Fun fact for anyone wanting more info about the study he's referencing, it's not even just mice! These two researchers collected over 12,000 video clips over several years, and while mice were definitely the most common animal that was seen enjoying the wheel, they also saw rats, shrews, frogs, and slugs as well! They also documented the behavior often seen in domesticated mice where several want to run at the same time and they can't wait turns and they send the other flying 😂 (It was called "Wheel Running in the Wild" by Johanna H. Meijer and Yuri Robbers, and yes, they did share several videos that you can now find online!)

Deep? How? Americans and other HS love to gossip. Sure. Axiomatic. Undoubtedly started before cuneiform, papyrus, printing, telegraph, telephone, Teletype, radio, tv, facsimile, internet. What's his special insight? As far as drawing an analogy between running in place and gossiping, it strikes me as a false analogy. Wheeling is a type of endorphin-induving repetitive behaviour: drumming fingers, worry beads, running anywhere, stationary biking, and so on.... Gossiping isn't CAUSED by the Internet, but merely facilitates it, doesn't it. Gossiping is a passive aggressive attack on others which has multiple functions: using others' lives to make ours appear more important, passively attacking and gaining (imagined) dominance over others, bonding with others of the same aggressive ilk.... I doubt this guy is an ethologists. Judging by this brief look, he seems more like a superficial charlatan pandering to the GollyGeeWhizReally? folks. Regards

Even though Lions live their entire lives out in the open and would presumably have less of an evolutionary drive to find enclosed defensible spaces it was found that lions will sit in a refrigerator box. While wild lions will sit in a refrigerator box that has its top cut off (so that it is long with a small opening) they will spend more time in and will exibit more play behaviors when given a refrigerator box that has had its largest side cut open. So a less defensible and more exposed box is more appealing to them. And we have NO IDEA why.

I watched the full video and this was the idea that resonated with me the most. If we could harness this "short attention span" and point it in creative ways to ideas that help people grow we'd see humanity voluntarily accelerate themselves.

Michael has such a fresh perspective of everything, It's honestly quite comforting, Even if sometimes his takes are trying to make you uncomfortable on purpose, but in a way it shows how we're all the same
@paracame8162
@paracame8162 Год назад
@@DeltaOmaniac not really. when people bring up short attention spans, we compare it to people in the past, way before the internet or even the printing press. by proving that we're just this way no matter what we try to blame it on means we're not getting worse over the years and people just overreact to new technology like we have always done
@finice1142
@finice1142 Год назад
@@imalright48 i think that is a bit different. Peoples attention spans have decreased over time, but my guess would be that the amount of gossip hasnt really increased.
@justarandomcommenter570
@justarandomcommenter570 Год назад
@@finice1142 imo I think its the reverse. Our attention spans are the same, but the amount of gossip in our world has exponentially increased due to the internet. Because we have such a global access to all this gossip worldwide, its a bit of an info overload, so what may seem like shorter attention spans could really be our brains just trying to catch up in processing all the info being thrown at it...tho im no expert thats just my two cents on it...
