JDV. Another great video. I believe that the home arcade market will survive even if Arcade1Up doesn't. This could probably put some pressure on other companies to meet demand and/or maybe if possible, A1Up could end up having new owners maybe by later this summer. Only time will tell.

Arcade1up is a very, small, niche company in the grand scheme of things. If and when they go under, the home arcade community will be just fine
@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 8 месяцев назад
Well, they're niche when compared to Microsoft or Sony, but in the home arcade scene they're still the big dog... or at least they used to be. I do think the community would survive, but I also think it would hurt it.

I think they should do the Iircade route or have a SF Alpha cab I'm sure the community would love that
@evilgeniusentertainment

I've been advocating a la carte downloads and/or game packs to A1up for years now. Still doubt it will ever happen, but you never know. And a SF Alpha cab makes a ton of sense... IF they have the license.

The hobby was going on well before A1Up or AtGames hit the scene. We were building our own cabs from kits (or by hand) and messing with Raspberry Pi’s with usb encoders. The hobby isn’t going anywhere.
@evilgeniusentertainment

Agree - it's exposed the hobby to lots more people, which is a good thing.

And now A1up products gave people with no woodworking skills a product to mod with. And some PCB’s are softmoddable like the Simpsons.

@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 8 месяцев назад
Victor, I think that's a great idea for a separate show. For some titles - think STAR WARS, TRON, DRAGONS LAIR - that would for sure happen. Look at BURGER TIME - the price of that cab has done nothing but go up over time.
@carlo1132
@carlo1132 8 месяцев назад
Hey JDV, If A1up goes under the cabs should hold or improve in value based on your price paid. Def dont want to see it happen, XL's or Bust, they know what cabs get people excited, if they can spend a few hours on cad/cam and go XL it could be a good year...
@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 8 месяцев назад
I tend to agree - it would make existing cabs (especially the rarer titles/one with unique controls) go up in value. It will be very interesting to see if they ditch the Deluxe and go all in on XLs later this year. I def don't think we'll see that happen until the 4th quarter though.

Great and well thought video, JDV. Home arcades are here to stay whether Arcade1Up is around or not. There are so many companies putting them out, but basically Mame cabs. Not sure that’s really what a lot of people really want though.

Hey thanks Mike - glad you got something out of it. I guess we both think that the home arcade scene will survive even if A1up doesn't.
@robkrasinski6217

Well, I guess there’s also arcade cabinet kits that are blank in different sizes. Like GRS. But Arcade1up/Tastemakers is the only company with the good licenses besides New Wave Toys and Numskull. But most NWT products are limited edition and once they sell out you have to overpay on ebay. Maybe Numskull, too. And Arcade1up cabs eventually go out of production as new ones come out. But I don’t see any new cabs coming out from Tastemakers this year so far unless there are a few surprises.

Good video, EGE.. Arcade1up started the home arcade genre, but there will be others come right behind with better products! There are other products and companies that have failed or disappeared from home console space, but there are chat rooms/ fan groups that are still dedicated to the nostalgia of the products.

@sunquestenergyhomesolution96

Home arcade existed before Arcade1up came around but it was a very small niche market (I know because I couldn't afford to be part of it). You had 2 choices then. Buy expensive real arcade machine with one game that needed even more money to maintain. Or buy expensive multicade and spend even more money to customize it. Starting price for a multicade was $1000 for a cabinet, cheap monitor, joystick, buttons and didn't include hardware to play games. Arcade1up created a new market where everyone can afford an arcade machine. So if Arcade1up disappears so does that market.
@evilgeniusentertainment

That's a legit concern.

@@evilgeniusentertainment all these arcade purists/elitists who bash Arcade1up don't want to admit that before Arcade1up came along their world/market was slowly dying. I've seen the arcade aftermarket explode like an atomic bomb when Arcade1up showed up! They don't realize it would be suicide for their market if their wish for Arcade1up to disappear came true. Many businesses like Glen's GRS business would not take off or last.
@evilgeniusentertainment

Agree 100% - A1up's been great for the hobby. So while I think the hobby would survive, it would definitely be a blow, and could hurt quite a few 3rd party companies to boot.

I honestly believe A1U is biding their time. They sell to the retailers. Well...last I checked, Target, Walmart, etc have pages of cabs listed on their sites. I believe that A1U was probably advised to slow things down while they sell out the older models. Once demand exceeds what's available, I'm pretty sure we'll start to see more action from A1U.
@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 4 месяца назад
I hope you're right... but it isn't so much about whether or not they'll keep making Pac-Man, MK, and SF cabs (they will), but whether or not they'll make any new cabs with new titles. It's been a year since any new titles announced, with zero indication any are coming down the line. We might see an XL MK or SF or Class of '81 for X-mas, but that's it. But again, I hope I'm wrong.
@teddyy80

I've asked all over and no one knows how to do this for the arcade1up cab. Is there a way to access the Arcade1up NBA Jam PCB if you plug it into a computer? I ask because I have an extra PCB that was sent to me that's brand new. I really want these things. NBA Hangtime: the full original rosters, NBA Jam Tournament Edition: Jordan, Shaq, Breaking backboard, MK players and others that were removed after version 2, etc. Lastly the full rosters on NBA Jam. I actually only play Hangtime so if you could do anything with that or even better put the MK players, Jordan, Shaq on Hangtime man I would pay for that.
@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 8 месяцев назад
I think it must be possible, at least for some PCBs, because some people have figured out a way to side-load games. I know that at least the SIMPSONS, OUTRUN, and the 3 pinball games have been hacked into. But that's exactly as much as I know....

Great video JDV, unfortunately is hard not to think that Arcade1up may go under or completely shift their approach in what they want to sell. I do believe that the hobby will survive no matter what the outcome is. We have insane modders in the community and others like to play the arcades just like they remember growing up. It’s a shame if either A1UP decide to shift or goes under because Arcades is what got people interest in the first place to start the home arcade hobby.

It's a hopeful possibility that Arcade1UP is going the same route as Porsche and Lamborghini and now even Ferrari when they started to build SUV's in order to financially support their core philosophy of designing, engineering, building, and racing sportscars/supercars etc. If selling and promoting the Infinity game boards means Arcade1UP can stay profitable in the long term and then they bring us the cool classic arcade cabinet re-creations we all want then I'll be happy ☺
@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 8 месяцев назад
Oh for sure! Again, I don't care if they can make some money off of the those game boards, but not at the expense of what brought them to the dance in the first place. I like your analogy of sports car companies having to make SUVs - I hope you're right!

While it would slow down during a transition period of other companies picking up the slack, people would just get more creative ie, reskins, mods etc while waiting. Personally there are still tons of cabs that I still dont have and if they went out of business I wouldn't love what I have any less🙂
@evilgeniusentertainment

Thanks Biggggy. On one hand, I do understand trying to concentrate on the Deluxe lineup... but on the other, doing so doesn't prevent them from working on different skins, adding features like spectate mode, or fixing long known about bugs. The totality of circumstances paints a grim picture - but one that could be erased with the announcement of a couple of cabs. Time will tell as they say.

If A1up goes under Others will get licenses and put out some cabs I won’t keep rebuying them from anyone unless it’s something with unique controls . I have a bunch of PCs for gaming on top of all the 1ups. I think a lot of people will start grabbing multicades if 1up goes under as well But man how good would they do if they just announce 1 cab Just 1 There’s nothing on the horizon
@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 8 месяцев назад
Right? If they announced even 1 new cab, I think people would go crazy for it, regardless of title. BUT if it was a truly desired title, say ROBOTRON/SMASH TV, Q*BERT, or SF ALPHA, then the response would be even greater.
@Excaidus-Metal

Just because A1Up is putting the gameboard in a bigger promotion does not exactly mean they are going more in that direction. It could simply be that they are getting desperate to sell those too.

I’d be more interested at the value of the ones we have or plan to get obviously there are so many Pac Man, SF and Mk to go around but what about Tron or Ridge Racer or Frogger or Burgertime or Killer Instinct those ones that are no longer found new do there values increase on the second hand market as a result of the community dwindling or will they loose value since no one would care to own them anymore
@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 8 месяцев назад
I thinks that's 100% right - the "niche" cabs like TRON/BT/STAR WARS/DRAGONS LAIR would definitely go up in value because there weren't as many made, and because they are very hard to re-create if you're trying to DIY one. There's so many Pac-Mans I doubt they'd go up in value, at least not for years to come....

The home arcade community has existed well before Arcade 1up. The only thing that Arcade 1up takes with it if it goes under is exposure and accessibility through big box stores.
@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 8 месяцев назад
That accessibility is their one remaining ace-in-the-hole. But it's also probably what keeps them from making "niche" cabs like ROBOTRON or Q*BERT (and keeps making them do Pac-Man after Pac-Man cabs).
@ForeverLacey09
@ForeverLacey09 8 месяцев назад
@@evilgeniusentertainment If you ask me their income is driven by the niche community. They'll stagnate their own market if they keep releasing the same IP's year after year. What they should focus on is a limited run of new titles every year. That could be enough to keep people excited and it would induce a little FOMO.
@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 8 месяцев назад
That's the catch-22 of being in big box stores - they can't make cabs those stores say no to. And after the flop-zilla that was The Simpson and Blitz, they're not much inclined to go beyond Pac-Man/SF/MK. Yet it's those more "niche" cabs that have to be the focus of A1up if they are to grow/attract new fans (plus keep the ones they have already). They've painted themselves into a very tight corner....
@ForeverLacey09
@ForeverLacey09 6 месяцев назад
@@evilgeniusentertainment They could continue rolling out IP's that sell for their big box partners while also doing limited run of titles for the niche market.

A1up has not done themselves any favors. Even now, today, you see wild price fluctuations on their products, something I believe hurts them quite a bit. A1up's STAR WARS pinball games is still going for $749 at Kohls - an insane asking price considering the product itself and how long it's been on the market.
@liljazzy4021
@liljazzy4021 8 месяцев назад
I think it’s over. Aside from their missteps on the product level, I think the biggest mistake they made was utilizing RU-vidrs as their marketing department. Once people started realizing what a dumpster fire the “community” actually is, the company couldn’t separate themselves from the nonsense.
@Allen-v1r
@Allen-v1r 4 месяца назад
They are certainly going out of business due to management missteps. Just look at that rediculous marketing campaign right now. They are on borrowed time. I will say that I have bought many cabs these past few weeks in preparation for them going under.

They might not go under, but instead simply become a company that makes a Pac-Man arcade cab and an infinity game board. That's probably the best case scenario as it's clear we won't be seeing any new cabs this year.

Arcade could write some of the wrongs they have done with a parts store still.. high profit and make little on shipping each part, plus will give the community the feeling they care. Then they can sell arcades like new wave toys with pre orders and prices that are reasonable.. 1up got too big too fast and it went to there head..
@evilgeniusentertainment
@evilgeniusentertainment 8 месяцев назад
They've aggressively avoided some potential profit, haven't they? I cab see why they (perhaps) can't sell different skins due to licensing, but that wouldn't stop them from selling buttons, joysticks, screens, marquees (which they actually used to do), riser extenders, and the rest.

No, they can keep releasing deluxe cabs, it will not hurt them. Lots of us has been waiting to purchase the arcade we want, in deluxe versions. I only question why Gauntlet is a three player only when all other four player cabs, have four sets of controls. Only when they have exhausted their current cabs as deluxe versions, should they move forward to new products like Star Wars Pod Racer, Trilogy and Battle Pod. Spyhunter, Hard Drivin/Race Drivin, Teken, After Burner, etc.

Well, I think that's exactly what they plan to do - exhaust those Deluxes before they move on to something else. Heck, they have more then a dozen earlier other non-Deluxes they still need to sell too. But I do think not releasing at least one new cab every six months (at least) hurts them.
