't want this to be too long, or be so continuous in this comic. It's really blows that this was the destined outcome. Hopefully some time in the future Sonic could finally find and save those two. If anyone will teach them how to be free it's him, Sonic the Hedgehog 😎 P.s the art and everything is just so cool. I always just have to look back and appreciate how awesome this comic is when it didn't have to be. It could have been but it ain't. It NEVER is🤩✨👌 I really hope that everyone of all ages could know how cool this is. Especially the kids because this may be the only time they could see how cool Sonic in MODERN DAY. Other than Sonic Frontiers or movies

I hate hatreds based on misunderstandings.

One way Surge and Kit could come back into the story later is them having visit Tails or Dr. Eggman because their bodies are in need of maintenance.

Issues I have with this arc aside, I feel like the finale could've actually been one issue longer with more action scenes to give Sonic and Metal some actual shine and really illustrate them doing their best to take Surge down only for her to prove too tough or powerful for them despite their efforts. And like Beatman said have an epilogue thing with Whisper reuniting with her Wisps and a hint at Surge and Kit's current whereabouts. Because where else they could they go if they didn't kill themselves with the collapsing base? Side note: Also, I wish Sonic was allowed to get angry before the end of the arc. For example, him getting mad at Surge after witnessing she beat up Whisper rather than just being smug. Ya know, wanting to actually pay Surge back because he's out of patience with having his friends attacked instead of just saying 'I see you're making bad life choices again'. That just felt bad taste of line to use like "big off" when Starlines' passing was mentioned. What I would've given for him to say "You've gone too far, Kid! You're gonna pay for what you did to Whisper!"' And have Surge reply with "What? Yer not gonna forgive me this time? Did I blow my second chance?" Would've been nice to have Surge actively protect Kit from danger to give a definitive bonding moment between them. I feel like they don't really get that and it has just been Kit "saving" her.

I feel like in another timeline, Sonic just kinda gives up at some point in this moment, just stops running, jumps in the water, and tells surge: “Know what? Maybe your right. Maybe the cycle between me and Eggman has gone on long enough. But before you end it, how’s about we just talk? No jokes, no quips, no puns, just talk, have some final words between us. I’ll stand right here, I won’t move. Giving you all the power here. I’m just done.” And I can just see surge be like: “………………” (um, w-wha? I mean… he’s not moving, he’s literally just standing there, and I have the advantage… I guess talking couldn’t really hurt.) I feel like Surge wouldn’t fully know what to do in this situation.

To be fair the Overpowered arc already acted as extended epilogue to the The Bad Guys, The Chao Resort Race, Camp Forest Fire, Road To Issue 50, and Imposter Syndrome Arcs. That’s seven interconnected arcs. Anymore would be more excessive.

I really like the Yu Yu yu Hakusho connection Blue made. It's a fantastic anime that holds up. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it!

I was happy that the Dynamo Cage got destroyed cause it made Surge even worse, despite getting powerful. Also, I feel like she is gonna do more harm than before if she doesn’t handle the brainwash that Starline left her along with Kit.

Maybe there will be some sort of epilogue in the annual 🤔 btw I would like to know Surge & Kit’s backstory pre Starline

I didn’t even take this issue as the end of Surge and Kit’s storyline. I simply thought they retreated until they show up again later. I REALLY hope this isn’t the end. They were written SO FREAKING WELL

I find it funny you put the Wisps down for not lending their abilities to Sonic and/or Tails when it came time to escape. I mean, did you _not_ just see how Surge was abusing their energies this whole time? Not to mention the big final draw on their powers that ultimately overloaded and destroyed the Dynamo Cage? They had nothing left to GIVE dude. Get off their little alien backs.

Anyone notice that the six districts around Eggperial City resemble the 6 of the Emerald colors: Cyan, Blue, Red, Green, Yellow and Purple ? Also the Chaos Emerald Rouge stole in the 2022 Annual was either the Blue Emerald or the Silver Emerald. I wouldn't be surprised if Eggman found the remaining emeralds and inserted them into the different areas for extra power.

I really doubt Surge and Kit are dead

For Eggman he did have a minor victory by retaking Eggbase Sigma back after he override all of Starline's security measures and paint back the Eggman logo's. If Surge and Kit did perish in the collapsed bunker then Eggman will sooner or later discover their remains and study Starline's research left behind. We may get Surge and Kit return as servents to Eggman (similar to Sonic Adventure 2 with Shadow having a rewritten memory from Eggman's grandfather), or new Eggman enforcers in the future.

It’s a printing Templet of Issue 16 of Archie Sonic X and I’m unsure if it’s been documented, you’re one of the only RU-vidrs I know who covers sonic comics so I wanted to bring this to your attention! Nothing against Stanley, but I am SO glad to hear Ian will be returning. There's just something off about the execution of the stories they work on compared to Flynn that I can't quite put into words.

Huh, it seems like you started-off 2023 with a bang. Anyway, I was sort of hoping that Kit would’ve eventually figured-out just what kind of effect the Cage had on Surge and tried to destroy it himself, but guess not, Still, have it be destroyed by overload works too, I guess. Hm, this was a interesting End to the Arc, Honestly, I really hope that this isn’t the last time we see Surge and Kitsunami, i think there could still be some much more that could be done with their Characters and it would be sort of a waste to just end things here, also there could still be at least some hope for them yet, If we do see them again, i just hope their Stories conclusion won’t be too bad at least and that they can have at least some kind of closure. Anyway, next Issue, huh? Seems like it’s going to be quite interesting, considering Arc we just finished, I hope it will be a good follow up and I hope we’ll get a good transition from this Arc to the Next, so that it at least doesn’t seem like we forgetting about this Arc too quickly, Also, so Sheep Girl is actually going to get a more of a prominent Role now, huh? I gotta say, she always struck me as more of a significant Character than what we were lead to believe, can’t say why though, Regardless, it will be interesting to see her in action and to see just what kind of Character she really is, as well as to see if we’ll get to know more about her beyond this Coming Story, It will be interesting to see where things will go from here on out, can’t wait. Hmm another way this could've played out is rather then Kit just collapsing the room, he and Surge would've set up time bombs in place before hand or setting the base to self-destruct if they were defeated. Then Kit collapses the room to trap them all intending to go out in a "fiery blaze" with Sonic, Eggman, metal, and Tails making a mad dash to escape while a timer counting down in the panel's corners.

I really hate the walk away ending.

To explain the possible plot hole. I don’t think the Wisp had enough power considering that they were being drained of power. As for Surge and Kit, the way I was reading the comic, it looked like Kit flew out to skylight while destroying the room around him. So I’m pretty sure that they are alive and well. And after seeing fan art of Surge failing to intimidate everyone’s favorite edgelord… I think Surge should definitely come back!

Eggman wasn't evil enough in this arc. He's never given a panel to react to sonic's suffering from surge. Whether it be watching with delight or cold disappointment. Frankly, I think it would be the latter for him to see sonic get killed by some young inexperienced upstart and not him or his creations.

I'm not mad that Sonic let Eggman get away this time. Eggman just fixed Metal, and Sonic and Tails are a bit beaten. They'd have to go through Metal to get to Eggman. They need to regain their strength. Besides, the next arc will be about Sonic and friends taking the fight to Eggman.

I think the reason why this issue feels so incomplete and rushed compared to previous issues is because IDW is currently in deep dogshit and isn't stable financially which means SEGA and the staff they've that write these comics are playing it safe in-case the company goes belly up. I don't think they'd want to go back to Archie given all the shit that's happened in the past with them. But when IDW does go belly-up SEGA's gonna need to either find *another* comic publisher for Sonic's brand or say "Screw it! We'll just publish them ourselves."

I liked this arc but the pacing feels weird. It's really slow and repetitive, it feels like every issue since 50 is just Surge, Kit, Sonic, Tails, and Eggy dicking around and repeating the same things over and over again. There are standout moments but it all feels directionless, which has been a problem since metal virus ended. I still really liked Surge and Kit and like I said there were cool moments, I just don't feel as invested for whatever reason. Metal Virus definitely dragged but it felt like it was building up to something and the characters had defined goals. Here I'm not even sure when the arc starts and ends.

I don’t know surge and Kit are pretty popular. They might come back.

This issue felt off and to me is the weakest of the arc

I am not looking forward to the next arc because I never fully liked any of the new heroes (the villains are good) that the IDW comics brought in because (and I hate to say it) Belle overstayed her welcome while Tangle and Whisper seem to appear randomly and then not appear for a long time (kind of like Classic Sonic in Sonic Forces) which is bad when the comics take so long to come out and as a result I more or less forgot those 2 existed for a time.

Surge and Kit shouldn't have been priority one for Sonic and Tails. I can see them chase down Surge and Kit but the moment they knew Eggman was there, Eggman should have been the main target. You know, the guy who started that Nano Zombie Apocalypse, took over the world in forces. That's a bigger priority than hunting down a person for destroying a city block in a city.

Well that sure was anti-climactic. But hey how could the plot contrivance arc end on anything else but one some pretty hard contrivances. I do still dislike Sonic being so focus on turning his enemies into friends in this comic as the very examples the story uses to justify it (Shadow and Knuckles) are cases were Sonic had no interest in trying to talk them out of there evil action and just fought them. He just quickly accepted there turn for the better (same is also true for Silver and to a lesser extent Blaze). But as Ian kind of forced this onto Evan with his writing for Sonic concerning Metal Sonic and Surge prior is she kind of stuck with it so I don't want to hold it against the issue to much even if I still personally dislike it. In large part because it really feels like we just strip Sonic of even the last bit of his edge when even his snark is only aimed at converting people to the good. So lets start small and move are self up the the big dumb ending. 1) Surge Absorbing the Dark shield: This actually is a 2 folded issues. As for one its questionable why it even knocks out Metal Sonic because if its that she drained all of his energy than shouldn't Eggman be able to fix anything making it a plot hole that he could get him back online. And if it wasn't that then what else? And as a second point does it open the very simple question how can Surge still normal brain realize that she can do this faster than Metal and why couldn't metal just deactivate the Dark shield the second she did this anyway. And as a bonus point how did Metal even end up in this situation he should know better than anyone but Eggman what the dynamo cage can actually do. 2) Where the hell was Tails when Surge was frying him? Like at this point did Kit stop the fight and you really want to tell me that Tails would just let Sonic fall to his doom? 3) Why do nether Metal nor Sonic ever even try to get rid of the Dynamo Cage and break it as it would make Surge Infinity weaker imminently. And give the heroes access to the Wisp power of the Wisp she stole. And now for the big one. Nothing about the finally with Kit works. Eggman got Metal online and we saw clearly in Imposter Syndrom that Kit doesn't stand a change against Metal and even during the escape did it take Kit and a still fully powered Tails to delay Metal (he was never actually beaten and only failed in killing Sonic because he was recalled because of Surge). Tails was still fully healed and we clearly saw in issue 50 that Kit is no match for him to the point that Tails could beat him without having to throw a single punch AND Tails knows a sure fire way to one shot kit without hurting him to much by pulling a fee wires out of his hydrocoil. Sonic doesn't need Tails to get out he got at least 4 different Wisps right here than easily can save him (Hover, Rocked, Laser, Spike and if need be could he properly even just drill himself out). And speaking about with Wisp Sonic could easily have stopped Kit by just using laser or Rocked. It makes no sense that he would refuse to kick Kits ass as he had no issue doing so with Surge. And if you want me to believe that the wisp were to drained should they have been drawn that way preferably not even being able to fly anymore (never mind that even if they were worn down would they have turned into Nega Wisp and there aren't a thing Kit could do about Sonic going VOID). And given how deep into the complex there are it him being able to just destroy it all also a bit strange as the best he has gotten prior was thrown a spike ball of an Egg Breaker back at it to destroy it. Now that I'm done explaining why Kit getting away with the way he ended thing makes no god damn sense lets talk about him doing this in the first place doesn't ether. So first of all he stops his fight with Tails because Tails convinces him that he might have an argument here. Kit is due to presumably having notice that Surge is hurting herself through the dynamo cage even willing to listen to the idea that Sonic will turn things around. Now please someone explain me which of the fallowing action which is just Sonic trying to time stale Surge for her powers to run out so that they can talk things out and free the by them kidnapped Wisps implies that they are only here to win an argument about whose ideology is the right one? The only one betraying anyone is Eggman and while Eggman says that Sonic and Tails would do the same is Eggman obviously not to be trusted, there are tons of examples in the series that they hold there promises including the actual ending of this very issue and Kit knows that Eggman is an evil lying villain so he had to be utterly stupid to believe Eggman. Furthermore is Surge absolutely toasted and he wants the best for her so the Heroes offering proper aid and wanting to defend her from being taken by Eggman and Metal all go highly against the conclusions he ended up coming to. Its a rather badly written peace of story that only exist so that we won't lose all sympathy points for kit, He and Tails don't have a fight that eats up panel space that Evan wanted to give to Surge and Sonic AND to give the 2 of them an easy way out to escape having to ether stand legal trial if sonic and Tails get them or being turned into Egg-weapons if Eggman were to get them. Its contrived on any level and the real thing that this make for a super underwhelming ending to a already questionable at best story arc. Prior to now would I have said Chao Races and Badnik bases was the worst story arc Evan has written so far for the comic but I think Overpowered now is a pretty good runner up. It handles its new characters arguably worse than Belles introduction was handled, relies on contrive situations all the time, is still being hold back by Ian's insistence on taking the edge out of hedgehog and feels massivly rushed on all ends. More like someone wanted to quickly tie up some lose ends than anything. The artwork including the fight scene choreography are the only thing I can say are good about all the issues but that alone can't save this story.

Well this whole storyline was a waste of time

This goes to show the difference between IDW Sonic and Tails with their Archie Sonic and Tails. In the IDW Sonic is ignorant of the pain of others and Tails is basically a follower of Sonic. While the Archie Sonic and Tails have suffered and made mistakes and learned from them and suffered losses and defeats from Robotnik.
