Are you taking a Gap Year before uni? Or even after uni? Do you have any idea what your plan is? Mollie and I have both ended up having what we call a 'Gap Life' after finishing Sixth Form. We have both saved up money doing various jobs, embarked on many big trips and documented our journeys on social media which we are now lucky to call our career.
But we know there are so many of you who have Uni on the cards and are planning an incredible Gap Year full of travel and fun. You have one year - how do you make the most of it? What should you do?
Mollie and I have taken the travel experience we have over the years and come up with an exact plan of what we reckon we would do if we took a Gap Year again!
Obviously this won't be everyone's perfect Gap Year, so TELL US - what is your plan??

You're lucky your mom never forced you to go to school. Mine did, and still does. She hates travelling, and doesn't want me to go, though its my passion. I'm in school now for the next four years but I sill wish I did a gap year to travel. I can't wait to graduate and go wherever I want afterwards

So in late february i will quit the job and head to Australia and travel down the East Coast for about 3 months! I am so excited! Thank you guys for lots of inspiration, i can't wait!

I love both channels from you girls, so helpful and full of great tips and tricks :) Unfortunately I'm not sure I have 100% confidence to go backpacking, but would love to travel with a little more luxury if I had the opportunity. I do however travel by working onboard Disney cruise ships. It's obviously rather different, but still allowed me to see many different places whilst having the career that I love :) fyi...both yours and Mollie's packing videos have also been very helpful when I've been packing for 8 months to live in a ship cabin so Thank You and also thank the lord for packing cubes!!! lol. keep up the great work girls xxx

I'll be heading out after uni so i'll be going september 2019 for a year me thinks i'll be going solo too :) What are you gonna do for ur first few weeks, just hostel and straight to work? Or are you gonna apply for jobs and stuff at your country first? hostels/ room sharing? etc?

MLG420 Mcswaggerten I’m going to try to start looking for farm work as soon as I arrive in Sydney to get my 3 months out the way. Then I’m planning to travel the east coast for 3 months. These are rough plans and aren’t set in stone yet but want to do something along those lines :)

I guess with budget traveling it’s easier than you think. By using buses instead of flights, hostels instead of hotels it can really be cheap if you save up a bit😊

i took 2 years after school to work for a year and travel for a year, started in aus with a working holiday visa and i regret the whole thing because it didnt work out and i came back after 3 months and applied to uni. i hate it because i sound so negative but i just wish i did it differently and now i cant change it and wasted so much time and money

Try not to think of it like that ☺️ there will have been many lessons that you learnt because of it and that’s the best thing that can come out of it! Sometimes shit happens but you’ll always come out the other end a wiser person than what you were before

It's still OK to do a gap year after graduation before real life starts right? :D Reallyyyyy not ready for the hamster wheel but I literally want to do exactly this! Aus WHV, maybe a bit of NZ, followed by SE Asia then back to London!

I’ve travelled a lot already with my family (my moms a pilot so tickets are soooo much cheaper) and I live in south east Asia. I think if I did a gap year I would go to Australia and possibly Europe. Do you have any tips for Europe. Places I’ve been and my thoughts on them Hongkong - where I’m from so I’m a bit biased but a really good ‘base’ close to many other countries Thailand (specifically Phuket) - very touristy in certain areas but very beautiful, I plan to go to koh Samui for my grad trip and it’s apparently a great place for partying Philippines - beautiful can be dangerous (like many other SEA countries) Borneo - I did a school trip to and eco hotel in the rainforest and did service work , very hot wet and conservative but it was an amazing experience Cambodia - highly recommended, the culture and history is so interesting. Killing fields and the genocide museum are a must do Bali - haven’t been in years but ubud is great New Zealand - one of my favourite places I visited but very expensive Paris - I was only there for 2 days but I definitely would recommend Mainz Germany - once again i was only there for two days but it was during a festival of some kind so it was so much fun. It looks like a stereotypical German village Italy - I went to the amalfi coast during October at the end of the season and it was still busy. DO NOT go for peak season it takes sooo long to get anywhere (the roads are narrow and many turns). The weather at the time was beautiful and on the colder side. I highly recommend the ‘path of the gods’ hike
@lilap3759
@lilap3759 5 лет назад
I would definitely recommend going to Germany again, it's a pretty underrated country, extremely safe, beautiful cities like Dresden, Leipzig, Berlin, Wiesbaden etc and wonderful nature, for example the "Wattenmeer" at the northern beaches is one of a kind, as are the beautiful mountains and hikes in the south :) lots of great lakes too

I’m American and I really want to do a GAP year. Is it common for Americans to travel to Australia as well? Sorry this sounds like a stupid question but you guys mention that Australia has the British culture and everything which makes sense. But if I’m American would it be a big adjustment or is it an easy place to travel for all?
@zoeyadams9581

Annie Lassie I’m Canadian and am likely going there too! I think it’s more common for them but I still know quite a few Canadians/Americans that do!!

Why would you start in Sydney rather than Cairns?:)
@onelih5526
@onelih5526 4 года назад
Because Sydney is a bigger airport. To get to cairns you have to go to Brisbane and then get a seperate flight to cairns. Flights are really expensive and it’s takes like 14 years to flight to Australia with a few layovers as well. So it’s just more convenient to go to Sydney first

Okay so I have a question: what exactly is the definition of a gap life? Does it end? Lol. How about this: is it possible to have a family and children with a gap life? Or is that just the Wild Thornberrys?
@graciek3557
@graciek3557 6 лет назад
i'd assume gaps are what people typically do between graduating high school and going to college/university :`)
@Adventure.Ed.EcoFit
@Adventure.Ed.EcoFit 6 лет назад
Gracie Kimbrell right but does a gap LIFE mean you just don't go back to school and travel indefinitely?
@BackpackingBananas
@BackpackingBananas 6 лет назад
Hahaha a Gap Life is where a person takes a Gap Year and but keeps putting off university or a career year upon year until before you know it, you’re living a Gap Life - definition by me.

I've basically been living gap life for the last 9 years. Well, sort of. I've lived abroad during that time, changing my country of residence regularly, but was mostly either in uni or a career job. If you want to do this in to long run I don't think it's possible to have a family. Even being in a long term relationship is very difficult. There's pros and cons to it

I'm on a gap year, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do so I just decided to get a job and wait to apply to uni. Now I just work in a restaurant/pub. I had very little work experience and confidence, now after seeing hundreds of customers I'm almost extroverted, it's been a complete transformation for me. I love my job even tho it's basic and I love my co-workers they're hilarious. However I do feel like I'm drifting and not pursuing travelling like I want to- it's Dec now and I have a £1000 saved up, I make a low salary of £600 a month. My uncle lives in Australia (Sydney) and I really would like to go there- with all of this info (sorry for super long comment) what would people do to make the most of the gap year???? I'd love if people gave me some advice. Also I've never been on a plane, my travel experience is really limited but I'm not naive and my wanderlust is huge....

I noticed mollie always talks about how when there are a lot of Europeans it’s more comfortable.. I really don’t get it it seems abit ignorant and borderline racist.
@onelih5526
@onelih5526 4 года назад
I thinks it just more that she’s from Europe so she’s very comfortable with European people and they speak English as well so it’s easier for her to communicate and make friends. She also might be referring to all western people as European so that would include pretty much everyone who lives in a western country which isn’t just white people.
