"Do you have a quarter? You'll get it back when you return the dish." I'm wrecked! And the wine glass! To be fair, Big Lots does sell a fair amount of real groceries.
Y'all, I suggested the character name "Old Man Blair" to the Southern Things crew because I thought it would be funny. Lol! I didn't know what they were gonna do with it, so I was caught off guard by the hilarity, when they came up with a seasoning called Old Man Blair's Butt Rub". Haha!
Old Man Blair's Butt Rub sounds like a legitimate Southern product that was originally meant for rump roast but turned out to be great on all kinds of meat.
Do you not shop the Aldi aisle of shame? I know I have seen seasonal place settings. Just gotta be quick. Those shoppers on Wednesday morning are like wolves picking out the best of the Aldi Finds.
@@amyschmelzer6445so true! My husband said he needed some small bento boxes for his flight bag. I grabbed my recent Aisle of Shame collapsible bento box purchases😂
"Ha! Again, seriously, another customer? ''Yeah, whad'ya want?' 'I'd like to check out'' "Oh not again.! What do you people want from me?" Yep, the true Dollar General experience. Ryan's been to one.
Ours has a self checkout the a worker has to watch you check out. Defeats the point of having a self checkout that you have use an employee. Waiting for them to come because they’re the only one in the store, hovering over you. I don’t like to there because there isn’t personal space, the people are just doing their jobs, but my husband goes because it’s a few minutes down the road.
I'm so honored my dialogue was picked for this Sketch Cobbler premiere. I loved how the discount stores' "personalities" and cooking challenge show were woven together. So creative!
I used to work at Dollar General. stuff would always show up in random places. usually after you had reported that you were out. That was spot on! lol. And they never allow enough payroll to keep someone at the register.
I was in a DG last week. 1 person working, self checkout closed, a long line and he ran out of bags. Didn’t think to check out the gourmet food section.
@@alabamaguns3684 I'm also a former DG employee (though its been a few years) and I have to say that the job sucks. I had to stock shelves and do register at the same time because corporate refuses to employ enough people to actually run the store. Its why everything is always a mess and why you can't find an employee when you need one. They have to do everything and get paid shit so why should employees even care? I also had to once clean up poop off the ground in the front entrance because DG has the habit of attracting the weirdest customers. The assistant manager on duty quit the next day. It was bad. I only worked there because it was in walking distance and needed the money for school. Also despite the fact that we were "supposed" to be the "best and cleanest" DG store in the county, the store eventually closed down because corporate didn't want to renew the lease to the building. I'm never going back to a Dollar General again. 🙄
@@alabamaguns3684 I always want my receipt. I’m probably one of the few people it seems who uses them in taxes to get my money back because of sales tax. Workers always seemed so annoyed. But, $6k is worth the hassle to me.
4:29 Truly the best sponsor that this channel has ever seen. Sure, Old Man Blair's is always great for elevating proper BBQ pulled pork but everyone knows its fantastic "secret" is preventing everyday chafing, if you know what I mean. The flavor changed when they switched to plastic containers but no one believes me except people my age. I keep two open bottles on hand and one at the back of the cupboard hidden away so I never accidentally run out. I will never forget the Summer of '72 when there was a nationwide shortage. I still get PTSD flashbacks and occasional nightmares: Despite my careful rationing that year, I ran out and couldn't get any for two straight weeks in July. Never again.
This was great! Such talent….it was seamless! If I hadn’t seen the criteria prior to the sketch, I would never have guessed it was a cobbler. Well done! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Loved it! The whole thing was funny, but when Aldi (no S!) asked for the quarter, I laughed out loud. I love this whole Improv idea, and I hope you continue.
Half the time when arriving at Arby's, sorry for the "s", someone returning a cart just passes it on to you. Even if I did have to give the quarter, I've never gotten one back. On a side note, they do have quality products at generally reasonable prices.
Spot on! Please do more Sliced episodes! You could have a variety of competitors: types of tea, gas stations, pizza shops, grannies, the church ladies, so many more!
texas has a Scottish comunity! or so i heard on the late Craigh Ferguson show. but yeah, look for a medium sized town with lots of social events and a few stand up comedy clubs, and you should be good!
You are so very welcome to come, but I have to warn you that anyone acclimated to Scottish weather is simply going to die in the heat outside of maybe January.
@@alysoffoxdale HI there, I would love to come and I feel I would be genuinely welcome from all the messages and from what I see on this channel. but I did think about the difference in heat. If its above 18 degrees C here, we think the world is on fire...really nice of you to take time to respond...
I'm just glad to see a sketch. I may have missed them but they seem to be rare these days. The dollar general was real. Sometimes the manager is the stocker, otherwise it's usually the cashier. Just ring the bell, they'll come running when they get ready.
Would love to see you guys perfect this format. I think more work will only make things better. Plus, it's really unique and adds community interaction, which is always great!
Great job, everyone !👏 all of it was great! The butt rub, the awkward prerequisite line put into a phone call, and the goldfish 🐠. Up here in Canada, the quarter is a loonie, and it's Walmart ! 😂 More please 👍🇨🇦✌️
This was very fun. I go to a 24 hour play festival every year and it's exactly like this with drawing random genres and quotes from a hat and writing a brand new play.
I've never been to Big Lots or Aldi but Dollar Generals are everywhere in my area and I am proud to say that that is my exact experience whenever I go in any of those stores
The Dollar General part was spot on. When you go to check out, the cashier is either stocking shelves somewhere deep within the store, mopping something up oblivious to anything around them, talking on their phone behind some display or smoking a cigarette outside, and they seem either surprised or aggravated when they finally see you after five minutes or so of you waiting patiently.
Excellent! That was one helluva sketch. I thought "Old Man Blair" would be the toughest, but you took that and ran it to perfection! First rate, y'all, well done.
