I have heard it, time, and time again...'Bruce Lee was overrated'. But was he, or is there some form of jealousy lurking? Let us know what you really think.

There are plenty of martial artists after Bruce Lee who were just as good. His son Brandon Lee,Jean Claude Van Damme,Dolph Lundgren,Jet Li,Tony Jaa,Jackie Chan,Donnie Yen,MJW,Chuck Norris,Jeff Speaksman,Jason Statham... I would say Scott Adkins is the best martial artist i've ever seen in movies. Who was better we will never know because we have never seen them fighting Bruce. I think anyone of these i mentioned are capable of beating Bruce Lee and there are no fake records about them,people know all they do is movies just like Bruce and there is no reason to think he was invincible other than be a great fan of him. I am a fan of Van Damme but i don't think he is invincible,i think he is very good.

Reg Great post. Being of chinese origin myself my uncle who is older than Bruce and was raised there said there were some masters in China who had superior skills/knowledge (not necessarily superior in speed) to Bruce but remained unknown because it wasn't their ambition to be world champion or movie stars. It's deep knowledge etc of martial arts passed down generations and hundreds of years. Stuff that won't be taught in any western dojo. When I went to China years ago I saw some physical feats that I wouldn't believe if I didn't see it myself. However in the known world from the 40+ years I've seen in martial arts I've never seen anyone as fast, balanced, agile or as conditioned as Bruce.

Bruce Lee had the greatest combination of physical gifts as well as mental gifts. He had speed and power but also skill and reflexes. There are many legends in martial arts history, but Bruce Lee is the greatest anybody has ever seen to date.

before bruce lee came along no one cared about martial arts or fighting! bruce lee put martial arts and action films on the map and made them famous and popular! he also made physical fitness popular! there is no disputing that! most 'intelligent' people agree! i absolutely agree about point fighting! chuck norris is totally overrated as a fighter! he is good at acting tough in movies but he does not have the killer instinct of a full contact fighter! bruce lee was beyond full contact fighting! he was a creative genius and an anomaly!

Donnie Woods - chuck norris was a point fighter and actor! he does not have the heart to fight full contact and he definitely does not have the heart of a street fighter! chuck norris is known to be a gentlemen in real life and that is good! he is a good role model in martial arts and he has accomplished some things in his life! he is a good businessman! his intelligence is not even close to that of bruce lee nor is his conditioning or charisma! without 'Return of the Dragon' which bruce lee asked him to be in no one would even know who chuck norris is! chuck norris always rides on bruce lee's coattails because he knows that bruce lee made him famous!
@DrewNorton3712
@DrewNorton3712 6 лет назад
Silverfox Silverfox - that is fine with me! i am pretty sure floyd mayweather is also a huge fan of bruce lee! bruce lee inspired many professional fighters and actors! there are many interviews on youtube by professional fighters including mike tyson who say he inspired them! if you like bruce lee why not just say he is a great actor and give him credit for his accomplishments and then say that there are other martial artists and fighters who may be better or equal to bruce lee who have not gotten their fair share of recognition! it may just be that your comments sound like you are against bruce lee instead of in favor of those who are 'underrated' or not given the credit they deserve! it is true that some people overrate bruce lee but for the most part his fans usually are students of his in some way and they know his teachings! like i said before this is all just our opinions! there are a few people who are always degrading bruce lee in all his videos! it is basically the same people who do it over and over again! brother teacher is saying no one has paralleled his accomplishments and personally i have not seen anyone in the history of martial arts who has!

I have been following Bruce Lee since the 1960s Green hornet TV series years. I remember reading karate magazines about Bruce written that one time he beat up 20 Thai Boxers simultaneously. Bruce Lee made Chuck Norris famous. Bruce was ahead of his time.
@sundayaito2230
@sundayaito2230 6 лет назад
Carl Parish, yep, Bruce Lee made Chuck Norris famous; that is old news. But to suggest that Bruce Lee beat up 20 Thai boxers simultaneously is the most ridiculous and craziest thing to say. I don't care where you gleam your story from. This just isn't true. It is comments like this that does more harm than good to Bruce Lee's legacy. The source of your story are only projecting themselves as idiots and I am hoping by extension, you do not wish to be classified as an idiot yourself.

Sunday Aito : the same magazine article talk about his one inch punch, and also how he can take a coin from your hand before you close your hand. That was back around 1971 in a karate magazine. Too bad there’s no video to prove this about Bruce beating 20 Thai boxers. Keep up the great work. I love your videos.
@sundayaito2230
@sundayaito2230 6 лет назад
Carl Parish, lol, man. That isn't my video. That isn't me in video but a gentleman by name( bro) Reginald Stroud. I have subscribed to his channel and have found his videos to be fascinating. Anyhow, about what you read in that karate magazine: the one inch punch and Bruce's ability to take a coin from a person's hand are demonstrations and feats that are well documented with Bruce and as such factual. As for Bruce beating up 20 Thai boxers, that is purely the figment of someone's imagination. Sometimes, people say outrageous things about Bruce Lee so as to sell their magazines or whatever it is they are selling. They do this because they know Bruce Lee fans are fanatical about their hero and are ready to believe hook line and sinker, anything that is being fed to them about Bruce lee.

Who was better? Any professional boxer or collegiate wrestler could have beaten Bruce Lee (if he had ever actually agreed to fight anyone). I think it's pretty obvious after seeing 20 plus years of MMA that Bruce Lee was not a real fighter. He was an incredible "martial artist", but not a fighter. If he were a fighter, he would have actually fought, instead of wasting time making movies. Instead, we have a few clips of some old grainy film and third person anecdotal evidence to attest to his supposed skills, but no ACTUAL evidence of him actually fighting anyone. The entire idea that Bruce Lee was some next level fighter is ridiculous.

Joseph Taverna, brother Jim Kelly, bless his soul, did not tell it as it is. He only said things people wanted to hear. How is saying Bruce Lee is great at sparring prove of anything? Every time brother Jim Kelly turns around, he is being questioned about Bruce Lee. This happens where ever he goes, whatever he is doing, and the moment he is recognized. He figured, okay, since there is no prove of a real Bruce Lee fight, he might as well tell people the little he knows about Bruce Lee that will impress them hence the famous line that, "people don't know how great Bruce Lee is" and then went on to say, "Bruce is great at sparring using either hands or legs" this to me doesn't say much of Kelly telling it as it is.

Bruce lee was a great Martial artist. He was physically strong. He created Jeet kune do. There was a video in which his friend say that he had a punching bag which is heavier. His friend also was a martial artist but he couldn't even move it. But Bruce he DID. He it made it swing. There could be people equal to him but I don't hardly believe that. He was a legend. They call him cause he really is. His power is amazing. His speed. He was asked to be much slower since the camera couldn't capture the movement. I personally think Bruce lee is the best.

Bruce Lee's lead sidekick to the knee was virtually impossible to stop. If your weight was on your front leg for a faction of a second, there is no way to stop that kick from landing. Your knee would be destroyed. The great Joe Lewis stated that he could not block or move in time to stop the lead sidekick to the knee. The fact that Bruce wasn't tall actually gave him an advantage when throwing that kick. He would feint to your head and throw that kick. In a street fight, I don't think anyone on the planet could stop that kick or move out of the way in time. Now ponder the mechanics and visualize this. His sidekick was his forte. The speed, the snap and the timing of that kick was mindblowing! That single technique meant it was game over!

Bruce lee was the best. People who say that bruce is overrated are just kids. As mature adult, you value and honor what a man accomplish in history, while being a kid you just value what you see in present time or on tv. For example a kid would say that soldiers who fought in ww1 are not real soldiers because they didnt have modern artillery.

Vic Moore said otherwise. Last time I checked he was one of the greatest Champions of all time. You know how I know that because there is evidence of him competing. Just because everyone says something is true doesn't mean it's true. A whole bunch of people thought the Earth was flat at one time and a small few proved that wrong. So you question doesn't change facts. Fact is he never competed against his peers. Fact: Renowned mixed martial artist are now ripping apart his technique that he displays in videos. Like the famous one inch punch (I mean push) that has been debunked over and over again. I'd like to pose a question to you would Michael Jordan be considered the greatest if he didn't prove against some of the greatest of his time? I think you fandom is blocking you objectivity sir.

Best at what exactly? Best at fighting? Best at holding exhibitions? Best at giving interviews? What do you people mean by ( best martial artist ) ever? Zero fights on camera, zero championships in any art, zero altercations caught on tape. You bring up point karate as not legit fighting, well when did anyone ever see Bruce Lee actually fight someone no holds barred mma style? Furthermore lets bring up the idea that he somehow birthed mma and modern day martial arts. How many of Lee's students or jeet kun do practitioners have been champions in either Pride k1 fighting , ufc or any other mma tournament? How come we have never seen anyone in 40 years replicate or use Lee's techniques to any degree of efficiency, let alone dominate the fight world? The answer is simple, it's all theatrics. The fact you people think a 5"7 135 lbs man was the most dangerous being on the planet is laughable. Remember this one thing, most people believed kung fu and chinese martial arts to be real life effective fighting techniques until a man named Bruce came along and showed the world it was mostly horseshit. Want an answer as to who was a better fighter than Lee? Literally every single boxer of that time. Why? Because I can find footage of them fighting.

my issue with the bruce lee detractors is alot of them first off are MMA fanboys who just cant get passed the fact they what they do doesnt measure up to any and all that bruce lee accomplished .It's why dana white name dropped bruce lee or should i say hitched his wagon to that legacy cause lets face facts long term MMA is dead theres no foresight in that sport its 15 mins in the lime light are over you know i dont usually believe in get rich quick schemes but MMA is proof that you can get rich quick like dana white did he'll never have to work again as for his fighters .well theres always WWE just ask Rhonda rousey ..They only want to focus on the 4 movies he did when he was alive they completely ignore/neglect the fact that he spent his life before 1970 developing his fighting system .Bruce lee was also a business and he understood what better way to advertise his martial art philosophy than through the movies .If you watch the movies they mirror his teachings and philosophy on martial arts any one with a martial arts school in some form or another understands marketing and advertising for your school "business" As dan inosanto said in the book "Fighting spirit"Lee planned on opening up a chain of martial arts school across the nation like mcdonald's .Bruce lee earned the title of action star AFTER HIS DEATH its what the fans labeled him as but before that he was a martial arts instructor practitioner.Now as a lee fan im practical in that i know lee wasn't no superman or unbeatable but as a fan i think we need to give him is proper dues Lee saw the movies as a platform to promote his martial art and get more people into his schools thats why he got involved with movies it was to promote the one thing he was actually good at and had mastered by the time of his death which was fighting MMA fan boys and haters seem to ignore that

The answer is simple by giving an comparison. What Bruce Lee was for Martial Arts is the same as what Michael Jackson did for the Dance. He enhanced a lot of moves/steps which by itself were invented (many of them) by someone else. Michael looked around, studied and made it better. Even the energy he used was the same, fluently and explosive movements. And of course the characteristic sounds they both made. (Hihi and Bruce's WHATAA!) They both had to fight racism. Back to your question: Lee and Jackson made a career in the spotlght. Both were child stars. (Bruce in acting, Michael in Singing and dancing) Can we honestly say that there were no better dancers of fighters? We just do not know that because we only see what is in the spotlight. But I am convinced that both Lee and Jackson were incredible masters and no human on earth could match them.

Critical thinking tears this apart. No proven tournament record, no grading or mastering, confusion between trained WITH and trained BY, timeline doesn't add up, physical size and lots of very strange stories about his time in China, a country where simply speaking wrong of the 'Chinese Way' can make you socially outcast. Without a doubt he was an icon and he did well at martial arts, his acting was always mediocre except where his role involved him being Bruce Lee. Obviously we cannot put Bruce into a combat situation as he is not with us anymore however many people have verifiable abilities and proven track records especially now with MMA being so popular. So if I was to compare Bruce (bantam, feather, light, welter weights) against fighters in these weights he would probably be competitive but not necessarily dominating.

OK let's just clear something up here, MMA, KICKBOXING,, JUDO, POINT KARATE, BOXING none and I mean NONE of this formats or styles are full contact, the closest to it is possibly MMA But even then there are rules and it can be stopped, I'm a former kickboxing instructor, yes I'm a black belt, I've also trained in krav maga, like the man in the video rightfully states point karate is Not fighting, other styles of combat sport such as kickboxing or MMA is much more intense and you WILL be tested, But that is still what I simply state as continuous fighting or even sparing, hence yes it can get nasty but it can and will usually get stopped, Gentlemen the real and true turmoil of full contact is outside on the streets, real full contact is primal because it's not about a trophy or a title, in fact it's about being able to walk or run away from an incident that could end up in intensive care or indeed death, this is FULL TRUE FULL CONTACT, we mean strikes to the groin, finger jabs in the eye sockets, snap or sweep kicks to the knee breaking a leg or arm locks to full extention causing snappage, wrenching someone's keck to breaking point, people I'm sure you now get the picture. This is the sort of criteria that Bruce Lee constantly practiced, he didn't see the point in hitting something half hearted cos he saw it as a waste of energy expense, a kick or punch should be used to its full purpose, all you people saying chuck morris would beat Bruce are deluded, chuck was a champion at a game to see who was first to score points and you were not even allowed to even make contact most of the time, chuck was a champion at pretend fighting, he most certainly was not an actual fighter because that was Not fighting, Bruce Lee had street fights with no rules, he learnt what worked and what did not, it was because Joe Lewis spending time with Bruce that got Joe more into heavier contact competition and they came up with kickboxing, and Lewis was the first to bring it to the public and reigned supreme because he was training with Bruce Lee, so please stop this nonsense that oh these so called champions could beat Bruce, they did a sport that had rules and regulations, Bruce trained for survival in the most extreme methods possible, he was in a totally different league to them its about time you realised this. Even Mike Tysoe knows this and he was a real fighter aswell as boxer.

All here say. No proof that he was ever in any of these so called street fights. For a guy who supposedly had been in all these legendary street fighter where are all the scars and cuts. I know he was a bad man but no visible evidence of injuries on his body. You named all these moves are you telling he never got caught with any of these moves. Once. I have scars from just falling when I was a kid but the man who was in all these street fights as no scars on his face or body. He was just that great. Stop. Stop giving theory and wild tells. Here's evidence check out Bruce punching display on the heavy heavy bag. That technique he's using would get him destroyed against any professional striker. His 1 inch punch is a damn push. His hand speed that could not allegedly could be recorded is on a camera. We have footage that we can witness and see that his hand speed could be recorded by a camera. Bruce Lee was ahead of HIS time, comparing how he would fare TODAY is a little unfair as many martial arts have developed, training and fitness programs improved. (a lot of that thanks to the influence Bruce Lee had btw). He also didn't compete as competitions have restrictions/rules. He trained for all out unarmed combat, and would have stood his ground, also if he was alive and 32 years of age today. (in fact Bruce would be 76 today (2017) ) Would he lose, that depends on who he would be fighting and the circumstances, but he would at the very least inflict some serious damage to whoever attacked him. Is there a better fighter out there today, possibly, we'll never know , it would be pure speculation as Bruce is no longer with us. Fact is, he was incredibly good, incredibly intelligent, founded a unique martial art (and it isn't a bunch of things borrowed and cobbled together, almost everything was analysed, adapted, modified to suit him and his art, if it didn't fit it was out, if it fitted with adjustments, it was modified etc all on solid scientific foundations) and the martial arts world has changed for the better thanks to him. He opened many people's eyes. There's no one else I can think off that has all those qualities and could say the same. This is part of the reason why he is still popular today, and continues to be topic of debates like this and that alone should make people take notice. This guy was (and is) a legend.

@@Fightingat40 Easy, Joe Lewis was a student of him and went on to win many fights thanks to the advice and teachings Bruce Lee gave him, (Chuck Norris did too back in the late '60's) There are probably others in later years but I don't follow combat sports that closely I'm not sure who in the current day and age that have JKD training and use/used it in the ring . In regards to Bruce and his martial arts, you clearly haven't done your homework. If you had even the slightest knowledge on Bruce Lee's martial art development and background, you would know what you are saying on how he developed it is completely based on misunderstanding and or fabrications. There are several fighters today and in years gone by, that had / have huge respect for Bruce Lee's martial arts accomplishments, Manny Pacquiao , Mike Tyson, Bas Rutten, to name a few, you may not like those fighters, but you can't deny their accomplishments and they would know / recognise a thing or two about Bruce Lee's abilities and knowledge of fighting. Bruce was the real deal, but he's dead now, so all we have left are his writings/studies, as well as his students and their students. If you are at all interested, I suggest you go and seriously study his work (start by reading the books that have his writings/notes in it, if you have any understanding of fighting you will hopefully understand his notes and see that he knew what he was talking about), and not rely on what people tell you, or what you read on social media perhaps. You'll see that he was far ahead of his time, his knowledge on how the human body works, nutrition, strength and cardio training and of course martial arts was second to none. Of course the alternative is that you choose not to do so, it's up to you.

@@Fightingat40 Joe Lewis was already successful yes, but he himself stated publicly that he improved loads by taking advise and lessons from Bruce Lee (there's an interview here somewhere on youtube where you can hear him talk about it), and that helped him further in his career as a fighter. Bas Rutten has indeed said that Bruce Lee would lose a UFC fight (but he IS a big fan of his ideas and approach, which were revolutionary for his day, again, Bas understood that Bruce was not 'just an actor' and is very clear about that too) and has said that if Bruce Lee had had the opportunity to refine his training to adapt to the way UFC fighters work, he'd be quite successful in his weight class. BTW Bruce Lee never claimed he was unbeatable, but he simply stated that he was very confident in his abilities, and if someone would pick a fight with him, he'd give it his all and not be intimidated. These superhuman attributes that people attach to him are frankly BS, but to put him down as 'just an actor' and that he couldn't fight is equally BS. People seem to want proof of those abilities and for a lot of people it isn't validated because he never did any fights, simply because he wasn't interested in tournament fights and being restricted by rules etc. It seems to be however that you don't recognise his accomplishments, or understand them. That's fine. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Bruce Lee trained "every part of his body" (lol) but he did so with the intent of creating the ultimate fighting machine, as opposed to a bulky overly muscled body. When you're talking of fighting, of course one should search for the champions in the "ring/caged sports". (which personally I would go with the K-1 style champions in the stand up, and the BJJ style in the ground game. But Bruce Lee was a "anything goes type of fighting that included eye gouges, and throat and groin strikes. So it is difficult to compare since there is no organized competition in this field of fighting..

"Real fighting" is something we kinda forgot, which is a good thing because we are less war-like. Example. The javelin in the Olympics. "The javelin harkens back to the The Peloponnesian Wars." I learned that in Revenge of the Nerds. The javelin was used to make shish kabobs out of your enemies. The javelin was used to kill deers to put food on the table back in the days. In the Olympics, you throw the javelin and you hit NOTHING! Fencing in the Olympics is a game of tag, like point Karate. It's nothing like real swords that can cut off limbs and stab. And you don't win because you stab first but still get stab second. That's in the Olympics, not real life. Boxing is not even real fighting. A boxing rule is you cannot hit from behind. Hitting from behind the best way to hit. That's how fighter pilots hit. They call it dog fighting. That's how dogs fight by going behind to they can bite and not be bitten.

Do you also believe that Bruce Lee took out 20 Thai boxers in a real fight? This is all bearing in mind that Bruce Lee is not a proving fighter. (The story about the 20 Thai boxers was definitely made up.) You made a lot of points that makes answering this question difficult. For example if someone says Bruce Lee was overrated in the sense that he was not some demigod who could beat everyone easily does that automatically mean he wasn't good at all? There are Bruce Lee fans who are extremists the "fanboys" who say that Bruce Lee was the absolute best FIGHTER of all time and if you say anyone could beat him they will get very defensive and insult you. I think that is not only immature but a disgrace to Bruce Lee's legacy because instead of talking about his contribution to the popularity of Martial Arts including his iconic movies, philosophy, physical fitness, skill and knowledge of Martial Arts we start arguing over a myth. If we're talking about greatness as a Martial Artist vs. ability as a fighter those are two entirely different things. You can be influential and respected as a Martial Artist and be an average fighter. You also said to keep the discussion restricted to Bruce Lee's era but mentioned Michael Jai White. White is not relevant to Bruce Lee's era as he was only 5 years old when Bruce Lee died. So neither Michael Jai White nor any Martial Artist his age or Professional Fighter competing in MMA can be named as being greater than Bruce Lee in his era. Otherwise I could give names like Anderson Silva, Georges St. Pierre, Jon Jones, Demetrious Johnson and many other great MMA champions who could have beaten Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee would be a man out of time against them which is hardly fair. But I get the impression that this isn't a "who could beat Bruce Lee in a fight" sort of discussion and more of a "If Bruce Lee wasn't a great Martial Artist who would you put above him" sort of debate. I do not hate Bruce Lee and do not wish to disrespect his legacy so this question doesn't really apply to me. You also acknowledged that there were Martial Artists on his level or better who just weren't as visible so you're not even saying Bruce Lee was the best just that he had clear talent which no one should deny. I believe the determination of greatest Martial Artist is subjective. Bruce Lee was famous for his movies but he wasn't just an actor. He lived and breathed Martial Arts. In terms of fighting skill I do believe he could handle himself against many in his era and several Martial Artists who trained with him acknowledge that. If he had gotten in to a full-contact combat sport like MMA and trained like a modern fighter I think he would have gotten even better as a fighter which I believe is a separate issue from being a great Martial Artist.

@MysticNinjaJay
@MysticNinjaJay 6 лет назад
When did he say that? If so, yes of course that is a lie. Conor McGregor has already been beaten by Artemij Sitenkov, Joseph Duffy, Nate Diaz and Floyd Mayweather. I did hear Conor McGregor say that he believes Bruce Lee could be a champion in the UFC and that he was very impressed by the fluidity of his movement. In fact they teach Jeet Kune Do at Straight Blast Gym where Conor McGregor trains. My opinion on that is if Bruce Lee were resurrected from the dead and immediately had a fight with a UFC champion in any of the divisions he would lose. But if he had time to train for MMA properly and build on his skills with some experience I think it is possible that he could be a champion. So let's say that he trained for 3-4 years at a top MMA gym and got 10-15 fights against progressively better competition and got to stay in his prime then I think he stepped in the Octagon and fought a current champion he might be able to take a belt. But he would need that experience. This is essentially the same opinion as Bas Rutten. I don't doubt that Bruce Lee was an amazing Martial Artist and a good fighter by the standards of his era but he would need more training and experience to be on the level of modern Mixed Martial Artists.

Conor actually said that Mayweather can not bring any other MMA fighters that are like him to spar with and that he would have to reincarnate Bruce Lee to mimic McGregor as only he could move like him. This is definitely not the same as saying if Bruce Lee was alive today he is the only man who could beat him which wouldn't even be true if he said it. A lot of MMA fighters respect Bruce Lee. He was the most famous Martial Artist in the world and many fighters today were inspired by Bruce Lee. Some fighters consider it a great compliment to say that they fight like Bruce Lee in the movies. You may recall that Anderson Silva named his documentary "Like Water" and quotes Bruce Lee. Cung Le said he got his famous Flying Scissor Sweep from watching Bruce Lee do it in Enter the Dragon. Conor McGregor clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Bruce Lee and wants to be considered the Bruce Lee of this generation. Many fighters and Martial Artists including movie stars like Jet Li and Donnie Yen admire and respect Bruce Lee. When it comes to actual fighting I think if Bruce Lee were alive in his prime today with the opportunity to train and he wanted to do MMA he would be eager to learn more and improve on his Martial Arts skills.

Dude... most of the people bashing Lee don't say he wasn't good for his time... but when people start saying crazy shit like: Bruce Lee would rule MMA today... you gotta draw the line and call bullshit. He was ahead of his time, but he was behind THIS times.

Depends on what you mean by better. It’s impossible to compare him to any fighter because, in spite of all the hype, he left behind a trail of zero filmed bouts. All we have is a string of stories. We all know how stories build into legends. He may be a great martial artist but anyone claiming he was the best fighter is doing so with no substance.

The people out there that could beat Bruce Lee never cared about being famous or proving anything . I give Brice all the props in the world for all he has done for this world . But he is just a man and all men are beatable . There are billions of people on this planet . There is no way you are going to be able to beat everybody . The best Martial Artist hide in the shadows . They do not seek the fame and the glory

People either misunderstood him, or are yealous. Was he beatable, probably, he never claimed he wouldn't be. People have given him some godlike status, something he disliked. He didn't like the name 'superstar' . This is not to say that he wasn't good, he said himself that he was selfsufficient, and he didn't fear anyone. He had a true fighter/warrior mentality. That alone makes him a formidable opponent. Don't forget he was a human, and there is probably someone out there today, that could give him a run for his money. He would give a tremendous fight however and not at all easily defeated in a one on one fight, in fact I'd still think purely because of his deep rooted understanding of total combat, he would be able to deal with many different opponents and probably defeat them sooner or later. But don't just view him as a fighter. He developed his own martial art, he was a very philosophical man, and had figured out how to live his own life. That to me, is an even greater acchievement, than just being a martial artist. Not many of us manage to figure out how to live our lives and live day to day. He set goals, and strived to acchieve them, every day, all day.

There is a rumor that Bruce put on his school's door that he would take any challenge, anywhere anytime from anybody, and they say he offended the invite martial arts community in California by that and did receive many challenges of which he did have issue with two of them.

You left out the experts who came to the conclusion that his technique was amateur at best. There's no evidence of him fighting and the people that promoted him were actors playing roles in his films. Of course they're going to back him up and lie to keep the myth going. Any professional boxer, judo artist or MAA fighter of that time would have beaten the crap out of Bruce. Anytime he sparred he was well padded, he never won one fight and never enterred one tournament. He's just like any of those teachers out there who claim to be this and that who then get beaten up by MAA fighters. Anyone and punch into thin air or hit pads but to get in the ring is a different ball game. He was an actor who was very good at making himself look good but his technique wasn't good according to professionals who studied him.

Some People think Bruce didn't really proved himself as a real fighter but he was great so thats the dilemma. He died young and was small so they think he was bull shit. But how do you compete if you are a dirty street fighter. That you had to because of your small size and where you grew up.

in real life Bruce Lee did not have any enemies, so he really didn't fight in no one enough to show off his martial art abilities he didn't have trouble until he went to Hollywood and start making movies and being famous that's where his troubles came in at.

Your argument is really weak...public perception can easily be distorted,and great public figures always get overhyped by the masses,search the story of Big Boss (a videogame character), it's a great metaphore for how,trough time,legends are told and passed on about people that were not the real deal. Bruce Lee has no recorded fights,no recorded tournaments,and all accounts of his fights are from his disciples ir admirers...of course no fighters in his time talked about him,because he was not a fighter... present to me a FACT about bruce lee's so called"supreme skill" and ill be impressed,but the catch is there are no proofs,aside from his movies,that are,of course,movies

michal jai white knows how to fight no doubt not going to take anything from him at all but he's bigger bulkier slower than lee who has speed advantage in spades .He knew that being bulkier would slow down a fighter and was not effective for a fighter to be be big and bulking .Also lee didnt train for weight classes he trained real life self defense he knew how to fight guys twice his size verses someone who is trained in a fixed environment with weight class and rules

Real people versus movie people. Stallone saw Chuck Wepner took a beating against Muhamad Ali for 15 rounds. In that moment, he WISHED he could be Chuck Wepner, and wrote Rocky. Who is more famous? Sylvester Stallone or Chuck Wepner? Bruce Lee was in the movies when he was born, literally.

If Bruce's abilities weren't verified by legendary martial artists like Joe Lewis ("father of American Kickboxing"), Chuck Norris, Mike Stone...etc. Then I too would be questioning Bruce's abilities too. As all of it is heresy. With no photos of his street fights or competition fighting (which he didn't believe in). Very few of us knew him personally. Were around him in his personal life. Was he ever challenged by name fighters? Etc. Yet, as said..hard to argue with numbers. Hard to pull the wool over millions of eyes. And he has millions of fans. To this day. Martial artists and non. People are questioning the credentials of Frank Dux (Bloodsport character played by JCVD). As there is no documented proof of the Kumite. And in his case no credible martial artists vouching for Frank Dux's abilities. So amazing decades after the death of Bruce Lee we're talking about him still on RU-vid. Magazines still feature his story. His techniques. Can we say that of any other martial artist?
