@MikeJones-xw3te
@MikeJones-xw3te Год назад
I'm just a bit confused with the set up now. When I joined in 1972, you mentioned to the recruiting Sgt what they, corps etc you wanted to join. Testing was done, depending on results you were informed what you could join. I was offered RE's, so took that over RA, Inf etc. Thinking about it, I wish joined the Cheshire or Kings Regt's My family all have service in Grenadier and Irish Guards, RA and RHA, Manchester Regt. I did try a transfer to the RGJ, about 1974, but was informed, being in a senior corps or Regt, as per the Army's Order of Battle, you couldn't transfer down. You would either serve you enlisted period or purchase release, then rejoin as a recruit into whoever you wanted to.
@Stanly-Stud
@Stanly-Stud 2 месяца назад
Some of the Recruiting Sgt's screwed you over. An Argyll Sgt said to me have you thought about the local Regt, the Argylls. I said no I don't want to join the infantry & he got pear shaped. I ended up in the RA & I remember at my final interview with an Officer in Redford Bks Edinburgh he said, oh, you've high marks for the RA. He said I can put you back in the system again but I said no I will go & I got my warrant etc for Woolwich RA Depot. Also the Argyll Sgt said to me I would be a Signaler in the RA...nope he put me down as Gunner Weapons, Gun Bunny 😂

Keep getting out on those runs!!!! The bleep tests too!!! Keep at them, atleast twice a week. I've been deferred so I need to wait until may to re-apply. I'm still getting out on my runs. Once you get comfortable with the bleep test and 2k runs, extend the distance and work towards getting the same time you would with the previous distance. So with the bleep test, make it a meter longer. So you will be doing 21 metres. Or the 2k run, do 2.25k ect... Have fun training!

I was at Harrogate way back when it was the Royals Signals AAC. had a good time, loved the Signals, no Macho men trying to assert themselves, all members of the corps had a good level of intelligence, essential requirement for me, I did 12 years after college would have done my full career but it would have been at the expense of my marriage, I deeply regretted leaving the army, it’s like leaving your family.

I've started my application very early my GCSE exams are in june and obviously plan on going to harrogate and then join the infantry but I'm stuck on choosing a regiment. I was wondering if the larger regiments get more opportunities than the smaller ones? I have shortlisted some regiments like the Royal irish, Grenadier guards, Rifles and parachute regiment is there any advice you can give to deciding.
@CombatReadyHQ
@CombatReadyHQ 2 года назад

@Roz-hw8of
@Roz-hw8of 2 года назад
@@CombatReadyHQ Thanks for the videos you've made they've helped me alot in choosing my path, people were trying to convince me to get a trade, I can see why thats important but I explained that the army offer courses in all subjects to infantryman to help futher their career and life after the army. I plan on taking a more specialised career as I can hopefully help some people along the way. Also the stuff you said about the selection and the path finders makes it seem a little less daunting to think about.
@willfoster2635
@willfoster2635 2 года назад
@@Roz-hw8of If you do well in your GCSE's I would recommend you try for a trade or a specialist role. Avoid catering, as you will always be busy when the rest of the regiment are sitting with their feet up!! I know, I was a military chef lol. It's really up to you. If a certain regiment appeals to you then go for it. Yes, you can do various courses whilst you are an infantryman, however you will need to wait your turn and operational considerations come first. Whether these ops are in UK or abroad, you will need to be available for them. Also, make sure you are physically and mentally fit. Make sure your running and swimming are up to scratch. Do plenty of press-ups, sit-ups, dorsal raises, squats (with and without weights), and also burpees. HIIT sessions using burpees 2 a week. Do 5 reps for a minute with 2 minutes rest in between. Boxing and judo are also good sports to get you fit. These are physically intense sports. You don't need to get into the ring or go for gradings, just the training will help you. Best of luck, Roz - I'm sure you're going to be a great soldier. And you always have Craig to give you advice. I wish I did - I would have probably made officer lol.
