Join me as I walk a complete circle around old San Juan, Puerto Rico. This total journey was less than 3 miles. On the trip, we explore historical sites including Castillo San Felipe Del Morro, and Castillo San Cristobal, the two Spanish castles that fortified this old walled city. We stop for lunch at a famous Puerto Rican cuisine restaurant, and end the tour at a rooftop rum spot.
See this beautiful city through my camera lens in 4K.

When there, leave main-land ego behind, enjoy rich culture, military service, and how resilient these US Citizens are despite no right to vote for President. Beautiful place to live. 🇵🇷🇺🇸🙏

Thank you for your visit. San Juan is certainly one of the most beautiful cities in the world (although a little under appreciated) and one of the best cruise ports.

This is so helpful and good. We were in OSJ 5 years ago for 4 days. It was not enough. We are going back in July 2024, for 10 days. Thank you

We'll be visiting in September. I've been enjoying your videos as I walk the treadmill. Thank you for your steady camera work and clear pleasant voice. It makes my time on the treadmill fly by while I learn a little about this beautiful island. What would you say about visiting between christmas and new years? Is the water warm enough to play in? Or should we expect less of a beach vacay?

Thank you so much for your amazing comment! The holidays are great on the island. The air temperature is typically in the low to mid 80s in late December, and the ocean never gets colder than 79°. The water is always warm. That being said, during winter the currents are stronger, and the waves are bigger, especially on the north coast. Escambron Beach right before you get to old San Juan, has a nice protected beach area, and is typically safer for swimming in the winter. You can see this beach on a video I have about the Marriott resort in Condado Beach (Condado Beach itself has a reputation for being dangerous in winter but Escambron is just across the bridge). Depending on the winds, and currents, you may be able to find calmer Waters near Luquillo on the East Coast, or on the West Coast. Playa Buye in Cabo Royo is notorious for having calm waters year-round. Thanks for watching! All the very best🙏

It is not the island of San Juan It is Puerto Rico, and its capital is San Juan , and you are in the area of the old city, the Old San Juan.

A tour guide from the department of tourism told me that originally the Spanish called the island San Juan, and the port Puerto Rico. I also found this online. “On November 19, 1493, during his second voyage, Christopher Columbus arrived in Puerto Rico. The indigenous Taíno culture dominated the island.[1] The Taíno called the island Borikén (Spanish Boriquen), “the land of the brave lord.” Columbus named the island San Juan Bautista in honor of Saint John the Baptist. The settlement relocated to a nearby coastal islet, named Puerto Rico (Rich Port). Sometime during the 1520s, the island took the name of Puerto Rico and the port (Puerto Rico) became San Juan.” From gsp.Yale.edu gsp.yale.edu/case-studies/colonial-genocides-project/puerto-rico#:~:text=On%20November%2019%2C%201493%2C%20during,of%20Saint%20John%20the%20Baptist.
