Just a note to the developers, one of the reasons it's not scary is because there is no actual or simulated peril. All of the "scares" are non-sequiturs. You could make it more scary if there were actual objectives and some constant peril (monster, etc) that could get you.

Yeah, I usually get scared easily and avoid horror games for the most part, and I didn't even get scared by this game. Some visuals are disturbing, but it doesn't necessarily make me want to scream. And it's because this game is just jumpscare after jumpscare, but nothing can actually hurt you, and since everything is paranormal it does in some ways wind up more comical than scary. But at the same time, Jacksepticeye said this game was just a staller, a distraction, to tide people over before the developers release the bigger game that they're taking more time on. This wasn't necessarily meant to be as scary as the other game probably, but still, I agree some changes could be made to this.

The game loses it scare factor when it just constantly throws jump scares at you. Horror that just throws jumpscare after jumpscare at you isn't really scary. You get used to it and become desensitized.

I’m a real estate agent and a couple small notes I’d like to add to the conversations in the house: 1. Themed bathrooms are far more common than one may think, and “beach” is absolutely the most common theme (I, like Ash’s grandma, live nowhere near a beach. That’s just the go-to bathroom theme). 2. That house would absolutely be advertised as a fixer-upper, or as we like to say in the descriptions the house is a “handyman’s special”. I hope anyone reading this enjoys these brief fun facts/insights :)

I feel like this game would be more successful if it actually required you to do things to avoid death in addition to just the jump scares. If you have an absolute feeling of safety and no sense of purpose its pretty hard for just a sound or visual stimuli to spook you, especially if you are expecting it.

Don't feel bad Matt, Sean aka Jacksepticeye had the same problem and died multiple times before he made it through the game and he's use to being loud as well. On a side note Mark aka Markiplier made it through the first try 🤯 and btw in Ohio the tornado sirens are ran the first Wednesday of the month at noon.

So far with Ash’s book we know that it has been changed from what it originally was, there’s three, and no chapters/“numerous”. With all of that information I’m wondering if it might be a diary/journal based story where the dates for the journal entries act as like chapters. For the numerous clue that could either reference the numbers for the dates or using the “there’s three” clue maybe it will be three different accounts of the same story. Like the same thing happening but from numerous perspectives? That’s my guess so far but I can’t wait to hear more clues!

so in game design there is something known as the 45s. 45s is the end of the average human attention span, usually in games you want to make events and stuff happen within this time frame or you risk losing the players attention and they start to become bored, in horror games you take advantage this and exceed 45s to lower the players guard, the jump scares are too frequent and there fore lose their effect. removing some of the redundant repeated jump scares may do the game wonders.

I used to play Nancy Drew games myself! There was one game I can't remember the name of but it lives in my mind. Its about Nancy staying at this hotel and I never beat it because I was too scared to go down a set of stairs that led to nowhere and had voices or whispers

I dont know how he did it (if it was an effect he did vocally , digitally, or if it was even intentional at all lol), but at some point Mat's voice took on slightly dark (almost demonic) effect and really added to the vibe of this video

It’s just a natural reaction after speaking quietly for so long, especially for someone with a deeper voice (like a man) When you whisper the vocal cords are contracted tighter so there isn’t as much vibration, and this can irritate the vocal cords and surrounding area. For most people the body has a physiological response to produce more mucus in order to ease this irritation, which is what causes the gravelly “demonic” noise in Mat’s voice. This is also why you can notice him clearing his throat more often as the video progresses. Just a little science lesson for the day :)

Don't know if it was misunderstood which end of the microphone calibration was more sensative, from the part of the calibration we were shown, I think it should have been higher than the 9% it was on when they finally started. From what I could tell, the smaller percentage end was the less sensative mic setting. I do get they were trying to whisper still throughout anyway, though I'd say they were the loudest sounding out of the people I've watched play this so far. Still, hope you enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to the full release

I think 9% is pretty average, the lower percent is harder. Maybe they turned up the volume in post or it's the theater projection still coming through

He is being quiet, they boosted the audio in editting so people like myself with hearing issues don't struggle to here them talk. If it was turning down sensitivity, Jacksepticeye was on 1% and dying from just talking. I could barely hear him and then he'd drop dead 😅

We do have a powder pink bathroom in our house, i think the idea was for every bathroom to be themed in a different color or style, but the guest bathroom is the only one we actually got there

This is only because Ash asked. I have a Japanese themed bathroom that I decorated myself. It is my favorite room in the whole house based purely on decoration. It also gave me excuses to make LEGO things to put in it, like a bonsai tree and temples.

I love Ash and Matt talking about how it's great that they get the once-a-month tornado alarm check. The town I grew up in did it every Wednesday of tornado season and most Wednesdays of the off-season.

The dev's have mentioned that they're wanting to add Lore to the game over time and more jump scares as well as take community wide suggestions of different types of scares that aren't just jump scares. They're super chill and very talkative with the community in discord!

The game is pretty good. Is it complete or is it a demo? I think as it currently stands, it would do better as a VR game where jumpscares land a little more easily because it's so immersive. Especially in a scenario like this where the players are expecting to be scared more than usual at any given time, the scares fall flat - at least for me. Personally, I also like horror games where the scares come with a little more context and reason (with the occasional cheap jumpscare) rather than just being there at random. Having more to explore and *find or do* in the locations given would also make me feel like the locations are worth exploring. The One Scream Kill is an alright mechanic, though some might find it frustrating if they scare too easily. I don't know if they currently have different modes available, but it might be a nice add-on (easy = 2 warning screams, medium = 1, hard = 0). I like the duration of the game as it is right now, but if they added plot to it, then it might be better to increase the time alotted. Of course, have a limited time to find looooore might be nice too. MatPat's tickle tickle tickle near the end was extremely morbid, but I found myself laughing at a volume that would have gotten me killed, had I been playing. 😂

Honestly, this game isn't to hard when you realize nothing can hurt you unless you make a loud noise that sets off the microphone. But with that knowledge that you can't be hurt and are basically on god mode so long as you stay quiet, the fear is lost. As for bathroom themes, we turned ours into a ocean/water world like room with seagreen foam walls using a sponge dab technique and pictures of whales and dolphins.

I think that if this game opted for more subtle ghost intereactions than the ones where the ghost is in your face, then it would be more scary. For now they dont really make an impact.

You know what also helps distract you from the horror immersion of every game you play? You dont wear headphones. And you are chatting the entire time too. Making small talk and cracking jokes. Defense mechanics against it.
